For anyone following the scholarship, Bill Kurelic of OSU and MSU 247 affiliates says a source very close to the staff says that they'd be surprised to see any of the following names on the roster in the spring:
- OL Tommy Brown (one we've heard before, seems most likely)
- OL Darryl Baldwin (see above)
- DL Chris Carter
- LB Connor Crowell
- TE Blake Thomas (this is one that might matter, as Kyle Berger has mentioned his friendship with Blake in some interviews)
UPDATE: On Thomas, a source very close to Thomas says he's staying, which is good news if true.

Chris Carter, not surprised but still disappointed.
Same here. He's such a nice guy, from the few times I've met him, and I would've really liked to see him get a chance
I think he did have his chance.
I meant have the ability to crack the lineup, so not really.
Isn't he the one that used a fake uniform measurement scheme to feel chicks up at his high school?
“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
Yes. That's him.
Yeah "nice guy"
Ha BuckI-8 has high standards
I don't, but that's beside the point. Like I alluded, he was really nice from when I met him, which was the few times he came into Woody's and swiped for food for the entire line. He very well could've been using that a guise to feel up women who may feel obligated after his generosity, but I didn't see that part haha
In his defense, every time I've talked to him he's been a very nice guy.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
I think you may have left out a key word... allegedly. He allegedly (innocent until proven guilty) used a uniform measurement scheme to feel chicks up... Didn't it get dropped or dismissed?
Remember that in the end you will be judged not by what you believed, planned or dreamed; but, by what you did.
You must be a lawyer too? You are correct, "allegedly."

LOL, no-- I wish! I'm just a P.O.

The class that Tommy Brown and Chris Carter came in on has to be the biggest reach of an OL class in Ohio State's history.
To be fair, 2011 was a turbulent year.
I'll admit I was surprised when Tressel came to pursue Brown. He got abused in a weak city conference, and never seemed to be an OSU caliber recruit
Guessing no movement until after NLI day?
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
Could happen at any time. Depends on coaches' contact with the players
Surprised by Crowell and Carter. Crowell was an athletic freak that had a bad injury in high school. Thought he'd challenge for starting time this year. As for Carter, thought he had the potential to be a huge run-stuffer in the middle of the line.
I thought the same thing about Carter (thought that so long as he kept working, he would get some PT, at least in short yardage situations, and that eveyrone was excited about the move to DL).
not suprised at all............ I thought Baldwin would be a solid OL though.
With the way Meyer is bringing in really good LBs, I figured Crowell would eventually see the writing on the wall. Carter could be a very solid DT at a lower D-1 School. Blake Thomas & Tommy Brown, idk where to start to be honest. Never really figured why we were after them anyway.
That 2011 OL class was about worthless though. Brown & Carter never even seen any PT I dont think, and Underwood will only be a decent backup at best in the future. Bobek transfering before this season sucked, I thought he would be the gem of them all.
#Buckeyes
I'm surprised to see Baldwin on the list of possible transfers. I thought he was progressing well after his switch to OL and he even garnered some praise from Urbz.
Kurelic is a rumor monger, so it's important to remember that there's a chance that some of this is nothing. It's an unnamed source that proliferated these rumors, so their validity will remain to be seen.
Well I guess where there's smoke there is fire... Kurelic gets paid to do this. If he went around making up rumors all of the time he wouldn't be a credible source. Therefore, he probably wouldn't have a job.
True, but the boarding house is a rumor mill. He even has a disclaimer that everything is just hearsay and he can't vouch for the validity of it. In this arena, his source could be making it up and he wouldn't be a liability if he posted it.
Not going to say who, but I got information confirming one of the above is 99% gone
Dammit alex. You're damn cocktease
This came across a little wierd....

