Elliott would of been one of the last Buckeye commits that I could see visiting somewhere else. Meyer told him he would be the only HB in the class & with Dontre Wilson likely to end up in this class, Im wondering if he is starting to get upset about something.
Id much rather have Elliott over Wilson IF thats the case. Elliott needs to stay a Buckeye.

EZ-E is coming in as a pure RB, Wilson would come in as no more an RB than Jalin is. Jacobs wanted to check out MD where he brother plays for the visit experience (and didn't), EZ-E is now checking out the school where both of his parents where strong athletes. Things like this happen.
If EzE was visiting Alabama, Auburn or LSU, I'd be a bit worried. Missou? Seriously? Not worried.

I dont always root for college athletics, but when i do (which is most of the time) I choose THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

The fact that he's visiting you should be a little bit worried. I did do some digging into this though spoke to some people very close to Elliott and I feel confident that he will end up at Ohio State. Let's just see how this plays out but remember both of his parents went to Missouri so if he was going to take an official visit to any school would be the one he grew up around.
Thanks for the update Alex. I trust you and your investigative skills because you haven't steered us wrong yet but this definitely worries me. I really wanted to see EZE in this class in a bad way.
well.. he's has been a verbal since forever and with less than 2 weeks till NLOI he decides to take a visit. seems odd but OKKKKKK.

If he visited there, then I would be very worried. As it is I wish he weren't visiting, but hard to blame a kid for doing his diligence.
Coaches told the Elliott family that Dontre Wilson is being recruited as a wide receiver per Steve W of 247, FWIW.
If a recruit is "all Buckeye", as the expression goes, then why visit anywhere else at all... after you've committed that is? Before committing visit all you want, but after pledging I would have a problem with visits to other programs if I were coach Meyer. You're either committed or you're not. If Elliott was 100% committed then he wouldn't be visiting another school IMO. I read somewhere today that Mike Leach is no longer a welcome recruiter/visitor at a HS in Texas because he pulled a scholarship offer yesterday. Many of those commenting at the bottom of the story were saying that Leach was out of line in pulling the offer, and that it was simply wrong at this late juncture in the recruiting year. While I would agree with that, generally speaking, I would also point to Munger and Elliott as two examples of "the recruiting game" working both ways. If a kid wants to commit to a program months in advance, hold a spot, and then, with a only a few weeks left until NLOI day, start taking visits to other schools... like Leach pulling the scholarship, it just doesn't feel right.
For the same reason I flew from Columbus to Houston to listen to a job offer when I was perfectly happy with my employer at the time -- when someone wants to pay to talk to you, it doesn't hurt to listen.
While visiting Mizzou may make us uncomfortable as fans, what he's doing isn't unusual or wrong -- he's just taking a look around. If a college wanted to wine & dine me when I was in high school, I wouldn't have even thought twice (particularly if Hawaii called). I wouldn't swap my tOSU education for anything, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have looked/listened.

Ditto, I did the same thing once. Told the firm recruiting me I wasn't interested in moving to their state, and they said "that's okay, come anyway," so I went. They flew me out and wined and dined me, and I told them what it would cost to obtain my services. They balked at the price, I flew back home and life went on.

Jez, guys. You just want the kid to make the best decision for them and get themselves at a place where they can best succeed in life. Not exactly an easy decision to make especially if you don't fully understand your options. I hope Zeke gets exactly what he needs from the visit.
Not sure what to make of this. His parents have stated before in interviews that they were fine with this being his decision. I know that the parents also liked former OC Yost who left and is now on staff with Leach at Wash St. Hopefully this is just much ado about nothing.
texas and texas tech offering should have been a tell, they must have gotten wind he was opening things up a bit by visiting missouri. about the same time we started recruiting dontre wilson, talking to ryan timmons again.

Don't want to overreact but with two schools offering suddenly and an official to the home town school it seems odd. Why would you want to visit the hometown school you already know so much about and didn't commit to in the first place? To just tease that fan base again knowing you are going to be a Buckeye doesn't seem like something he would do. Probably am overreacting but odd that all of this happens at once.
Agree. When Dawson was first committed to um he started getting a ton of offers. Recruiting experts all said it only happened that way bc he let it be known he was at least somewhat back on the market. Gotta be a bit nervous about EzE. Would hate to lose him
Yeah but Dawson just strengthened his commitment to UM and isn't going anywhere, so if that is the example, I would be fine with that.
Damn, I really want to see Ezekiel Elliot in this class. He has been my favorite for awhile now, and he is a great kid from an even better family. I will be extremely disappointed if he decided to decommit 2 weeks before signing day.

