Ohio State’s representatives for Big Ten Media Days usually say something about the program’s leadership structure before the pads start to pop in August.
It's no surprise to see the Buckeyes select wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, quarterback Julian Sayin, and safety Jaylen McClain to make the trip to the Hilton Chicago for the July 28-30 conference quote buffet.
Smith, fresh off being named the first-ever 99 overall for the launch of an EA Sports College Football game, is no surprise. After all, he joined Caleb Downs and Sonny Styles for B1G Media Days in Las Vegas last summer. He arrived in Columbus with enormous expectations and has met them at every step of the way.
Sayin is coming off a redshirt freshman season in which he was a Heisman finalist, and will be the focus of an Ohio State offense that is expected to be one of, if not the best, offenses in college football. No surprise there.
McClain's inclusion is interesting in the sense it may be an indicator of what's in store for the safety this season. The junior from New Jersey is coming off a year in which he started all 14 games for Ohio State, earning third-team All-Big Ten honors in the secondary. It's also worth pointing out that McClain was honored as Academic All-Big Ten, Ohio State Scholar-Athlete, and an Iron Buckeye last season.
Here's the full list of attendees for the unofficial start of hype season.
