listen...this season doesn't count..period.....im sure boren is good enough to play the mike....but honestly...just let the younger guys play at LB..and keep boren at fullback/h-back. Lets get guys like marcus...d will...perry..crowell...even grant again...a shot at playing lb....sure there will be many growing pains...but let them go thru it now....and be better off next season when it really counts...boren is a cute story and all...but c'mon...the guy is like a top 3 fb in america...let him do what he does best... im not buying this whole 'oooh we need a leader at mike' bullshit...just play the younger guys there and let em rock...you only get better playing....boren wont be the reason our defense inproves anyways...its not like having boren out there will give us the chance to start shutting teams out...so does it even matter?? boren is still my dude regardless..i may take him over klein at the mike spot anyways

Which NFL team did you play for again?
EDIT: Apology issued, sarcasm downtoned.
Why don't you go ahead and tell the seniors (i.e. Zach Boren) that this season doesn't count, then get back to us about their responses.
I think you may find they see it a bit differently than you
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Who said this season doesnt count?? The W's & L's will still be counted in the record books and these seniors very much so think every last game counts! Urbans job is to win every game possible so thats what he's doing. Urb has a whatever it takes to win NOW attitude. I cant stand it when people say this season doesnt count. Sure we cant win a trophy at the end (besides div champs) but this is still tOSU and our fanbase expects nothing but W's on Saturdays. This season counts in the AP poll doesnt it? Were ranked 7th arent we?? Then as far as im concerned it counts! We just dont get to play "bonus" games at the end...
"which nfl did i play for"...pfff..i played for your momzz
actually...i played D1aa..all conference defensive back....thats more than most you lames did...and yes...this season serves no real purpose other thant preparing for next season...deal with it...going undefeated this season means sh!t....there is no title game at the end...so mite as well get the younger guys all the reps they can...
not to mention he has a better shot as a FB at the next level anyways.....we're wasting snaps playing this guy at mike..we may have potential studs sitting the bench all cuz we want to be sentimental for a SR fullback...please...he's a great fullback no dout...but let them young bloodz see the field...we can lose tomorrow and so what....nothing will change...
if your not playing for the chip...or at least a big bowl game..in the end.....it means nothing...accept it dullusional morons...
Brutus is........The People's Champ!!!!
do u really think we are the 7th best team in america???...give me a break guy -_______-
Brutus is........The People's Champ!!!!
Obviously you've never played on a team that's gone undefeated deep into a season. I can 100% guarantee you that every last member on that team will tell you this season means something.
Oh and congrats on being a D1aa corner, maybe with a better attitude you would have played D1
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
D1aa = qualified to coach a top 10 FBS team. Makes perfect sense. Also, what a classy addition to our board
I can understand the idea of letting the young guys get PT, but I'm sure the staff knows if they're truly ready or not. Plus, from my understanding, they were also dealing with some guys who were dinged up. I recall Coach Meyer saying they only had 3 guys to play LB at last Tuesday's practice, so that's when Zach Boren made the move.
While I can understand wanting to see the young guys play, you really need to communicate with civility. A vast majority of us are Buckeyes, so we all want what's best for this team.
On a side note, since Boren isn't playing FB, it sounds like Heuerman has basically taken that spot, so isn't it good that a Sophomore is now getting more quality PT? Plus, that probably also means that Vannett will get more PT. Those are good things in my book.
If you play these freshman before they are ready you are doing them a disservice. You will kill their confidence because they can't keep up with the pace of game, they may struggle and will be overly frustrated and that is going to cause more harm then good. Playing Boren at fullback may be the best scenario for now especially after hearing of his leadership abilities and the lack thereof on defense specifically from the linebacker position.
I'd like you to tell Boren or any senior on this team that this season is a waste, what an ignorant thing to say. I'd also venture to say the recruiting implications of being 10-2 to 12-0 are much more in our favor then if we played a bunch of true freshman who obviously aren't ready (Urban has also said he will play the best even if he needs to move them to different positions, wants the best on the field)and go 6-7 again or worse.
Brutus the Champ: I hate sound like a crusty 'ol grammarian, but what's the deal with your punctuation? Is that how some kids text message these days - no caps, nonstop elipses, etc.? It's hard to read. Back in my days, we had to write 100 sentences on blackboard, or else the nuns would crack our hands with a yard stick . . .
Also, how do you think the team will be better served by letting all the players "rock"? I thought that letting someone "rock out" means that, if he wants to go off on a 15 minute guitar solo (i.e., musical masturbation), f--- it! "Rock on, dude!" Isn't this defense already doing enough stupid 15 minute guitar solos as it is? I love Shazier, but when he feels like rockin', sometimes he ends up overpursuing the play and gets out of his position. I'd prefer that our defense play more like a hybrid between death metal and Spanish flamenco guitar music - i.e., rhythm meets mahem, not just 11 wannabe rockstars freelancing on their own.