I'm not feeling all warm and fuzzy inside about these last minute visits by Munger and EzE. I kind of liked the way Taivon Jacobs handled his business about Maryland. Oh well....these guys may just be seeing what's there and it's nothing to worry about. Or...these last minute offers are making some wonder why so they're making back up plans...not too sure how I feel but it's not good.

I understand taking these visits and giving the hometown team a look, but that doesn't mean I like it. I really think EZE is gonna be a Buckeye, he's a great fit for this offense. Go Bucks!

Unless missouri has a coach who can throw down an epic speech like coombs did on EzE's official to tOSU, I think hes staying in this class. Think about it...coombs speech made me want to run through a bank vault with that speech. Probably just due diligence...I'm no expert. nor do I have any idea of what a 17 year old kid is thinking. Just watch the video and remember who put it on youtube in the first place.

I was going to say the same thing. If anything is said to Zeke or his parents, it could only be taken as a negative. Don't screw this up. He will be a Buckeye if we stand behind him and wish him the best. But I will admit that my stomach turned when I read he was taking other visits. Urban wants him badly and offered early on so I think that will play in our favor.

Why would the kid even bother "doing his research" on Texas if he is 100% committed to the Buckeyes? I truly believe that Texas and Mizzou have a very, very slight chance. Why would he even bother visiting and researching the teams two weeks away from signing day if he wasn't interested? Worried just a tad.
WHERE THERE'S SMOKE THERE'S FIRE. Wouldn't you feel the same way if your Head Coach was relentlessly recruiting another player who plays the same position? I would make sure I had a backup plan, or maybe even take the visit to send a messege to the coach. Our backfield is crowded as is. I don't think Wilson and Elliot will end up in this class together.

I literally wish I could send out a massive text to every Buckeye fan and tell them to stop harassing recruits or to leave them alone. A recruit seeing a great fan base is a big thing in picking a school, but when stuff happens (like him taking an OV to another school) and people start getting on twitter and chatting him up, freaking out over it, my god that would annoy the crap out of me. Yes the fanbase has an impact on a decision, but sitting here and tweeting recruits all this stuff, nonsense. Especially when it gets to tweeting parents about thing. People are out of control with this twitter stuff.
I'll do it every once in a while to say congratulations on an accomplishment or accolade, or that #buckeyenation wants you. But people need to get a clue and a life if they are so in depth on a kid and his recruitment that they want to contact relatives. Leave that to the people we call the MEDIA.
Apparently Wilson is being recruited as a WR... I assume they would put him the slot/hybrid position. If Zeke is the only RB coming, then I think he stays. If Wilson comes in as a RB, then I think Zeke is gone. Not really sure how we are going to use 3-4 slot/hybrid guys tho. If anybody leaves I think it could be Jacobs. I think he knows the redshirt is coming.

I would disagree. There's a difference between looking at things critically/analyzing and attacking kids. Most people here are of the first group. Honestly it's been months since I've seen anything out of line on here regarding kids. The closest is academics, which is a touchy issue, but a rumor that's often true and must be addressed. If you would post some examples of out of line fan behavior on here, that would be useful. Perhaps I'm just not seeing it.

I wouldn't take too much stock in this. Mizzou is 1.5 hours from where he is in St. Louis, it's a day trip, not a weekend trip. Plus he goes to Burroughs, parents send their kids there so they have better academic options than Mizzou.

If Zeke leaves it will be a tough loss, but could possibly be the coaching staff's fault. They went all out assault on Wilson when Kelly announced he was leaving and that's what caused this. According to Alex, the staff knows about it and told Zeke they were recruiting Wilson as a WR and not RB.

The staff was all in on Wilson this Summer after EZ-E committed and nothing came of it. This theory simply holds no water.

Going to go ahead and call bs on this based on all of the information we know. The staff knows he's visiting, but he hasn't decommitted. If he were already a silent commit to the Tigers, I would think he would've informed the staff. You may be right, but I'm not sure grad assistants have that sort of information on hand or would leak it. Color me skeptical.

