Jalen Hurd has had tOSU as his leader for some time, but it is being rumored that Ohio State's lead has increased to the point that he is now a being considered a "near lock".
Saw on 11W's..According to today'$ Boarding House via Bucknuts, Jalen Hurd is a near-lock to be a Buckeye. --- Great news if true.

From this paid 247Sports article it looks like he's going to graduate in December and announce by then(if not earlier), but I don't subscribe so I'm basing that on the free teaser they give: Long wait for 5-star 2014 RB?
“Ohio State is my leader, followed by Florida,” Hurd said in this (free) article: Gators, Buckeyes Battle for 2014 RB 10/7/12
Jalen visited Ohio State for The Game. Here is an article (paid) on that visit: RB Loves It At Ohio State

Interview last fall about his junior season and his top three: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8399953
2012 Highlights:
Jalen Hurd broke three records in Beech's 56-35 win over Columbia Central in the 2012 Class 5A Championship. Most rushing yards in a state final (394), touchdowns in a state final (7), and single-season rushing yards (3,357):
Hurd talks about winning the Class AAA Mr. Football award:

I would love for this kid too be part of 14 class he would do wanders in this offense. Very versatile could play RB or WR do you know who his recruiter is?
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
Urban, please put this kid in my shopping cart! Wow he is goood!!

Hurd is planning on graduating early: Long wait for 5-star 2014 RB?, however, he isn't the only one. A few of the Geogia Gang are too with at least Nick Glass, Reakwon McMillan, Demarre Kitt and Deshaun Watson:
Hmm.. weird all those mentioned have OSU interest!
+1 It is weird, huh?!
Clemson too :-(

Hey, enrolling early means I don't have to wait til signing day! Double win!
+1 I like that his recruitment won't be drawn out nearly as long as it could, and likely, would have if he wasn't graduating early.
He's my 3rd most wanted recruit behind Jabril Peppers, and Marshon Lattimore.
How does that warrant a downvote. lol
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Wow is this kid good! The performance in the championship game was incredible.
I wonder if he commits in June when he camps... Kid is a stud and lit it up here in TN this year.
+1 I hope so! I know he is going to be at the Tennessee Jr. day tomorrow with Nick Chubb, Todd Kelly Jr., Cortez McDowell, and many more. If he does graduate in December and enroll early I hope he would commit to tOSU in June and help recruit or at least be a silent.
Reminds me of Robert Smith.
You nailed it. He looks like #26 to me.

Trotwood-Madison. Once a Ram, Always a Ram.
Great video GB. There's also the entire semifinal game, where Hurd runs for 60+ yards the first play from scrimage. Found that one after the championship game highlights.
Warning: Ohio buckeye is highly toxic when taken internally.
+1 Nice fine AESCULUS.! Here it is. The play you are taking about is at the 25 minute mark.
I love his acceleration, it's devastating.

Not sure why the play at the 25min mark is that impressive. He runs C gap, the fullback makes a solid block, and there is absolutely no contain backside. Again, another play where no one lays a single hand on him until he gets run out of bounds. Try watching his highlight tape and just focus on his FB. That kid is one tough SOB.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
+1 I agree with the FB being a beast! I think the play at the 25 min mark is partially impressive because he rips off a big run on Beech's frist offensive play. It also looks like the guy the FB was blocking gets a hand on Hurd and almost makes a leg/shoe string tackle, but Hurd maintains balance and speed and gains a lot more yardage. (I'm not sure why Aesculus. would get downvoted for finding this video and pointing out a good run from Hurd.) His most impressive run to me in this game is probably at the 1:55:00 mark. Check that one out, if you haven't already.
Hurd actually doesn't run it much in the first half of that game but he runs it every play until he scores starting about the 1:42:40 mark. At the 2:02:20 mark Hurd rips off another big run and then the next play the FB gets handed off to. Hurd scores and then Beech fakes an extra point and converts the two point play. There is a drive that starts at about the 2:47:00 mark that has a bunch of Hurd runs and a big run by the FB. There are more runs if you watch the whole game; I just tried to highlight some of the better runs/drives.
Made me reminisce of the one and only Eddie George
Anybody else feeling spoiled? With Urban it truly seems anyone is a possibility. Midwest, South, Mars. I heard we are in Mars Blackmon's top 3. Crazy!