Hey, 11W staff, we really need the ability to downvote forum/blog posts (not just the comments) so folks don't waste their time on stuff like this...
at triv... oooh im sorry where did you play ball at??
at buck-i.8....you call me classless yet you mocked me because my view on who should play mike is different..im entitled to my oppinion...if you don't like it...eat a........
at bassplayer...point taken..i like those 2 TE's..i hear you on that..i just think boren at mike wont save this D..so you might as well play the younger guys
you know whats funny about some of you clowns here on this board...2 months ago...when storm klein came back people were saying "why is this guy starting..why not keep playing grant..or give the other younger guys a shot..this is a wasted move (mind you, storm was actually a starter last season)"..ok fine......now, fast foward to today...we have a guy who hasnt play lb since high school....who is an excellent fb...and i say lets play the other guys instead...and everyone wants to throw me under the bus...
when you give me a legitement reason why playing boren in his last season at mike benefits us in the long run....i'll shut up.... go head i'll wait.....................
Brutus is........The People's Champ!!!!
Seems to me that the coaches have a pretty good grasp of which players are the best 22 to have on the field for the majority of the snaps. Playing that group gives the team the best chance of winning. Pretty sure winning football games benefits OSU in the long run. Tell us how winning football games does not benefit OSU in the long run........go ahead we'll wait..........
vacuuming sucks
Please tell Coach Meyer the season doesn't matter... he seems to not understand...
Maybe you have not read all the info the 11W staff has offered on this.
1. Last week before they moved Zach there were only 3 (three!) linebackers actually practicing because of injuries and such. That alone is enough to consider somebody else to play LB.
2. A FB type just does not get a lot of carries in this offense. Not saying he could not assume a TB position, but at the rate the D has been playing you really need to have your best TB carrying the 'rock' so that our offense can outscore their offense.
3. Should the staff follow this type of suggestion and 'give up' on this year by just playing the young Bucks the defense would most likely be worse than it is right now. Given the number of people on this site alone calling for Fickel's head that would be a questionable move for many fans.
4. The only thing this team has to play for is an undefeated season. No B1G championship game, no bowls, NADA! The seniors on this team have done nothing to deserve this. The only thing they have to look forward to is an a win over TSUN and an unblemished season.
5. Zach himself was more than OK with this move. He wants to help the team in anyway possible, and if that means playing LB, he is OK with that. We should be too.
Those should be legitimate reasons for you.
No I didn't play college ball anywhere, but I was 2-sport captain in High School. Not because I was the most athletic or had the best skills (could have played baseball in college if I wanted too), but it was because I brought a desire to win to the team, and it rubbed off on others. It's players that bring a winning attitude, a 100% relentless desire to always be the best that play at Ohio State. I hope Urban never recruits someone who says a year we can't go to a bowl is a year that means nothing.
I wasn't bashing you for saying play the younger guys, I was bashing you for saying that this season means absolutely nothing to anybody. Believe it or not, the players on this team want to go undefeated. They are playing for bragging rights and unlike you, they actually care about how the team does. Sure playing Boren may not be good for the team in the long run, but maybe if you followed the Buckeyes year round like I do (someone who cares about winning) then you would know when Urban took the job he said this year would absolutley NOT be used for the sole purpose of preparing guys for next year. He said their goal was to go undefeated, and the best guys to do that would play. Seeing as how Boren led the team in tackles, he seems to be the best guy to be in that MIKE spot for the time being.
When you give me a legitamate reason why we should listen to your strategies rather than Urban F Meyer's, I'll shut up. Go ahead I'll wait.....