I tend to agree... I wouldn't mind an 11W break for a few days. I've always been addicted to OSU football, but I've become addicted with OSU recruiting over the past year. It's insane how many times I check this site each day. I'm looking forward to Feb 6th. Our NSD party list keeps growing. Going to enjoy watching OSU climb up the rankings and kick it with some friends.
I've scaled back quite a bit the past few weeks, but it's more because of the petty arguments and general douchiness that some have had toward others. A forum post about a recruit is hot and you click on it and see 80 posts of bickering, it gets kind of old.
My wife (who totally gets the obsession, 'cause she's an obsessed WVU/Steelers fan - keep your comments to yourselves, boys) pointed out the same thing to me the other night. "Why are you freaking out over some kid who may or may not turn out to be any good?"

Agreed. I had to tell myself to chill a little bit. I remember last year when the world ended because we didn't get Diggs. Fact is he had a great year, but somehow Urbz & Co. found a way to go 12-0. The part of the article that was telling to me was the note about Mizzou already having a running back in the class. The Dontre Wilson recruitment would seem to have little affect on what EzE is thinking

I was always taught not to worry about things until they happen. 90% (made up figure, but most likely very accurate) of the things people worry about never materialize. If it does happen, deal with it then. I am taking that stand with this incident. Believe me, it has saved me from many sleepless nights.

When I read it I thought to myself eh let the kid do what he wants to do if he wants to be a buckeye he will be if not good luck wherever he chooses to go. I believe he will ultimately end up Buckeye but in the end he will do what he feels is best for him.
Now for people to be on twitter messaging his mom and stuff like that, WOW. That is the exact thing that drives star athletes away from places. People need to chill out and let this kid be a kid and do what is best for him. Would love to have him on the squad but its not like there arent other very talented kids out there who would love to have his spot at Ohio State.
There are two reasons I don't follow recruiting all that closely: one, there simply isn't the direct relationship between rankings of players/classes and future wins that justifies the obsession (the same goes for NFl draft fetishists); and two, threads about recruits, even on a quality site like this one, attract a type of post I really don't enjoy. The fact that Elliott is apparently being harassed on social media doesn't surprise me in the least.
Which is a long way of saying: can't we wait until the young man has upset us in some tangible way before we start with the attacks and the premature worrywarting? First Vonn Bell is raked over the coals while his official visit is still in progress, and now this.

There are people who like to throw dirt, but I say let it play out. Jumping to conclusions just makes people look like an ass. If he stays great, if he leaves wish him the the best. Some people come off as scorned ex-girlfriends and you have never met him. There were plenty of people bagging Gibson because of grades even though he said they were fine, we didn't see his grades we are assuming, people will say and do things without any relevant evidence. We have RB depth without him, it will be even better with him.

Dontre Wilson is a great prospect and could make a HUGE impact as a slot guy... but Zeke could also help fill that role. If I'm the staff, I'm definitely talking to Zeke about this, making sure he's okay with this, and if he's not, I make sure he's solid before cutting it off with Dontre. The 2014 class is loaded with playmakers, and we only have two slots open for this class as of right now (unless there's another transfer), so just get a lineman and save a spot for Bell.
Then again, I might be biased, since Zeke is my favorite recruit of this class. If we can get him and Wilson, I'd be psyched, but if I had to choose one, it would be Zeke.

FWIW, I just talked to a buddy of mine who happens to be very close friends with EE's family and apparently he IS upset about OSU recruiting Wilson & others. He says he is a "soft commitment" at the moment and will visit Missouri for more than just a last minute visit. Apparently he is legit interested in seeing what they have to offer, one more time. He would love to be a Buckeye, but is a little upset about it all. Says he knows Wilson is being recruited as a slot WR, & EE is a true RB. but is still upset about the situation but isnt afraid of competition.
They say wheres theres smoke, there is fire. so lets see what happens. Cant believe he would be upset about it, but who knows. Maybe he is just playing games with the OSU staff to test them how bad they want him (whether or not they will try to contain him, or stop recruiting Wilson to keep him).
This might sound stupid, but the buddy of mine is friends with Elliott & his family members on facebook and he noticed that EE had "studying at ohio state" in his bio. Now it has been removed. My friend is good friends with his family, so this is not creepy by any means.
This does have me worried no matter what anyone says. he isnt a buckeye till he signs come Feb 6.

