Who said this season doesnt count?? The W's & L's will still be counted in the record books and these seniors very much so think every last game counts! Urbans job is to win every game possible so thats what he's doing. Urb has a whatever it takes to win NOW attitude. I cant stand it when people say this season doesnt count. Sure we cant win a trophy at the end (besides div champs) but this is still tOSU and our fanbase expects nothing but W's on Saturdays. This season counts in the AP poll doesnt it? Were ranked 7th arent we?? Then as far as im concerned it counts! We just dont get to play "bonus" games at the end...

D1aa = qualified to coach a top 10 FBS team. Makes perfect sense. Also, what a classy addition to our board

If you play these freshman before they are ready you are doing them a disservice.  You will kill their confidence because they can't keep up with the pace of game, they may struggle and will be overly frustrated and that is going to cause more harm then good.  Playing Boren at fullback may be the best scenario for now especially after hearing of his leadership abilities and the lack thereof  on defense specifically from the linebacker position.  

I'd like you to tell Boren or any senior on this team that this season is a waste, what an ignorant thing to say.  I'd also venture to say the recruiting implications of being 10-2 to 12-0 are much more in our favor then if we played a bunch of true freshman who obviously aren't ready (Urban has also said he will play the best even if he needs to move them to different positions, wants the best on the field)and go 6-7 again or worse.

No I didn't play college ball anywhere, but I was 2-sport captain in High School. Not because I was the most athletic or had the best skills (could have played baseball in college if I wanted too), but it was because I brought a desire to win to the team, and it rubbed off on others. It's players that bring a winning attitude, a 100% relentless desire to always be the best that play at Ohio State. I hope Urban never recruits someone who says a year we can't go to a bowl is a year that means nothing.

I wasn't bashing you for saying play the younger guys, I was bashing you for saying that this season means absolutely nothing to anybody. Believe it or not, the players on this team want to go undefeated. They are playing for bragging rights and unlike you, they actually care about how the team does. Sure playing Boren may not be good for the team in the long run, but maybe if you followed the Buckeyes year round like I do (someone who cares about winning) then you would know when Urban took the job he said this year would absolutley NOT be used for the sole purpose of preparing guys for next year. He said their goal was to go undefeated, and the best guys to do that would play. Seeing as how Boren led the team in tackles, he seems to be the best guy to be in that MIKE spot for the time being.

When you give me a legitamate reason why we should listen to your strategies rather than Urban F Meyer's, I'll shut up. Go ahead I'll wait.....

It won't fix the defense, but he played better than anybody we have put at Mike thus far. I don't see why that's so hard to understand for you. We have injured players and underclassman who don't understand the playbook, so why not play your best available option who happens to be one of the best leaders on the team?

win a natty? I can buy a case of natty for 10 bucks, without Boren! (come one you set yourself up for that one)

In all serious though, if this season was not on a bowl ban, our chances of winning the title would be much better with Boren than with any of the younger guys. As I already stated, Urban is going to play this year like any other year, meaning the best guys play. If you can't handle that you are supporting the wrong team

Winning? Yes, not a chance in hell we could beat Bama with this team. Making it though? Decent chance. We have an easy enough schedule to go undefeated (possible, obviously not guaranteed) and several of the teams in front of us have tough schedules remaining. Oregon might be the only one who makes it out undefeated with Bama

It's all about how you word it, everyone here likes to argue, but as long as you keep it civil (and everyone else does the same) you can get some of the smartest Buckeye fans I've ever seen wrangled into an awesome debate.

I'm kind of half-and-half on the subject.  I think that we need to develop our young talent like Grant/Perry/Marcus/Perkins but it's obvious that Boren's "football IQ" is enough to allow him to play a better Mike than anyone.  I guess for me, I'd try to use Boren to exemplify that intelligence to hopefully educate the younger guys.  An undefeated season is always a rarity, and if Boren's our best choice to get there, I'm all for it.

@BUCK-I.8 - Yeah, but it seemed like it was okay there at the end, but his previous comments continued to be downvoted.  I don't know, anyone else kind of consider this a flaw?  Maybe it's just my opinion, but it seems like we piled on when downvoting his comments, and even if Brutus the Champ had turned the corner on his discourse, he'd have still been downvoted to oblivion.

I'm not saying that his quotes didn't merit downvoting, but I know that he recieved multiple downvotes on his comments after they'd been edited.  I've mentioned this in the past, but this is why I'm in favor of capping the maximum detriment that downvotes can cause, say perhaps anything more than ten downvotes only causes a maximum of 10 less helmet stickers lost.

I absolutely agree. I've mentioned this before on the topic of voting meta, and this is the reason that most sites have a voting cap. 

