I don't normally watch the NBA, but I will during the playoffs, and especially if a Buckeye is playing.
Having said that, I watched the Memphis Grizzlies/LA Clippers game, and just thought Mike Conley was thoroughly impressive...again. Conley is so underrated compared to other elite NBA players.
The guy just just doesn't seem to get enough credit. He carried his team on his back the past few weeks of the season. He is all around great player, and elite point guard. He makes a ton of plays, is excellent on the pick & roll, and is always at the top of the league in steals.
Last night he had 28 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.
I think one of the reasons he doesn't get a lot of respect is he's just not real flashy. You won't see a ton of alley-oops and slam dunks, highlight reel plays. Conley is more the type of guy to completely smoke somebody off the dribble with his quickness, then use his body control to lay it in.
Those are the two things that stuck out to me last night, and have always stuck out to me, since watching him in the Scarley & Gray. Mike Conley is unbelievably quick & has ridiculous body control.
Conley is fast, maybe not the fastest. He is not the biggest, not the strongest. He is a good shooter, but not a great shooter. But, I don't think there's another basketball player on planet Earth that has the combination of quickness & body control Conley possesses. He's fun to watch. Best of luck to him.