Indeed, Sir. Urban's your huckleberry.

Just watched his film for the first time. Wow. Soon as he gets the ball, he's thinking HOUSE.
Wow!!! Looks like Eddie George and Eric Dickerson had a kid 18 years ago.
I know it's against high school competition but he does look like a shiftier and significantly faster Eddie George. Don't know if he has similar power because he seems so good at avoiding tacklers.
D. Anthony
I also have to give Jalen's fullback (#41) some props. He's fun to watch.

would love to get this kid on board. 10.59 ypc is huge.what's he do his sr. year 12.5.
if we land him i'd gladly close out RB.hope he stays healthy next year and runs his ass forrest gump style to the OSU in time to enroll early.

10.59?????? That's unreal.
Sweet lord! I've heard about him, but hadn't seen that tape yet...He good - he REAL GOOD!!

runs strong, reminds me of #13
I'm amazed at how many of those runs he wasn't touched. Then when there was a bunch of contact and it appeared he wouldn't do much he'd break off a huge run. Kid looks great.
Hard to call anyone an OSU "near lock" this early in the recruiting game especially if they're not committed. Many people thought Derrick Green was an OSU lock this time last year.
Best film I've watched out of Urban recruits... I dunno if he is best player by any means, but my god he's strong, fast, breaks tackles like crazy, separates amazingly well... Landing this guy would juice up the play maker needs so much. It is scary the team that is being built in Columbus, and even scarier the team potential in the future recruits. Just wow.
Brady Hoke has been hospitalized... found mumbling Jalin, Jalen, Jalin, Jalen, Jalin, Jalen, Jalin, Jalen, Jalin.......