if you think boren at mike will cure anything on this horrific defense...your an idiot...
ill be posting more now... so get use to it bub
boren is my dude... i just dont see a point playing him at mike at this point...just my oppinion
(chip is BX slang for championship)
Brutus is........The People's Champ!!!!
It won't fix the defense, but he played better than anybody we have put at Mike thus far. I don't see why that's so hard to understand for you. We have injured players and underclassman who don't understand the playbook, so why not play your best available option who happens to be one of the best leaders on the team?
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
ill shut up when we win a natty with zach boren at mike........

You're is short for you are, and thanks for clarifying that the slang term is Chip and not Ship. I had heard Ship used in the past and wanted clarification. Clearly you are my go-to-guy for slang education.
vacuuming sucks
win a natty? I can buy a case of natty for 10 bucks, without Boren! (come one you set yourself up for that one)
In all serious though, if this season was not on a bowl ban, our chances of winning the title would be much better with Boren than with any of the younger guys. As I already stated, Urban is going to play this year like any other year, meaning the best guys play. If you can't handle that you are supporting the wrong team
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
in all seriousness, if this season was not a bowl ban our chance at winning a National title would still be slim to none

Winning? Yes, not a chance in hell we could beat Bama with this team. Making it though? Decent chance. We have an easy enough schedule to go undefeated (possible, obviously not guaranteed) and several of the teams in front of us have tough schedules remaining. Oregon might be the only one who makes it out undefeated with Bama

Something tells me Champ doesn't get it! Meanwhile he has no idea he is getting railed with downvotes because he can't see them. Not that he (or is it she? who knows) probably cares much.
I remember earlier this year when Boren "rocked" at FB. I think he fumbled at least once right? Of all things this team needs is not another ball carrier, seem to be doing fine in that department so far.
This season doesn't count? Tell that to the teams OSU is beating! Seems to count for them not to mention Urban's win/loss record for his career.
Plus I remember Perry and Camren on the field during the Nebraska game. Didn't play last week because they were injured. Maybe instead of moving Boren to LB OSU should have picked a guy off the streets to start instead. Any D1aa guys on here available?
Brutus, you may want to tone it down. It's fine to share your opinion, but dont be a jerk about it. If you have questions as to what is appropriate to post, please refer to the commenting policy.

@HAIL - Right now his total helmet sticker count is -42...
@BRUTUS THE CHAMP - You should probably stop if you want to keep posting here. I see the point that you're trying to make, but you don't need to be a jerk to get it across. Go Bucks!
...i can comply with your request hodge since you asked politely... very well.... i just think its pretty shitty how expressing a different view is not accepted here and is attacked and bashed... but im the bad guy of course
side note...your profile pic comes from what movie??
Brutus is........The People's Champ!!!!
I feel dumber after reading BRUTUS THE CHAMPS post. Saying this season doesn't mean anything is utterly absurd.
@BRUTUS THE CHAMP - Profile pic is the titular character from Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Great movie, '60s black comedy about nuclear war.
It's all about how you word it, everyone here likes to argue, but as long as you keep it civil (and everyone else does the same) you can get some of the smartest Buckeye fans I've ever seen wrangled into an awesome debate.
I'm kind of half-and-half on the subject. I think that we need to develop our young talent like Grant/Perry/Marcus/Perkins but it's obvious that Boren's "football IQ" is enough to allow him to play a better Mike than anyone. I guess for me, I'd try to use Boren to exemplify that intelligence to hopefully educate the younger guys. An undefeated season is always a rarity, and if Boren's our best choice to get there, I'm all for it.

