I, like many of you was satisfied with the results but did you see the last TD? Did Meyer really need to call a play to score one more TD to run up the score on Nebraska. I understand a win is a win but this is just classless and makes Meyer appear like another coach we know and dbag. I don't think Meyer is here to follow the gentelman's agreement but to be the bad ass everyone knows he is. Anyway, I disagree with last TD and thought taking a knee would be better. What's your stance on this....

If it was a passing play id have a problem with it, but it was a running play up the middle, Hyde bounced it outside himself and the Nebraska defense couldn't stop him. If Nebraska can't stop a run play then its not our fault for scoring a late TD.

He ran the ball. That is perfectly fine. If they can't stop it, then that is on them. If he aired it out or ran Braxton on an option knowing Braxton was averaging 16 a clip, then that would have been classless a bit.

It's not our job to stop our offense. I'm glad we finally have this mentality. As long as we are ok with folks doing it to us, which I think most of us are, it's all good by me. We weren't throwing long passes, everyone in the stadium knew a direct handoff was coming...Nebraska didn't stop it. Their problem.
I don't have a problem with the score. I have a problem with 3 minutes or so when they get the ball back, not putting in Guiton and Smith to run out the clock. Keep playing ball but why expose our QB and RB, who have both been injured in the last two weeks, unnecessarily so? We were up by three scores. No need to keep the starters in there.
Listen, no matter what we do we will be called "classless". For ten years we had the most respecful coach to ever walk the earth. He would take a knee on the 1 yard line. When Tress hit hard times all anyone had were harsh words for him, harsh words for our team, and harsh words for us, the fans. The point is this BEING NICE GETS YOU NOTHING. The only way it helps is if you sleep better at night knowing you didnt hurt the feelings of people who want you to fail.

I just asked the same question in a post so that can be deleted now that I saw this, but you can't hate Urban for this. They called a run and scored. End of story. If they had called a pass then I could see the issue here. WIth that said I know there is a lot of eye rolling and other Big Ten coaches out there not appreciating that last score. Calling a run up the middle that goes for a touchdown is much different than Bielema calling deep passes agaisnt Indiana when he's already up 69-13.

He called a run play. The defense still has to play, if they want to lay down thats on them! Our guys played til the end, they gave up halfway through the 4th qtr and it was evident.

Buck - just saying that after all of the other crying about Urbans way of doing things you know there's going to be other coaches crying about this too. Of course I don't know and I don't actually care to be quite honest. I'm a Buckeye fan. That's enough for me. Maybe the other coaches are all out there right now at a poker game, having some beers, and high fiving each other celebrating the fact that the Buckeyes put up so many points. I don't know, but I would imagine some eye rolling is a bit more realistic.

It actually took me back a little bit. It was clear Pellini wasn't going to stop the clock so it was likely they didn't need to run that play. I will say, however, that I loved it. How many times did this team get up by 14 and call off the dogs in the past?
Plus, didn't Osborne and Nebraska build their program on pounding the hell out of teams by 75 points?
It's the defense's job to stop the offense. When the play call is a simply handoff, not even a read, it's not his fault if Hyde scores. What are the supposed to do? Punt on first down? It's not like we were passing or doing anything complex (no huddle, movement, etc). Jeez.

BME, I think the difference is that Wisconsin beat up a hapless, struggling, bottom dwelling member of the B1G, a team that no chance in hell against them. We played a strong top 25 ranked team that many sports talking heads had picked to beat us, and a team that had come back big on Wisconsin the week before. They had come back and beaten us last year, breaking our collective hearts. Huskers are warriors, our Buckeyes are warriors, that's the way it goes. Not to mention, Urban has already let the rest of the conference know that he gives no quarter.

jmo...after the past several weeks, the way we have played, the offense hasn't earned the right to get off the field...doesn't matter what the score is. they need the reps, in order to be managed, and learn how to be managed...to which it will pay dividends next year, when it really matters.
I am actually excited and frightened by what i saw out there tonight...fix a few mistakes and we are going to own the Big again for another decade until other teams catch up !
I'm talking to a friend who is a Nebraska fan, she says she has no issue with it and she thinks OSU should have scored even more on them. She is beating up on her team like we do when we have a bad game win or lose.
Nobody is even concerned about what Urban did or didn't do. They are more concerned about how much OSU killed them. It was a beat down no doubt.
Ok if I'm not mistaken it was less than 90 seconds left in the game and it was a 1st down. Why not rush up to the middle where everyone is or just take a knee and burn the clock. The game was already over...
I've read what Huskers have said on their forums and likely what you guys have replied with and it seem the following things are reoccuring...
*If they didn't want us to score they should have stopped us.
*Tom Osborne did this to teams when he was there. You guys are overlooking this because Osborne did it. (Husker Fans)
*It was a run play, so we can run where ever even if we score another TD.
*It wasn't like Braxton threw the ball and tried to throw another TD