For both playes being 5* guys Jalen looks a lot better than Derrick Green. Like a whole other level. I'm not being a homer on this either.
Our honor Defend!
Angry me and the GF watched this video, then we watched Rivals #1 RB(5*) and D.Green tape from last year as well... We are ENTIRELY baffled as to how either of those get the 5* and Hurd doesn't. Just genuinely were baffled watching the video. I'd take Hurd over those two and wouldn't think twice. The way he runs just looks hungry and wanting to make an impact. When I think playmaker, this guy embodies what I think of.
They havent expanded the 5* yet for rivals they usually get to 25-30 5* by the end of the year. Still really early but they did drop Raekwon from 5* status bc hes not physical enough which is beyond a joke IMO.
Understand, just seems like this current tape/body of work is far more impressive to me and my GF than Derrick Green's footage was. Like out of D.Green, the #1 5* RB this year, and Hurd, I take Hurd and it isn't even close to me. Maybe it is because I feel like Hurd seems to have more interest in making an impact on a huge scale. Of course, he also has a good Oline and FB from looks of it, but still. Seemed like other two when touched gave up on a play and just would try and power through and likely end run, when Hurd drew contact he was approaching it a lot like "I'm not done here, let's get more yards." Just better finishing and I feel like it led to more potential, and he still has a year to grow.
Congratulations to your girlfriend! She has been officially nominated for girlfriend of the year!
Good lord, can you just imagine the inane comments (what some would call "butthurt") to come from Tennessee fans if we land another highly-touted recruit from the Volunteer State? (Even if they haven't ever been mentioned as in the hunt for his services...)
They better start lubing up now.
If we get Hurd does that close the door on recruiting RB's for this year? With the depth that we have and limited schollies I would think so.
I'm prepared to take a few downvotes for this, but I honestly see him as a WR in college. He's incredibly elusive and fast, but you don't see him break many tackles. Partly because he's so damn fast. I just wonder how a 6'3'' RB will fare running between the tackles next level. My guess is he's playing RB because his coach wants a ton of touches from his best player. If you watch the team outside of him you'll notice the QB is pretty shaky as a passer, which may be why he is at RB. This is JMO, he's incredibly talented and I'd love for him to be a Buckeye.
IMO Joe Mixon is the best pure RB prospect in this class, but this kid is very impressive.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
I think one of the reasons were in the lead is because we would use him at running back I saw a thing cant remember where a while back about how he didnt like bama as much because they wouldnt use him as a running back. I think he prefers it. Dont know how big a deal it is but...
About the 6'3" Rb comment Rod Smith is the same height and he looks damn good running between the tackles he just need to cut down on his fumbles.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
he's an absolute freak athlete that could play any position and I think that's why he likes Meyer bc we use RBs in multiple ways and vice versa for WRs. He may be 6'3 but so was Eddie and he turned out pretty damn good. If getting him on the field first is at WR that's fine but he's definitely a beast RB at any level.
I see what you're saying here. I may be off, but this kind of player is what seems to fit the Percy Harvin thing everyone talks about. Really can just put him in key positions, get the ball in his hands somehow, and watch what he does. I don't care where he plays positionally, I just wanna see him in S&G.
Are we watching the same video? I saw him break through plenty of tackles and what he does so well is read is blocks, shuffle through the contact at the line of scrimmage, and barely loose any speed at all. I can definitely see him being used as a hybrid type player but that is because he could create insane matchups, like a better version of Aaron Hernandez.
I agree with the latter part of you comment. I guess I'm being too critical. It just seems like to me many of his highlight runs are due to the defense being totally out of position, or his fullback destroys someone, he makes one cut then its a footrace. When I watch his tape, then watch the other top RB's like Joe Mixon, I come away thinking that this kid is an amazing athlete playing out of position because of team needs. I also feel watching his tape that some of the defenses he faces are pretty undiciplined and often take themselves out of the play.
As far as a comparison, your point of a Hernandez type is spot on IMO. He would be a linebackers nightmare. He could be used in so many ways in this offense. TE/slot reverses, screen game, I could go on. I'm just trying to give an objective opinion, I knew some would disagree, but its all good. Thats why we have 11W, I enjoy another fans perspective.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Its no wonder he's got all of those yards. Seems like every play he's taking it to the house. His O-line looks pretty good, but he hits that first hole incredibly quick and without hesitation. I've seen some plays where he's spread out as a receiver. I wonder how he does catching the ball out of the backfield.
I can't remember the last time there wasn't a log jam at RB. This kid will go a long way in perpetuating that awesome problem to have.
Time and change will surely show how firm they friendship... O-HI-O.
Man he hits that hole faster than the blink of an eye!
By 2014 were looking at Rod Smith, Bri'Onte Dunn, Warren Ball, Ezekiel Elliott. Not too much of a logjam for a true freshman with his size and skillz.

Jalen is at UT's Jr. Day today and is currently sitting in between coaches Jones and Graham as UT's basketball team takes on UK:
Easy Butch, I wouldn't get too happy and all touchy feely with this one!
~Naples Buckeye - "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." - General George S. Patton, Jr.
+1 Butch looks waaaaay happier then Jalen in the pic at the basketball game and he looks like a used car salesman that Jalen is trying to console in this one:
is that an alabama "A" on the hat??
Good catch +1 but I believe it's an Atlanta braves A see the picture with Todd Kelly and you can see the MLB emblem on the back of the hat
That's the Atlanta Braves. It does look similar though
selling that color must suck!
Another update from Jalen's visit to UT today: I hope he's helping recruit Todd Kelly Jr. (who visited Ohio State last weekend) to the good guys!
Think we're gonna have some work to do to get a few more like Breanna in CBus.
Or we could bring in recruits with our academics, colorful nightlife, and program prestige, rather than using girls that are about 3 steps away from prostitution.
The term is "escort" ;)
call girl*, classy lady of the evening
Are you specifically talking about that girl Breanna?

