With the conference championship thread bleeding into the offseason and officially topping 300 posts, I felt like it was time to start a new one.

For a supposedly cap strapped team, the Cavs appear in all the rumors right now and this young offseason has not lacked intrigue. We traded back in the draft and landed a young, athletic, guard with a sweet stroke but wild tendencies, while also adding a future pick.

With free agency officially opening, the roster seems destined for a shake up. The only question is how large will that shake up be? We’ve already seen Ellis depart for the Nets on a two year, $18M deal, and he won’t be the last guard to go. Schroeder seems as good as gone the moment we find a suitor, and Strus will likely not be far behind. There haven’t been any rumors about Merrill yet, but I’d expect to see two of those three gone over the next week or so. It seems the Cavs are very serious about bringing Wade back to man the backup forward position, but I wonder if he’ll wait long enough to let other dominos fall into place first.

The obvious elephant in the room is how far will we go to try and lure LeBron back? He will reportedly hold meetings with his “team” this week, back home in Akron, and it seems likely the Cavs will be the first team that gets to shoot their shot with him. As I said in the last thread, it seems like an outcome that makes too much sense for everyone involved for it to actually happen, but the smoke of a return has only grown over the past several hours, even culminating with Windy speculating the Cavs may move to trade for Brown in an attempt to make the roster even more attractive.

I have no idea how likely that is, but it’s fun to speculate about nonetheless. In addition to LeBron, we’ve resigned Thomas Bryant and have been rumored as a suitor for Johnathan Kuminga. Whatever happens, buckle up, it seems like the next few days could range anywhere from thoroughly dull, to absolutely wild.

Let the speculation begin!