And I have inside inside inside information that 2 of them are 87% gone
60 percent of the time, they'll leave every time
This is worse than the time a squirrel got caught in the copying machine.
Well, what do Drewbuckeye's sources say?
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Hasn't Urban beet talking up Balwdin at OL recently? Or was that Chase Farris? Brown and Carter never deserved schollies in all honestly. Sounds rough but 100% reaches. Don't see Crowell ever playing since he will be passed by the past two huge lb hauls...Thomas was another reach..Not huge if we dont land Berger anyways (Raekwon, Booker, Garret, James are all more talented imo)
Berger will end up rated higher than Davonte James, I'll promise you that. There's a reason Berger has the coveted B1G offers and James has basically nothing. That said, I think Booker ends up growing into a DE, and Berger is a perfect fit in the class.
I believe it was Farris who drew the praise along with Decker. Plus, we have young guys like Dodson, O'Connor, Elflein, and Boren who will all be more developed this season. That isn't even mentioning Lisle and Gardner.
Agreed, except for one area. Just from seeing Elflein around campus, I'll be floored if I ever see him on the field for any division 1 team. He was listed at 6'3" in HS, but from looking at him, I'd say 6'1.5" at best. He's not a D1 lineman
he's the strongest member of the 2012 class, won the weightlifting competition and is a freak, won states in high school as a wrestler. he's bigger than boren, stronger than boren, and more athletic than boren. i wouldn't count him out. He's alot stronger than he looks, trust me
For you to say he is not D-1 you don't have a clue.
"Just from seeing him around campus" implies an opinion. My opinion is that he's not a D1 lineman. I suppose no one has a clue, seeing as he hasn't seen the field yet.
He went to my high school. the guys is 6'3" and is huge
But at a position that has 5 starting spots, that list of players is awfully short. Especially once this group graduates.
I don't disagree. I still hold out hope that we will land one more OL in this class and then at least 3-4 in the 2014 class. Not to mention, there could be a move or two from the DL.
Exactly. We were very lucky this season that our OL starters stayed healthy while so many other position group struggled with injuries.
Not trying to sound like a know-it-all but I've been saying this kind of attrition could happen before the Spring when many weren't up to UFM standards. I hate to say this but Blake Thomas sucks if that comes true...that could effect some things with Berger. The rest are very expected (and I agree with many above about Carter). He could have helped on the Dline but it seems the staff may want to go in another direction (I was hoping he could help at DT in place of Big Hank at times).

SO, if everyone above does transfer, does that increase the amount of open schollies? Or would we still bel ooking at a class of 24 or 25?
With the five early enrollees on scholly, the staff should be free to fill those scholarships if current players transfer. I believe we're at 81 right now, so losing 5 would put us at 76, so the staff could go after 6 more players. I'm just doing the math; I'm not suggesting those guys will definitely transfer.
Let me set the record straight on Blake Thomas. He is not transferring, leaving school or an afterthought of any coaches at OSU. Having recently met with Coach Hinton his position coach, expect Blake Thomas to continue working hard and eventually earning playing time
Not that I don't trust your info, and I hope it is correct, but how do you know this about Thomas?
As I stated, having met with Coach Hinton over the holidays to discuss Blake's fall season and his future role on the team, I am very certain he's working hard and will earn playing time in the future. Additionally, he's my son and I'd know if there was anything else going on.
Hahahahahahaha "additionally, he's my son." Well said.
Tell Blake good luck from Buckeye Nation, and keep that St Iggy pipeline flowing
Nice. Best of luck to him!
Awesome news! Do you have any idea about OSU's chances with Berger? Can't wait to see what Blake can do on the field.
I believe there is an excellent chance for our Buckeyes to land Kyle Berger in the 2014 class. He's one of the best LB's I've seen at the HS level and has as much potential as Jake Ryan from Iggy. Great family with a 3.9 GPA will be a welcome addition to the team!
Nice. Go Blake Thomas! And go Blake Thomas' dad!
touche to Mr Thomas...I for one had heard nothing but that Blake loved OSU, especially from Kyle Berger, so that Bucknuts dropped his name came as a HUGE suprise to me and was completely unfair to not only Blake, but any kid on that list....same reason why even though I know one is likely gone I won't say who
That is a good policy Alex.
That said, Mr. Thomas is a big boy, and has to realize that there are thousands of information hungry meat heads like us out there, and that public speculation is part of the gig. I'm sure there were meat heads at St. Ignatius speculating over personnel issues while his son was there.
We all know there will be attrition but speculation about who isn't a good idea.
I'm a big thomas fan n thought he was iggys best player on that title team. He'll play sooner or later.

Wow. I was expecting you to say, "Because he's a friend of my son's" or "I work with his dad", but "He's my son" is as legit as you can get as far as information. Thanks for the info.
And seriously, tell Blake that Buckeye Nation supports him.
Haha, awesome. I am glad we have this kind of input here. Most of us are just crazy idiots with strong opinions and a healthy appetite for everything scarlet and gray!!
EDIT: Also, Buck.I.8 you might want to edit the original post to let people know that we have it on good authority that Blake is staying put.
Done
Awesome! Cant wait till Blake gets a chance to show what hes got! Looking forward to a bright future.
Good luck to Blake!
Wow, awesome!