Sounds like the boy had a nice visit, good for him! Now does he want to talk about playing some football!
I challenge Urban to flip Breanna Dodd to the scarlet and grey... It's a win-win situation!
She's a model... so all it takes is a "gig" on craigslist
AHHHHHH! first the picks of hurd and kelly in UT gear....then the pick of beana. Heaven or Hell? hummm... good if they both pick OSU
Warning: Ohio buckeye is highly toxic when taken internally.
Looks like Breana's beauty, like many SEC "babes" beauty can be removed with one swipe of a wet nap.

No. Just no.
Yes. Just yes. At least Breana's case.
they have a beautiful campus with gorgous country gals---but the big stage---is up here!!!
knucklehead
While we do look to lead I don't think this one will be over anytime soon.
We need to get him to campus in the spring to gain some momentum.
I can't wait to take him from Tennessee. Landing Bell and then Hurd in back to back classes will absolutely kill their fans. They thought they were done with Meyer when he went to OSU hahaha.
Not too mention if Hurd and Kelly Jr both pick the buckeyes could possibly have a case of mass suicide through out vol nation. And josh Malone opts for an out of state school in the $ec lmao I could see it know vols insiders putting it out on NSD eve that the vols landed all three and they end signing with other schools that meltdown would be epic.
When someone shows you who they are believe them! In other words piss a good friend off and see what they really think about you.
Update: Hurd to visit tOSU next!
If we get the class we should for 2014 it would have to be the best back-to-back classes we've had since woody's era, maybe ever. Ive had a good feeling on hurd and this just confirms it. Hurds an absolute freak and would be a great asset.I also found that nick glass tweet interesting. I find it hard to believe that Meyer would hold on so long to only offering watson if he didn't have a very good reason. He's by far the best qb his #s are unreal and doing it in Georgia's no small task. These guys want rings for every finger and hopefully they realize come together at tOSU and Meyer will make it happen. Never thought could get better than Tressel but it might meyer won't be losing those 2 NC games when we make it the next times.
2015 could be enormous given that we will get 3 scholarships back and we have a ton of juniors to be on the roster. I hope some of them have break out years this year and go pro just so we can even out the classes by taking more guys this year.
And I hope they break curfew and miss the Appy State and Youngstown State games, so they DON'T leave early
Haha, obviously I love the guys we have, but the long term health of our team would definitely be helped by having more even classes, also we are high on the list of so many 2014 guys that we just won't have enough room for all the guys we would want.
I got you bud.
But remember what your grandpa told you about the bird in the hand being worth 2 in the bush
Nick Saban has perfected the idea that 1 in the hand is worth less than 3 in the bush. #oversigning
Holy cow, that's one talented running back. The player I thought of while watching his highlights was OJ Simpson. Very similar running styles. Great balance, vision and speed. And enough strength to easily dispatch the ankle biters.
The poster above who suggested wide receiver is flat crazy. You don't need to break many tackles if you're that good at getting to open space, but you need to watch those highlights again. There was plenty of running right through arm tacklers who just couldn't hit him straight on.
Actually they don't get the scholarships back until 2016. It was a 3 year probation with scholarship reductions for 3 years, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
The probation started in 2012 and is for 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years. That means by the 2015 season, and by the time most of the recruits enroll that year, the probation will be have ended and the scholarships will be back to the full 85 count instead of the current 82 scholarship limit.
It was a 3 year probation with scholarship reductions for 3 years and started last year, 2012, 2013 and 2014
He means the 2015 recruiting class. That class won't have restrictions on it because we applied the restrictions to our 2012, 13, and 14 classes.
Gray Box,
Thank you for mentioning my tweet. While i'm definitely not an insider, I do have share the passion for all things that have to do with Ohio State. It's very intriguing following which young men they might land next in their pursuit of the crystal ball.
+1 Thank you for sharing, insider or not, it was some good info!
SICK,SICK,AND SICK! I love how Jalen looks like he doesn't just run to the endzone, he runs THROUGH it. I want to see him gain about 20lb of lean muscle while maintaining that sub 4.4 speed. Cant wait to see what the Buckeye coaching staff turns him into.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
I know that RB is not a huge area of need (or even a small one for that matter) but, I really want this kid in Scarlett and Grey come Saturday's.
Thanks to whomever downvoted me. Won't take away from my passion for OSU athletics, but will only motivate me to provide any info i come across. Whether it may be something that is common knowledge or not doesn't mean everyone will see it. It's rather silly how childish people are.
there's always going to be silent downvoters on a website with this may visitors. The best thing to do is just ignore them and move on with your life, as it's not like the number of helmet stickers we have defines us as a person.
Also, one thing I've noticed is that complaining about downvotes often leads to more downvotes, it's best to just leave the topic alone
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
The more you comment about downvoting, the more people will downvote you. Don't get upset over pixels, if it really bothers you that much, you should reconsider posting on the internet. They literally mean nothing. It's nothing personal, and insulting other users as "childish" is not a good way to go, lest they rain more downvotes upon your posts.
Unfortunately, many of us browse on mobile and accidentally hit the down rather than the up and you can't change votes (I know this happens to me a lot on my phone and iPad). This is the case a lot of times. I know this is being considered under Site Stuff. But as far as mentioning/complaining about DVs, stay away from it.
Good advice.
The first rule of Downvote Club is NOBODY TALKS ABOUT DOWNVOTE CLUB!!!