Or "accept it delusional morons"
I'd like to think I am a very lusional moron thank you very much!
Looks like he took it a few comments too far. #banhammer
@BUCK-I.8 - Yeah, but it seemed like it was okay there at the end, but his previous comments continued to be downvoted. I don't know, anyone else kind of consider this a flaw? Maybe it's just my opinion, but it seems like we piled on when downvoting his comments, and even if Brutus the Champ had turned the corner on his discourse, he'd have still been downvoted to oblivion.
I'm not saying that his quotes didn't merit downvoting, but I know that he recieved multiple downvotes on his comments after they'd been edited. I've mentioned this in the past, but this is why I'm in favor of capping the maximum detriment that downvotes can cause, say perhaps anything more than ten downvotes only causes a maximum of 10 less helmet stickers lost.
Kudos to Hodge/Nappy for trying to show Brutus the error in his ways and spare him the banhammer. In re-reading his apology, I'm not convinced it was genuine, so maybe this is an example of how the new system works and can be a cautionary tale for others (I'm talking to you, Waffles).
I absolutely agree. I've mentioned this before on the topic of voting meta, and this is the reason that most sites have a voting cap.
But on the other hand, it's like a zero tolerance policy. Not saying I still don't want a cap, but if this keeps happening, I would hope that it would be a deterrent for those who come on here with a goal of being disruptive. Also it isn't as if he only has one or two posts that warranted downvotes. He had a solid 5 posts that were insulting, sometimes vulgar, and overall not productive for discourse. As a poster who joined last month, that's not smart if you want to keep priveleges.
@BUCK-I.8 - I understand that, but how does a comment like this merit 13 downvotes?
I can understand not upvoting it, but that was in no way attacking anyone. It's an opinion.
The problem is that once a commenter gets hammered with downvotes, the downvotes continue for the commenter, regardless of what they say. For that comment, starting with 'I'll shut up when...' probably did not further endear him to anyone, especially not those who had already given him a thumbs down.
@TENN - Exactly. It might not have further endeared him to the commentariat, but I still don't think that merits downvoting. Again, just my opinion.
On the contrary, he had established himself as a troll, so in context "I'll shut up when.." can definitely be interpreted as the stubborn assertion that he wouldn't be taking anyone's advice and being less insulting. Not saying I agree with the barrage that happened subsequently, but it's not out of left field.
I think each comment should have cap, as stated earlier. No upvote cap, but cap the downvotes per comment at like 5 or so
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
well to the ppl who want to know why boren deserves to play mike.... he led the team in tackles his first game. furthermore, urban thought it was the best decision, thats enough for me. completely unrelated im glad i dont get yelled at for my punctuation tbh i dont punctuate correctly bcuz i dont care enough 2 i just want to get my point across and sometimes on my phone
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
I disagree, Hodge. If someone is continuously posting ignorant comments and is failing to get a clue as to why they are being downvoted, I say downvote away. They'll either learn what is and is not acceptable or they'll lose commenting privelages.
OH, HEY LOOK! WE DISAGREED RESPECTFULLY!
See how that works?
Fan of bacon since 1981
He probably continued to get downvotes from people like me, who were reading the whole thread for the first time- and with the majority of his comments, I might have been thinking, c'mon man, don't be a sneering, inflammatory, self-important jerk, others have not responded to you in kind. Take that stuff to other sites cough cough -espn.com cough. And yes, I will be the old lady yelling at the kids to get off my lawn down the road.
Disagree to a slight extent, Nappy; but upvoted you all the same. Also, if you don't have voting privelidges, can you now see the votes? I knew it was going to be implimented, but wasn't sure if it was installed yet.
I don't know about the caps. I'm sure there will come a day (maybe today) when I say something really stupid and bag a bunch of downvotes, but I'd like to think that I'm not so thick that I can't see when its time to shut it down and stop the bleeding. I think you have to work hard to get to -50.
I think it does work well in that you have to earn the right to say something stupid. Many of us could say something ill-conceived, get downvoted 30, and have a hurt ego, but still retain priveleges.
Don't come in here in your second month and insult people. I mean, don't do it at all, but if you must, don't be surprised when you get banned
@Hodge, I disagree. I think that comment was snide and rude and I downvoted it. He knows full well Boren can't and won't win a "natty" because he is a senior this year and the bowl ban. He was being sarcastic but very rude at the same time. I didn't downvote all his comments but those that were rude, I definitely did!
He doesn't get that its not his difference of opinion that we are downvoting. Express your different view but if someone disagrees, don't go off all half cocked and call people delusional morons. If you have a problem with a specific comment, which seems like this mostly started with his objection to what buck I.8 said, then direct your retort to him. Don't be general because it pisses a lot of people off on here that take it as meaning towards them. Hence why we use the @ symbol.
For me the original objection was "this season doesn't count...period". Not worthy of a downvote and I don't think anyone did up to that point, just disagreed with him. Then he says this, "if your not playing for the chip...or at least a big bowl game..in the end.....it means nothing...accept it dullusional morons...". That just ramps up the whole ball of wax!
Its not called for!
I downvoted him as this was my 1st time reading through the thread. I don't down vote people based on whether or not I agree with what they are saying, I downvote when you come across like a jerk, which he did. Its a wonderful language we have here, this thing called English. It is a tool which allows us to say the same thing in many different ways. It is up to the user of the tool to decide whether they present their opinion in a manner that heightens the conversation or lowers it. This is a great forum and I will use the downvote tool without mercy to help keep it that way.

