One of Ohio State's top 2028 recruiting targets has set his commitment date.
Five-star quarterback Christopher Vargas told On3's Hayes Fawcett on Monday that he will announce his college decision on Saturday. Ohio State is widely viewed as the favorite to land the 6-foot-4 signal caller, with On3's Steve Wiltfong, Chad Simmons and Adam Gorney all predicting he'll commit to the Buckeyes this weekend.

Ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 6 overall prospect in the 2028 class, Vargas visited Ohio State this summer for the Buckeyes' 7-on-7 tournament and one of the program's prospect camps. He told Eleven Warriors that Ohio State has been one of his top schools since receiving an offer from the Buckeyes in November 2024.
"I've been building relationships with them for probably two years or three years now," Vargas said of Ohio State's coaches. "It's been great."
Vargas also said he would love to play for Ryan Day, calling the Ohio State head coach a "QB developer" who helped players such as Dwayne Haskins, Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud reach the NFL. Vargas said he models his game after Stroud, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft and the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year that fall.
"He just has the same playstyle as me, I think," Vargas said. "Him and (Green Bay Packers quarterback) Jordan Love have the same playstyle as me, so I like to watch film and learn from them."
As a sophomore in 2025, Vargas threw for 2,083 yards, 24 touchdowns and three interceptions, improving on a freshman campaign in which he passed for 1,311 yards, 17 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Along with Ohio State, Vargas holds 20 Division I offers, including Power Four offers from Oregon, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Michigan.