I guess i didn't really see it that way. It's not that it bothers me either, however, i guess there will always be people that act that way no matter what. Have followed this website for awhile now which is why i decided to register.
This is a prime prospect.
Let's just hope he's not related to Jalen Rose!
I think we're safe there
More like I hope he's not related to Sam Hurd.
Wayne Woodrow Hayes
I read a few posts on Vol Nation where they quoted articles from the Vol's 247 and Rivals sites post-Tennessee visit. Some things I thought you guys might find interesting:
Hurd says that 1) he likes what Tennessee is doing, but doesn't know if he's going to be a part of it (poster's note: I felt it was HUGE that he came right out and said that, personally; perhaps trying to let them down easily?). 2) He doesn't care so much how the teams did last year, but he's going to be watching how successful the teams are on the field this upcoming year, and that that WILL affect whether or not he'll choose that particular team, 3) he wants to see improvement in Tennessee's football team this year before he'll even consider them (also huge in my opinion--basically I interpret it as him saying they're on the outside looking in at this point in time), 4) his relationships with the staff are particularly important, and 5) he plans to go to the Spring practices of all of the teams he's considering before making any decisions.
Mike from Rivals says that Jalen Hurd was one of the most argued about prospects when it came to deciding who should be a 4-star and who should be a 5-star. He said 5-stars are players he feels are a sure thing at the collegiate level--and while he felt that Hurd has elite talent, he's not sure about how Hurd's "straight-up" running style will translate, thus the 4-star rather than the 5-star.
^Interesting elements to me: if OSU has another successful year and Tennessee doesn't do something surprising, I'd say OSU is a veritable lock. Florida's the only other team on the horizon, and if OSU can match or better the season Florida has, it'll likely come down to who he has the better relationship with. Based on the fact that OSU is said to lead currently, I'd assume he has a better relationship with the OSU-staff.
IRT to Rival's ranking: I think Eric Dickerson and Adrian Peterson might have something to say about his critique of the "straight-up" running style.
+1 Thanks for the great info LLJJGG! Personally, I thought it was pretty telling that he was already talking about tOSU being his next visit, and unless he comes earlier, it's not supposed to happen until June, or whenever they set the date for the Nike Camp in Columbus.
I agree with you on his running style. I think that either it is fine or it can be corrected. If you watch more then just his highlights, he lowers his shoulders more when he makes contact.
Again, thanks for sharing!
Some think getting 7 wins would be enough to sway him. People on VN are weird.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
"before he'll even consider them" thats the killer, i cant beleive tennessee is a recruiting rival of ours now, i love that were recruiting the south and thats huge but im just wondering how many more times im going to have to see butch jones face on 11ws
My guess is at least one more time
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
UT needs more than a few wins, they need a complete culture change. And Jones may or may not be able to do it. It has been a revolving door for coaches, and the administration of their athletic department has been quite poor.
Great highlights. Power and speed, hope urban gets him
I don't expect Tennessee to be very good this season. Their defense was horrific last season and I don't see it getting much better. On offense they will be breaking in a new QB and lost their top 2 receivers. I don't know about their RB situation, but nobody from last year stood out to me. Their O-line is pretty good, so that may be their strong point. It's gonna be an uphill battle for UT to be competitive. I honestly don't know if they'll even get to bowl eligible status this season. On first glance at their schedule, here's what I think:
Aug. 31 Austin Peay Knoxville - W
Sept. 7 Western Kentucky Knoxville - W (but who knows it's Bobby Petrino @ WKU)
Sept. 14 at Oregon Eugene, Ore. - L
Sept. 21 at Florida * Gainesville, Fla. - L
Sept. 28 South Alabama Knoxville - W
Oct. 5 Georgia * Knoxville -L
Oct. 12 Open Date
Oct. 19 South Carolina * Knoxville - L
Oct. 26 at Alabama * Tuscaloosa, Ala. - L
Nov. 2 at Missouri * Columbia, Mo. - toss-up
Nov. 9 Auburn * Knoxville - toss-up
Nov. 16 Open Date
Nov. 23 Vanderbilt * Knoxville - toss-up
Nov. 30 at Kentucky * Lexington, Ky. - W (but last time UT played @ UK, they lost)
Who's going to be Auburn's QB? Frazier?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I don't know about their QB right now. Probably Frazier.
I am calling the game a toss-up simply based on the fact that UT's defense is not good and I expect Gus Malzahn to have his offense up and running at Auburn in some capacity by the time they play each other.
Here's hoping Malzahn plays to Frazier's strengths. At least in that game.
Is it just VolNation, or are all Tennessee fans acting as if Butch Jones is their savior?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
@BVTW:
I'd say close to all. Can't blame them, though, I would too if I was a Vol fan. Not because I'd actually think Butch was a transcendent coach. But I mean, you can only root for who you've got. Always gotta hope that the next guy in is the one who can turn things around. As an OSU fan for example, I even entertained thoughts that Coach Fickell could be the guy post-Tressell when he first took over haha. Any hope is better than none I suppose!
The thing that gets me is when someone on VN suggested they hire Tressel, the majority acted as if JT was no better than Dooley.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
He will have to get used to not lining up 8 yards deep in the back field, how to run an option and a zone read. Not as many schools running out of a Pro-I these days, even though it is the perfect offense for him with a stud fullback.
But look at all the wholes Carlos Hyde got this past season. If the tackles perform like they did this year, and the WRs and TEs block, Hurd will have plenty of time to burst through the whole and hit open field.
BY the time Buckeye opponents realize Hurd got through the first level of defense, they will have overwhelming dread that 6 points are about to go on the scoreboard.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
I'm hearing Ohio State is in very, very good shape here.
Really?
Is that what you "HURD"?

