One of the most prolific scorers in Ohio State basketball history passed away on Monday.

1972-73 team captain and three-time first-team All-Big Ten performer Allan Hornyak died at 74.

Hornyak emerged as a local legend at St. John's Central High School in Bellaire, Ohio, before ever taking the floor at Ohio State. He earned the nickname "Bellaire Bomber" for scoring more than 40 points per game as both a junior and senior. He scored 86 points in a single high school game in 1969.

The "Bellaire Bomber" nickname followed him throughout his three-year career with the Buckeyes, where he scored 1,572 points. That mark still ranks 13th in program history. On top of being named first-team All-Big Ten each of his campaigns, he earned third-team All-American honors in 1972 and 1973 with second-team All-American recognition in 1972.

Hornyak was drafted in the second round of the 1973 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but never played basketball professionally. He was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.

Hornyak is survived by his wife, Diane Hornyak, two daughters and four grandchildren.