But on the other hand, it's like a zero tolerance policy. Not saying I still don't want a cap, but if this keeps happening, I would hope that it would be a deterrent for those who come on here with a goal of being disruptive. Also it isn't as if he only has one or two posts that warranted downvotes. He had a solid 5 posts that were insulting, sometimes vulgar, and overall not productive for discourse. As a poster who joined last month, that's not smart if you want to keep priveleges.

The problem is that once a commenter gets hammered with downvotes, the downvotes continue for the commenter, regardless of what they say. For that comment, starting with 'I'll shut up when...' probably did not further endear him to anyone, especially not those who had already given him a thumbs down.

On the contrary, he had established himself as a troll, so in context "I'll shut up when.." can definitely be interpreted as the stubborn assertion that he wouldn't be taking anyone's advice and being less insulting. Not saying I agree with the barrage that happened subsequently, but it's not out of left field.

well to the ppl who want to know why boren deserves to play mike.... he led the team in tackles his first game. furthermore, urban thought it was the best decision, thats enough for me. completely unrelated im glad i dont get yelled at for my punctuation tbh i dont punctuate correctly bcuz i dont care enough 2 i just want to get my point across and sometimes on my phone

He probably continued to get downvotes from people like me, who were reading the whole thread for the first time- and with the majority of his comments, I might have been thinking, c'mon man, don't be a sneering, inflammatory, self-important jerk, others have not responded to you in kind. Take that stuff to other sites cough cough -espn.com cough. And yes, I will be the old lady yelling at the kids to get off my lawn down the road.

I don't know about the caps.  I'm sure there will come a day (maybe today) when I say something really stupid and bag a bunch of downvotes, but I'd like to think that I'm not so thick that I can't see when its time to shut it down and stop the bleeding.  I think you have to work hard to get to -50.

@Hodge, I disagree. I think that comment was snide and rude and I downvoted it. He knows full well Boren can't and won't win a "natty" because he is a senior this year and the bowl ban. He was being sarcastic but very rude at the same time. I didn't downvote all his comments but those that were rude, I definitely did!

 He doesn't get that its not his difference of opinion that we are downvoting. Express your different view but if someone disagrees, don't go off all half cocked and call people delusional morons. If you have a problem with a specific comment, which seems like this mostly started with his objection to what buck I.8 said, then direct your retort to him. Don't be general because it pisses a lot of people off on here that take it as meaning towards them. Hence why we use the @ symbol.

For me the original objection was "this season doesn't count...period". Not worthy of a downvote and I don't think anyone did up to that point, just disagreed with him. Then he says this, "if your not playing for the chip...or at least a big bowl game..in the end.....it means nothing...accept it dullusional morons...". That just ramps up the whole ball of wax!

Did we ever figure out if there is a way to dig yourself out of the hole once you get to -50, since you basically can't participate in anything on the site that rewards you with stickers?

The people that run the site have control over your fate after you drop below -50. Someone suggested that it would be a ban for a few weeks and then reset.

@Hodge, Unfortunately it was too late after his 3-4 rude comments. By the time he reached "if you think boren at mike will cure anything on this horrific defense...your an idiot... 
ill be posting more now... so get use to it bub" he was already getting hammered by downvotes. It took too long to correct his errors. I don't think he deserved what he got but there were some warnings to stop before it got to that point.

Oh well, I think I am done with this. Too much time discussing the website politics and not enough time discussing our great buckeye team.

I agree, new posters may not understand the way you post the way some of us do haha. That being said, I personally find your sarcasm hilarious and you're one of my favorite poster's on this site. Hodge: the whole idea of the up/down voting system, you know is that....Deterrence is the art of producing in the mind of the newbie...the FEAR to troll. And so, because of the automated and irrevocable decision-making process which rules out human meddling, the -50 buckeyes Doomsday machine is terrifying and simple to understand... and completely credible and convincing.

Maybe if you're negative, a certain amount come off per week. Like 10 come off per week? So he would be looking at 8 weeks of no commenting, etc. Just an idea.

I think BRUTUS THE CHAMP need to check himself and pump the brakes but i dont think he should be completely banned from the site bc of one post. Just my opinion. Go Bucks!

Jason, two thoughts. Either you get somewhere between 0.5 and 1 leaf per day for every day you visit. It could feasibly be a month or two of visiting and not commenting before you could come back. Or make it an auto ban of one month anytime you hit -50. After the month-long vacation you get set at -45 or -40 and can work your way out of the hole. If you haven't learned your lesson, you will inevitibly get banned again in short order. 3 bans equals a permaban.

Since we only had three guys who could practive at LB someone needed to play the position.   

I heard another 3 weeks for Sabino - that would be after the IL game?  He does have a broken leg afterall....  And, for what it is worth, I think the younger players would have played if they had actually been practicing - only 3 total LBs were available last week before the Boren move.

WOOOW i didnt even read the policy and was able to get the jist of how the commenting is supposed to play out on 11W, be productive, and while it isnt against the rules, maybe try to comment like an adult, not a..a...i dont even know, but its bad.