Now that's what I call an update.
In the "my son could beat up your son" pretty sure this guys wins...
Blake's parent setting us straight. Love it.
Well, I bet some people on here feel embarrassed. lol
Sweet thanks Mr. Thomas and above all thanks for being apart of this website to enlightening us who really like to know "facts" as opposed to "rumors." Thank you so much and GO BUCKS!

Were you smiling when you clicked the 'submit' icon on this post??
Excellent response. I half expected it to close with "Boom!" :)
Rooting for Blake even harder now!
It's great to see a parent on here, that's why this is the best buckeyes news site on the net. Thank you Mr. Thomas for setting the record straight and good luck to Blake going forward!
If you are willing to be that certain, I am willing to cross him off of that list. He will be used differently than Baugh, so I don't think that should be a deterrent to him. I hope you're right because we need to keep that St. Ignatius pipeline open so they don't all end up at ND or up north.
Well I guess 4Buckeye89 just shot straight to the top of my "Do-Not-F-With-List"! :) Pretty cool to see a parent on here. I wonder how many others there are.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Agreed. If Alabama is going to monopolize the title game and the SEC is going to weed out their rosters every year to increase talent levels. Then we have to start doing the same. I'd like to see these kids get schollys to other schools so their not just collateral damage. But if we keep sub par kids around with reduced scholarships no less, we're not going to compete. It really doesn't help the kid either if he's sitting for 4 years. Kids wanna play football. Ohio State wants to win championships.

@4Buckeye89 Thank you for participating in 11W, and for setting the record straight. I imagine if Blake were my son, it would be awkward reading about rumors that he may transfer. I really appreciate your ability to communicate the truth without getting upset at these rumors. Your participation is also a healthy reminder that 11W is a site that brings a lot of great information and a diverse group of buckeye fans. Thanks again, and go Bucks!
Also should be a reminder to not say things you'll regret because recruits, players, and parents do read his stuff...
agreed. Its good to remember that we are talking about college kids here and perhaps, prior to posting about a kid, people should think about how a parent would feel reading that post.
Coaches are fair game, but lets keep things in perspective about the players.
I think its particularly troubling to see some of the posts (on any site) about potential recruits, who are still in high school, particularly when they dont commit to the team for which the poster cheers. I think we should simply wish them luck and move on.
You are on target JLBNYC. Not too long ago I told a fervent poster through personal knowledge that players and their families read 11W and to keep that in mind when posting sensitive opinions. Thanks for sharing your insight Mr. Thomas as it will also serve notice to those that think this isn't the case. Best of luck to Blake and we'll see him playing for our Buckeyes soon enough!
4Buckeye89 - Just made this one of my favorite threads of all time.
agreed, as a father myself I could not smiling in reading your post. Kudos to you for keeping a level head with us knuckleheads as we get a little crazy from time to time.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Yes he did. And while I feel like somewhat of a complete dope for asking him where he got his information, I was just trying to make sure his info was legit. And it certainly is:)
losing 2 OL on an already thin roster spot raising some questions. I know they were buried on the dpeth chart, however injuries happen..
It really doesnt get any better than this. Well unless Herman chimed in on an offensive breakdown thread...
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
Rumor has it that Herman's alias is Ross Fulton. You heard it here first.
going to happen more and more. the more talent you bring in for compettion there are going to be those who fade. have to believe we will see it skill area in a few years. only one ball. few touches
I dont know karate but i do know crazy and i'm not afraid to use it.
&
Craziest plot twist: Blake Thomas transfers. Cites Alex not telling his dad which of his teammates was transferring.
Obviuosly I hope the kid stays put and 4Buckeye89 gets to watch him catch A td at the shoe, or even better in the big house.
89 helmet stickers in one day! That might be an 11w record! Give 'em hell Mr. Thomas!
Really hope Cris Carter isn't true. IMHO, that dude could be a 1st rounder as a NT. If it is true, it could mean he no longer wanted to keep working hard or maybe had his weight go right back up.
Rumor over at TOS that Crowell is more of a 'medical situation' and that he probably won't transfer. They indicated that he may be out spring or longer, and that the staff thinks he never regained the strength in his ankle. Thoughts and prayers are with Connor.