Hmm, I guess the new spellcheck isn't working...
Urban is turning Ohio State into a monster; good for us, bad for everyone else :)
Wow....Just wow..
When is he visiting? I don't see how reports are saying he's a near lock for OSU. You look on his twitter, and I don't see any Ohio State targets/current recruits/current players talking to him at all. I just hope he doesn't turn into another Quin Blanding; hearing these reports and the very next week, all signs point to another school. Does anyone have any word on when he's visiting anyway??
Well he already visited for THE GAME in November.
Also Blanding was predicted to go to UVA for the last like 6 months. Only within the last week did rumors of OSU being in it come out. And we still could land him, you never know.
With Hurd we've been in his top group for a long time, and he even named us a leader at one point. We look good for him.
I heard (Hurd) he was looking to visit OSU next (post-TENN visit last weekend). Don't know if/when exactly that visit will happen.
Dave Biddle posted something on him just a few minutes ago over on 247, but I'm not an insider there so can't speak to what it says.
According to Rivals' Marc Givler Hurd is supposed to attend Nike Camp in Columbus in June and visit tOSU then. I don't think they've released the date for the camp yet and I believe it was in May last year. The reports that came out after his UT visit made it seem like it could be sooner, but I didn't hear or read anything that gave a time frame. The Nike camp would make sense as he might be out of school for summer at that point.
Bucknuts is supposed to have an interview with Jalen Hurd their Front Row Radio today.

