would you trade Braxton for Deenard in 2012

if you could? without puking, that is.

I really think Braxton will show that he is the better overall QB of the 2 in 2012.  Deenard may have more rushing yards, long runs and rush TD's, but that isn't what the Buckeye offense is looking for (I think).  Deenard IS Michig*n's offense, while Braxton is (hopefully) just the trigger man in a more balanced offense.  I think Braxton will show he has a stronger more accurrate arm this coming year.

I'd say no to the kid who hasn't learned to tie his shoes yet and eats imaginary cereal. I'd say yes to the Jheri curl.

Denard hasn't shown anything to convince me that he has the football IQ to run the spread any better than Braxton. Maybe he'd surprise us, but for now, I'll take Braxton.

This won't be a run first offense, Denard's ability to scramble away from everything won't be all that much more useful than the similar ability than Braxton has, and I contend with full confidence that Miller will be a better passer than ole arm punt this year.

I can't take my biased opinion out of it. I would rather lather up a wash cloth of explosive diarrhea and scrub myself down than have denard as my QB... real talk.... (Not really real, but you get the point)

I would take 2012 Denard over 2012 Braxton. Neither is a complete product, but Denard in the open field is the most dangerous man in college football. Braxton simply isn't a good enough passer yet to make up the difference there.

BuckinBama's picture

In the open field I don't think there is a player that can tackle Brax 1 on 1 that dude would shake a dude in a phone booth. Str8 ahead speed, I give it to Denard. So to answer your question I'm happy w/B.Miller.

No because even if Denard is better than Braxton in 2012, it doesn't matter because 2012 means nothing. 2012 is prep for a Championship run in 2013. You would be removing Braxton from a full year learning Urban's offense and sacrificing success in the 2013 season. No way!

No offense man....but this is my most disturbing thread ever.  Hell NAH BRUH...not in a hundred years would I.  He'll have so much better passing accuracy and all other stats besides may be rushing when all is said and done and both stay four years.  I'll say rushing may be hard to beat but if TTbow's rushing stats are any type of a measuring stick...I'd say Braxton will pass him there too.  I've said this to several of those ppl from up north that insist on coming here for banter that it won't even be comparable.  Just go back and look at DR's TDs to INT ratio...it's not too good.  Rushing yes...passing no...besides the ND td at end of regulation.  Besides that...tTUN fans don't have much dramatic passes to compare to this.  Can we remember DR doing this as a TRUE freshman...I'd say the answer is obvious.  GO BUCKS!

At this point in time, maybe.  Denard is a senior and one hell of a player, and though Miller has a higher ceiling, we really don't know how much he's progressed yet.

#5 might not have been the most accurate passer last year but at the same time Shoelace threw to the other team almost as much as he did his own (40td/30int). IN BRAXTON I TRUST

I would NEVER trade Braxton "Jerry Curl" Miller.  He has a much higher ceiling than Denard and fits well with the system Urban will run.  However, We are basing this off 1 year of miller (his freshman year) against 3 years of Denard.  Let's see how Miller does the first few games then revisit this.  I feel like he will be A LOT better of a passer.

I would trade this thread in for a more interesting one... haha jk but from everything positive I hear about Brax at camp I would say no way would I make the trade but realistically of course I would want a senior over a sophomore, especially over the first half of the season but I think Brax will really come on strong later in the season. Denard is at his peak right now and he would tear it up in this offense, I think we all agree #5 has a higher ceiling and I not only wouldnt trade him for Denard but ANY QB in college football for that matter (taking into account years left of eligibility)

DR throws arm punts. Brax has a way better throwing motion allowing him to be more accurate and a stronger arm. Brax is a sophmore and is already comparable to DR throwing the ball and he is a senior. Brax is not that much slower than DR and has some sick moves of his own. That being said brax is and will be the better QB of the two. Take that to the bank.

I would die if Michigan had Bauserman and started him over Denard, only because he'd set a record for "Most Single Season Thrown Away Passes" in NCAA history.

By the end of last year, Braxton was only a smidge behind Denard. In fact, over the last six games Brax had better passing numbers AND better rushing numbers, DESPITE the worst offensive playcalling in the history of all mankind.

No way, no how would I make that trade. Not even if they both had the same amount of eligibility left. Braxton will outperform Denard this season and will be a far better passer.

Definitely not. Denard is a slot receiver / RB playing QB. He's not a good passer and if you can shut down the running lanes he's basically done for. I'll take Miller all day long -- Miller has so much more upside and now that he has an actual QB coach his accuracy will be greatly improved.

Didn't Brax and Denard have like identical offensive numbers in The Game last year - something like 3 yards difference in total offense?  And Brax was a true freshman?

Also, Braxton had a much, much better TD/Int ratio, although it was certainly from a much smaller "sample size."

I'll take Braxton, thanks.

asinghal31's picture
asinghal31 on 24 Aug 2012 - 2:24pm #

From what I've seen so far, I'd say Denard probably has a stronger arm than Braxton (although I don't know how he's progressed during this offseason in that area), but Braxton has the potential to be much more accurate. I think the TD/INT ratio argument is a little skewed for Braxton because of the number/situation of throws last year. That said, I think Braxton has the potential to be special if what Urban says is true about his accuracy progression in the last couple months. I would never trade Braxton for Denard.

Also, to @OSU2002GRAD, I think D'Anthony Thomas may have something to say about your claim of Denard being the most dangerous runner in open field.

the response to this thread helps confirm my belief that Braxton is going to be a GREAT Buckeye.  To me he has that uncoachable ability to make a play out of nothing, take it to the house any given attempt.  OSU will have a chance to win any game in which he plays.

I see alot (not all) of us Buckeye fans must see the same thing.  I'm super excited to see how this true soph plays this year, new offense, probably better position coaching, and better/more up tempo offense.

Deenard is a gamebreaker, has been hyped for the heisman trophy the past 2 seasons, and QBed Michig*n to a BCS Bowl victory.  The fact that the responses tend to say we want to watch Braxton grow and become a Buckeye Great, confirms my belief that we have something special at QB.