Did we ever figure out if there is a way to dig yourself out of the hole once you get to -50, since you basically can't participate in anything on the site that rewards you with stickers?
@SQUIRREL - I totally agree that the majority of his comments deserved to be downvoted. He was very hostile, and his original post was angry enough to define a lot of the discourse's direction. My only point was that it seemed like he was trying to get back on point and was unable to do so because his previous comments continued to be downvoted (including one that a mod had already edited, making it impossible to see what he actually wrote). I don't deny that what was said merited downvoting--and even a banhammer--I was remarking on something that I'd alluded to in the past because I felt the ability for downvotes to aggregate made it impossible for him to make amends (if he so chose).
Granted, there were plenty of missed opportunities before that, and every missed opportunity led to an exponentially higher chance of that banhammer.
For what it's worth, he PM'ed me after the ban, and said this--I felt I should share with all affected parties in the thread:
It's no one's fault but his, nor is it anyone's fault for downvoting him. I was merely trying to remark on a flaw in the downvoting system that I've noticed.
@NoBuck
I don't know but I dig your avatar. Have an upvote.

I'll take part of the blame, because he's a new poster and thus isn't used to my tone. But it comes up all the time, no one can make you do or say anything on these boards, and if you feel like someone is baiting you, be the bigger person. It's a lesson I've had to learn, as well as many others
The people that run the site have control over your fate after you drop below -50. Someone suggested that it would be a ban for a few weeks and then reset.
At -88 helmet stickers Brutus The Champ will be doing overnight janitorial duties around 11W for a while.
Thanks Nappy, I'm getting close to 50!
I thought at some point or another, you get a fraction of a sticker by logging on everyday, so in case you did get to -50, you can wait it out. Was I dreaming?
@Hodge, Unfortunately it was too late after his 3-4 rude comments. By the time he reached "if you think boren at mike will cure anything on this horrific defense...your an idiot...
ill be posting more now... so get use to it bub" he was already getting hammered by downvotes. It took too long to correct his errors. I don't think he deserved what he got but there were some warnings to stop before it got to that point.
Oh well, I think I am done with this. Too much time discussing the website politics and not enough time discussing our great buckeye team.
@doesntwork I LOVE THAT ID! Upvote for that one!
I'll drink to that, Squirrel.
Well the thing is from the beginning of the topic to almost every post he threw out there made the thread look like something off the ESPN boards. I joined this site because of how much of a fan I am of the Buckeyes and for the fact that there seemed to be alot of polite, intelligent posters on this site. The past week or so it seems like some of the wilier bunch has started to migrate over but that happens from time to time. I just hope we can get back on track to good conversation.
@Buck I.8
I agree, new posters may not understand the way you post the way some of us do haha. That being said, I personally find your sarcasm hilarious and you're one of my favorite poster's on this site. But most of those that have been here for less than a few months may find you to be a cynical d bag haha, they'll get used to it though. Sarcasm on, my friend