Update: The TimesFreePress.com has an article (free) from today reporting that: New Tennessee coach Butch Jones looking for running backs coach. Some feel that with running backs coach and former UT tailback Jay Graham accepting a job and joining Florida State's staff today, it will hurt UT's chances with Hurd and some Vols fans even fear Hurd may end up at Flordia State. Other Vols fans feel that Graham wasn't that big of a factor in Hurd's recruiting. Depending on who the new Vols running back coach is, and when he is hired, could have an impact on Hurd's recruiting. In the end, hopefully this is just more piece of good news for tOSU and getting Hurd to Columbus.
This picture (which was also posted earlier in this thread) is of Graham, Hurd and Jones at the UT basketball game during Hurd's visit to UT:
FSU wasn't in his top 3, Tennessee was likely his 3rd option. I think the move helps FSU, but I don't see how it would make them his #1 (or mean he'd necessarily end up there) when Graham being at TENN didn't even make them a top 2 in his mind. I do think it hurts Tenn (you can't really trust what people say on VolNation lol, they're the biggest homer site I've seen). But the fact that OSU and UF have had coaching consistency throughout his entire recruiting process I think will end up benefiting both in the end. JMO
+1 LLJJGG! I agree with you. I think it's an over reaction by some of the Vol fans. There was at least one of them that even commented that they should let Hurd pick the coach! I don't think that FSU is that big of a player (at least not right now). They probably just hate the thought of losing Hurd and to lose him to Urban or another SEC school even more! I don't know if UT was able to tie or pass UF after his visit, but it appears that tOSU is still in the drivers seat at this point and I think that this only helps us. They would have to hire someone pretty special to replace Graham for it really help, in my opinion.
Interesting note on this: Graham was the only coach Butch Jones retained from Derek Dooley's staff, but he was set to be the 2nd lowest paid guy on the UT staff. Speculation is that Jones kept Graham on staff due to his recruiting prowess, as he helped South Carolina land Lattimore (when he was an Asst. there) and helped UT land WR Marquez North this year, among others. Plus, he already had an established relationship with Jalen Hurd.
+1, Very goo points Tenn! Thanks for the info!
Hearing the same as Miles above...not sure about "near lock" bc I'm not sure that exists anymore...except a guy named Nick Bosa...ala like his brother Joey. Those two (with the exception of Cam and Jalin) would be the only two "locks" I can think of lately. May be Sprinkle or Worley...not sure...