I have heard the same thing. I find it intersting that he would be upset about recruiting more offensive talent. It makes no sense to me what so ever. He couldnt have expected the staff to not go after slot guys with speed. I think if wilson commits EZE leaves, so hope they get Clark as well if Wilson flips, that would ease EZE leaving a little bit, but this kinda sucks. We need all the offensive fire power available and he is good enough to know he will get his time so this is more than surprising. I really think he ends up at mizzou.

Not to add to any panic - which I see this thread & topic more as concern over a valued recruit who we all seem to like rather than panic, but I do recall a news story on TV in which his father had said that nothing is final until NSD... I was a bit thrown off by that, even if it is obviously the truth. Still, he's a bright kid & a damn good football player who has been, for a long time now, very committed to OSU. If there is some sort of perceived slight on his part that the staff is recruiting too many playmakers, I believe in the long run, he'll look past that & see that OSU gives him a great shot at being a National Champion as well as a great player at a storied program. From all I've seen, he's done well in all the camps & games & should probably be a 5-star kid who has no real need to fear any compeition. So, while the visit is a cause for concern, I do think that if UFM & crew want him, & I would think they truly do, he'll be playing for the good guys when it's all said & done.

I'd love to know the real, unadulterated version of the "no more RBs" promise that Meyer made to Elliott as it seems to be the root of his supposed uneasiness. I say "supposed" not to question those who are suggesting or reporting it, but rather to question that if this is really the case, I don't know who is being unrealistic, us or him? I realize that depth chart has a lot to do with a recruit's decision, but to expect a school to not recruit more than one RB, or for a school to consciously decide not to recruit more than one RB, just doesn't seem wise and I'd be surprised if Meyer hedged that bet. I could be wrong, though.
He already basically chased off Green and Mizell telling every reporter about the 1 running back class.

From what I hear, in so many words --
* They love Buckeye Nation
* They've already been to Mizzou ~4 times and Zeke just wants to take one last look on an official visit. They've been to OSU like 6-7 times as a comparison.
* Dontre Wilson's recruitment has no impact on Zeke.
* They love Urban Meyer.
* The parents aren't pushing him to look at Mizzou or forcing him to do anything. They have to make a final sign off and be involved, but overall they leave it up to him. They love Ohio State.

He also said that as the #1 player in Missouri, he wanted to show respect to his parent alma matter by taking an OV to that school. It sounded like they are still Buckeye bound, but he did kinda leave the door open on some answers. There were some moments where I felt like he was not painting the whole picture. I am still not completely sold that Wilson, Clark, Timmons etc. have no bearing on this sudden OV and I am not as confident about him staying.
This comment right here, is exactly the reason that I will wish EzE well no matter where he ends up.
From everything I have seen, that has come from him directly and was not misconstrued or overblown by all the apocolyptic naysayers, this kid seems to be a whole lot of class wrapped up in a 17 year old package. He seems to be an authentic and humble kid with a very good value system. Respect is lost a lot on today's youth, and I think Zeke seems to have a firm grasp on the concept.
No matter where he decides to continue his education I will be a big fan of EzE.

This does not show show a lack of integrity and commitment, merely that he is continuing to weigh his options..If your going to use that arguement than maybe one could use the same that since Elliot committed OSU should stop recruiting any other recruits that could possibly replace him on the depth chart?

But .... They call it a verbal commitment for a reason. He should have weighed his options before he verbally committed.
If he was sincere at the time, it is understandable ... but regrettable that he held a spot.
If he was calculating (and I have no reason to believe he was) at the time of his commitment, then that kind of guy would be a turd.

I hope come signing day , he signs with TOSU, and Alex has given us no reason to think he wont. The guy is pretty spot on, the majority of the time. No one can control the mind of a teenager and its absurd when grown adults slander a recruit or his family because of a visit. Zeke will do what works for him, if its TOSU, than great, if not, wish him the best.

They have spent as much time on Bell as humanly possible. Urban and the staff have done everything, short of offering $, to try and get this kid to committ. He is a top recruit with his choic of schools, including Bama, so there is only so much they can really do.