Hodge: the whole idea of the up/down voting system, you know is that....Deterrence is the art of producing in the mind of the newbie...the FEAR to troll. And so, because of the automated and irrevocable decision-making process which rules out human meddling, the -50 buckeyes Doomsday machine is terrifying and simple to understand... and completely credible and convincing.

When you fall below -50, you're effectively locked out of creating anything on the site. You can login, but you can't even comment. And since you have no way of gaining points without commenting or creating forums and blog posts, it's somewhat of a soft ban.
Do we need to revisit this?
Maybe if you're negative, a certain amount come off per week. Like 10 come off per week? So he would be looking at 8 weeks of no commenting, etc. Just an idea.
Jason, Perhaps you could look at this on an individual basis. You know who is -50, you can easily see their comments. Maybe an email sent to them would get their attention, or maybe you could make it possible for them to email someone to plead their case if they get the -50 ban. You have enough mods on the site that they could handle the work load. This one definately got out of hand in a hurry. I think in this case he deserved a lot of down votes. And, this is a great example of how not to endear yourself to the 11W masses. Revisiting this may be necessary, but I still like the idea of -50 cutting you off. I know I have been downvoted by someone simply disagreeing with my opinion, but that is primarily coming from one or 2 posters. Overall, the system seems to be working - however, it may need some minor tweaks.
I think BRUTUS THE CHAMP need to check himself and pump the brakes but i dont think he should be completely banned from the site bc of one post. Just my opinion. Go Bucks!
Brutus The Champ. -100 Buckeye stickers. Let's hope now the piliing on ceases.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Jason, two thoughts. Either you get somewhere between 0.5 and 1 leaf per day for every day you visit. It could feasibly be a month or two of visiting and not commenting before you could come back. Or make it an auto ban of one month anytime you hit -50. After the month-long vacation you get set at -45 or -40 and can work your way out of the hole. If you haven't learned your lesson, you will inevitibly get banned again in short order. 3 bans equals a permaban.

@BUCKEYENEER - That's a fantastic idea.
Since we only had three guys who could practive at LB someone needed to play the position.
@BUCKEYEEER - that's what i thought we already had in the first place, but anyway, i think it's a great idea and to build on it, i would recommend only to give out leaves when you are below 0. reason for that is to encourage at least a certain quantity of quality comments until you get the privilege to vote.
Back to the actual topic, i'm in the camp to play our freshmen LBs just to get them some experience. If Sabino's recovery is on track, we won't need Boren to play LB anymore, so basically we wasted opportunity to develop our younger LBs
I heard another 3 weeks for Sabino - that would be after the IL game? He does have a broken leg afterall.... And, for what it is worth, I think the younger players would have played if they had actually been practicing - only 3 total LBs were available last week before the Boren move.
