Rivals has a couple premium articles posted about a JUCO LB who says OSU is #1. There is also something in the Skull Session that mentions a new LB target. Does anyone have a premium subscription to Rivals that can shed some light on this? Thanks.

Sorry, no Rivals access, but Alex posted that JUCO LB Auston Johnson would be visiting for THE GAME.
Just posted in the other thread that this makes a lot of sense. Urban is going to want a LB who is mature enough to step in and challenge for a spot immediately.
Johnson plays for a JUCO in California. His only offer at this point is from Texas A&M. He will have 2 seasons of eligibility.
Yea, didn't Illinois do the same thing, get a bunch of JuCo players in to help with leadership (correct me if I am wrong)? I like the move, especially if it is for that purpose. Nice to see some moves being made like this.
I totally agree with this move. Inject some maturity and leadership into the LB core to spark the defense.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
This would be a good move assuming he's a quality player. We'll see how this unfolds.
Dubjay, using Illinois as an example probably isn't helping your case. ;-p
Many highly successful coaches use Juco players to help their teams. Nick Saban and Bill Snyder immediately spring to mind. Terrence Cody and others have helped Saban's Alabama teams win national titles, while Michael Bishop and Daniel Thomas, among others, have helped Bill Snyder take Kansas State places they have no real business being. And of course, you have Cam Newton as the most recent example of a high quality player coming out of the Juco ranks. Jucos can really help a program, if you can find the right players and right fit for them. Overuse of Juco recruiting can lead to problems, but I know Urban won't head down that path. If Johnson can come in and play at a high level immediately, this would be an outstanding pick up. Still hoping that Mitchell comes on board, though. HS recruits generally are more successful because of the time they spend in the program.
Who was the last JUCO LB we had? Larry Grant? That worked very well. Sign him up.
schlegel was awesome as well but i think he transferred from like navy or something?
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Sir Rick, I think it was Air Force.
Larry Grant worked out well.
Was Mark Johnson a JUCO LB? He didn't work out so well...
Looks like Luke Fickell is heading his recruitment. Also recieved a call from Urban and said after that phone call OSU was number one on his list. He played D-Line in high school before converting to Linebacker at El Camino CC. He has recieved intrest from Oregon, Minn, Kent, Kansas and AZ state. His dad was a Hall of Fame Linebacker in the CFL. Alondra Johnson

He has the build and the speed. Reminds a little of Brian Rolle except taller. Rolle could play.
Really like the idea of this. 2013 class I assume, hopefully it will provide the leadership and push we need for the underclassmen. Any other LB JUCO's out there that are high on the talent radar?
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
Yeah just read this Johnson guy is visiting in Nov. and will most likely commit on the spot if offered a scholarship.
Auston Johnson
Thanks for the video NYBUCKEYE.
He's got good size and speed and he can tackle inside and in space, it sure can't hurt.

I think jucos are particularly good for us because they give us immediate depth and will only be there for a year or two which will help us in our time of scholarship restrictions. To me its a win win

Great speed and strength. Plays down hill and has great vision. Definitely needs to work on lowering his pad level and his pursuit angles.
Auston could be our starting Mike LB next year...lord knows OSU needs him.

Auston's experience will certainly help, but there are kids like Curtis Grant and Cam Williams who have more time to develop for next season. There should be some solid competition for MIKE next year.
Looks like he wraps up his tackles, not trying to make the highlight hit
This makes a lot of sense. At this point we've got Shazier and a whole bunch of question marks at LB next year. If you go out and find another high school linebacekr at this point its unlikely that he's going to be ready to play at a high level next year. We need LBs who are college ready now. If Auston Johnson is that guy then lets sign him up.
I'd say try to sign him and Mitchell. TOSU will need maturity at the LB position while you develop the young guns. I really hope Grant gets it this offseason.