A near OSU lock to committed to Tennessee. I hope a duffel bag with $180k didn't show up on his dad's doorstep! I don't know what Butch Jones is selling, but people are drinking the kool-aid.
I would comment on the mediocrity of UT but the thin-skinned, professionally offended people on this website will downvote me.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
drop it grayskull! Just drop it!
People will downvote you for that because it makes you sound bitter. OSU misses out on a 5 star recruit and you go and trash the school he picks because he didn't come to OSU. It's classless. Wish the kid luck, no need to trash his decision because he didn't pick OSU.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Im sorry if you feel that pointing out the truth is "trashing" but you can look at their track record. If you want I can pull statistics to prove my point on how mediocre they are. Just because I point out the lack of success in a program does not make me "bitter" or "trashing". How you people make these kind of connections is just insane.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
I'm aware of their track record, I just don't see the need to bring it up if you weren't bitter over not landing a recruit. Had he signed with OSU you never would mention UT's struggles, but since he didn't pick OSU you feel the need to dig up past records to justify why you think he made the wrong decision. Maybe the kid just decided he wanted to play for the hometown school? Records aren't everything to these kids.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
If Tennessee was never really any good, you have a point, but they have won a NC and were the cream of the crop in the SEC for quite some time. They will be good again despite what you believe is their record as of lately. Not to mention they finally have a decent coach that isn't from High School or a narcissist.
in regards to "bitter", you are being bitter towards us in the 11W community. by saying you "can't say anything or they will downvote me" is being bitter. Triv was saying you are being bitter because you received a few downvotes which also begs the question, Who Cares!
"trashing the kids choice" is what Triv said and yes you are trashing the kids choice by pointing out that UT has been horrible. Guess what, maybe the kid thinks he is so good that he will make them the best in the SEC again. Maybe he thinks coach Jones will make them a winner and he will be the key player.
Just because you have your opinion of the program doesn't mean Hurd sees it that way and then basically calling all of US out because you have been downvoted by a few people is not a way to help the situation. by saying "how you people make these kind of connections is just insane" is being "bitter".
and as I said before, just let it go or guess what, it will get worst and then you will feel like the others.
Fair point. Ill give you that.
Im not being bitter towards the entire 11W Community. I love this community and I like sharing my opinions on Buckeye football and basketball. Im calling out the people attack me for posting my opinion. I dont care about the downvotes.
I dont think they are horrible, I think they are average/mediocre. Just looking at the team today they do have potential. Maybe things will turn around for them, but simply looking at the other teams in the SEC I dont think they can compete with a lot of them.
I never said he should see it my way, I am simply telling my opinion. I dont know why everyone keeps saying "He doesnt think that". Obviously he doesnt or he wouldnt have committed. And again Im not calling out everyone on this website. Im simply frustrated that people are twisiting my words and making assumptions.
If you dont want me to comment on it then dont reply to my comments.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
So if you aren't questioning Hurds decision, why was it necessary to bring up Tennessee's record recently? There's no reason to trash the University (which calling them mediocre is trashing regardless of what you may think) unless you are bitter
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
this statement says you care about downvotes. At least enough to mention it.
I didn't reply to the comments, on the other post, but having read your comment on multiple posts about how you feel like "offended people on this website" are downvoting you I felt I had to say something so I wouldn't have to read another grayed out string of comments regarding downvoting and how it is "unfair to share your opinion" garbage.
FYI, if you are referring to someone in particular then refer to them directly. If you are referring to those that downvoted you and you don't know who they are, then you must be referring to those who downvoted you which also means you care about being downvoted. If you are not referring to either one of those, which you have pointed out, then you are commenting to the entire 11W community. Which one is it?
Share your opinion, by all means. You have done that on here for quite some time and are free to do so as much as you want. BUT, when you say snide comments in general, basically referring to no one in particular, expect downvotes and just don't lash out when it does happen. "calling out those who attacked me" is an attack itself and not directed at anyone. Keep doing that, you will see it just leads to more downvotes and more "attacks".
Perhaps this means he wasn't a lock after all?
"It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways." - Buddha
Can we PLEASE now, for the love of FREAKING God, quit using the phrase "He's a LOCK"... There's no such thing and I'm quite simply tired of it!
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got nine guys who better go do it again. Do it a little harder next time." -- Urban Frank Meyer -- I LOVE THIS DUDE!! :)
Could not agree more Katzfan. So many supposed locks go elsewhere and it shouldn't be all that surprising considering how young these kids are and how easily they can change their minds.
I blame the cute blonde pictured above.
Yes, and who can blame him, really...
Near lock my ass
So, does anyone know if he ever even made it to OSU?? Furthermore, does anyone know if he will still take any visits?
Edit: Will agree - lock & near lock should be erased from the Recruiting Dictionary...

He made one visit to OSU for the Game back in November and had tentatively planned to return to Columbus in the Spring. I don't know if he will stilll take visits as I haven't heard that commented on by him but he sounds like he wants to be a class leader and recuit other kids to Knoxville.
Thanks Tenn. I just read your link on the other thread & I agree, sounds like he's all UT & his commitment is a solid one.