BME, just going to have to get used to it. I actually won't expect 70 to be scored on Indiana. If OSU goes up early on Indiana, then the backups will definitely be in. They are not Nebraska who can score quickly on you before you know it. I also don't think this will be a largely common occurance. From what I recall with Urban scores was maxing out around 50-60 but often times finished the games around 35-45. but if the score goes up, its going to happen. Tressel didn't always keep the score low. He has had his handful of blowouts too.
I don't think a lot of people on here have issue with your point, just issue with your title. That just isn't cool man! We really dislike Bret on here and to compare our beloved head coach to him, just not cool!
I hear what you are trying to say, however speaking as someone who was at the game it was very clear that the team and every fan in the stadium was hungry for a blowout, and after the kicker incident that was very much justified.
Now the crowd was loud and everything during the first half, however once TBDBITL was disrespected by the two Nebraska kickers everything changed. My buddy and I who were among the students in the north end had never heard the stadium so angry. As the i dotter was taking his place those kickers were not 25 yards away from him. It was incredibly offensive and akin to an Ohio State fan ripping the head off of Nebraska's mascot, walking it to the middle of the field, and taking a dump in it, in their stadium. After that point the fans were just angry and wanted blood. I believe that energy then transfered to the players and I'm sure they heard about the incident.
That last touchdown was running up the score, but it was merely us getting even. It was for the band.
You know that scene in Full Metal Jacket where all the guys beat the crap out of Pvt. Pile?......just sayin....lol
Everyone has heard Urban say 'If you don't like it, stop it.' I don't think we ran a pass play the entire fourth quarter... That is Urban showing mercy.

AngryWoody nailed it. We played nice for the last decade. It got us nothing. We're still universally hated. I say own it. If your looking for a more sensitive approach I suggest a different sport. We ask these players to be tough and play aggressive. It's the nature of football. Now we have this soccer mom mentality trying to take over my sport. These are all adults, young men sure but everyone needs to suck it up. This was a ranked opponent not Indiana. Besides I pray this lights a fire under every B1G coach. This is what the conference needs to raise its level of play. We could use a little fire.

Like many people here, I loved the extra TD. Urban did this kind of thing all the time at Florida. Not that this matters this year, but when voters review the final scores of BCS teams, 7 more points in a win makes it look more like a blow out.

It was one of my favorite plays of the game.. Those conservative days are long gone and I expect to see much more of this..
It was a run play. Carlos bounced it to the outside. When he sees a wide open path to the endzone, what is he supposed to do? Take a knee? It's just not in a running back's DNA to do something like that.
If you're not going to play football for 60 minutes, then why play it at all? Why not just let the other team resign when they feel like they can't win any more? Think that sounds a little too much like chess and not enough like football? Good! Then don't complain about teams playing football for 60 minutes!

You knew this was going to happen when Meyer was hired, but apparently you don't know who Urban Meyer is. He wants to score 100 points, he don't care. It's called making a statement for one that we are the best in the B10. Two, it's Nebraska's own fault that they couldn't stop the run. It's not like Urban called passes and unleashed Braxton in the closing minutes. He simply ran the ball off to Hyde and that was the story of the whole game. No defense at all from Nebraska. If they didn't like it, then they should of made a play.
I see nothing wrong here. Coaches do it all the time, not all teams line up in the victory formation every time. Urban is one of those coaches who plays every snap. What the players need and what this team needs to be successful.

If Hyde had been stopped for a 5 yard gain no one would be saying anything. He happened to pop a big run and now people get upset.
I might have a problem if it was a pass, but this was as straight forward a run as is possible.
It isn't like people didn't know that Meyer teams play to the end.

The original post of this topic is asinine. If they game was already in hand, why was Pelini calling timeouts and throwing the ball down 18 with less than 5 to play? I really think Urban has a chip on his shoulder. He left Florida for health issues (whether you believe that or not) but since taking this job he has been bashed by everyone all around the country, accused of cheating by other coaches, and accused of all kinds of non-kosher stuff during his time at Florida. If I was a top 2 coach in any sport, and people talked that way about me, I would coach angry and aggressive too.
The BIG has this whole attitude of gentlemen's agreements and unwritten rules that made the whole conference weak. Urban Meyer is going to elevate the conference, or everyone else will continue to be pounded and embarrassed. It's that simple. Get better or learn to accept it.

Having been on the wrong side of a 72-0 thrashing, I have issues with teams running up the score. Not necessarily the same thing here
That said, while we were just running off tackle, I would still want to save that 9thTD for the evil ones in games 11 and 12.
I would have preferred that we ran out the clock with victory formation, but I don't have any issues with what we did. Heck, after enduring Tresselball for a decade I feel good about putting a good team away for once instead of letting them hang on.

I played at Mount Union and was a part of 3 national championships. During my time there, we blew out many teams by a lot bigger scores than this. Our coach would pull our starters and tell the second and third teamers to trip and fall on purpose or have us kick field goals on first down plays. To me that's a bigger slap in the face to your opponent than playing your hardest every snap. Urban is running the offense and saying go a head and stop us. Tressel would pull his hands off the throats and we would be pissed that we only won by 10 when it should have been 30!! Let urban do his thing and if teams can't stop us, it's not our problem!! I would like to see the backups finishing the game but get why they weren't in due to nebraska's ability to comeback.

When Urban was hired he warned anyone who listened. Since they couldn't win a B1G Championship or got to a Bowl Game he said they'd try to score 100 every game.
