Four-Star Quarterback Brady Edmunds Announces He’ll Stay Committed to Ohio State After Weighing Flip to UCLA This Summer

After considering a flip to UCLA this summer, Edmunds announced Thursday that he will remain committed to Ohio State and plans to sign with the Buckeyes in December.

Edmunds has been committed to Ohio State since December 2024 and immediately emerged as the early leader of the Buckeyes’ 2027 recruiting class. For more than a year after he initially committed to the Buckeyes, Edmunds was all in on Ohio State, making frequent trips from California to Columbus and vocally peer-recruiting other OSU targets on social media.

For the last several months, however, Edmunds’ commitment to Ohio State was shaky. After Ohio State ramped up its efforts to recruit other quarterbacks in the 2027 class this spring, Edmunds began listening to other schools. The only school he seriously considered was UCLA, but his interest in the Bruins was strong enough that he entered his official visit to Ohio State last month uncertain about which school he would choose.

That said, Ohio State was where Edmunds wanted to be all along. Growing up in a family of Buckeye fans despite living in Huntington Beach, California, Edmunds said in June while visiting Ohio State that his commitment to OSU “would be a tough thing to walk away from.” So after Ohio State reassured Edmunds during his official visit that it still wanted him to be a Buckeye, Edmunds ultimately decided to stay committed to the school he had always envisioned playing for.

“This is the place that I've always kind of wanted to be at throughout my whole entire life, whether it was football or not,” Edmunds told reporters after camping at Ohio State in June. “Before I even started taking football seriously, I wanted to just be a student here, when I was in like fourth grade or whatever. So yeah, I mean, there's definitely an emotional aspect there.”

At the time of his commitment to Ohio State, Edmunds was a five-star prospect ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2027 class. Now, Edmunds is considered a four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 20 quarterback and No. 245 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. That said, Edmunds was selected as one of this year’s Elite 11 quarterbacks, and he’s had a prolific career at Huntington Beach High School, completing 68.1% of his passes for 2,724 yards and 32 touchdowns with only two interceptions in 11 games last season.

“I think the thing that makes me, in my opinion, the best quarterback in the country is my confidence and how I approach every single day and every single practice and every single game, weight room, everything like that,” Edmunds said in June. “I just think mentally, I'm different.”

Ohio State has told Edmunds that the Buckeyes could take a second quarterback in his class, and he told Ohio State that he has no problem with that, as he understands he’ll have to compete to be the future starter at Ohio State no matter what. That said, the current expectation is that Edmunds will be the only quarterback in Ohio State’s 2027 class, as all of the top 100 quarterbacks in the composite rankings for the cycle are committed to a school.

Now that Edmunds is firmly committed to the Buckeyes, Ohio State’s primary focus in quarterback recruiting will shift to the 2028 cycle, where the Buckeyes are an early frontrunner for Christopher Vargas, the No. 1-ranked quarterback in the rising junior class.
