Colin White will continue his career in the Buckeye State.

White announced Tuesday that he has committed to Akron, giving himself a fresh start at the mid-major level.

A former three-star prospect and Ohio Mr. Basketball winner, White starred at Ottawa-Glandorf High School, earning first-team All-Ohio honors as both a junior and senior. He also made rare history, joining LeBron James as the only players in state history to start on a Final Four team in all four years of their high school careers.

White never found consistent footing in Columbus, battling injuries and inconsistent play across two seasons. In 48 appearances with the Buckeyes, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound forward averaged one point and one rebound in 8.4 minutes per game while shooting 39.3% from the field and 11.1% from 3-point range.

A move to Akron now offers White an opportunity for a larger role and a chance to reset his college career closer to home. The Zips won the 2025 MAC regular-season title and have captured four of the past five MAC Tournament championships, though the program will enter a new era under Dustin Ford following John Groce’s departure to Charleston.

He’s the third Buckeye to transfer to Akron in as many years, following Evan Mahaffey last year and Bowen Hardman two years ago.
