OSU fans are generally always a unsatisfied, hence the impossible expectations that our coaches have always been up against. If we do finish 10-2, and step back and look at the season objectively, there's no way that you could call the season a disappointment. A four win improvement over 2011, and we'd still be in fine shape for a monster 2013. The taste of losing to scUM would suck, but it wouldn't dampen anyone's excitement for 2013.
I consider any year we lose to scUM a disappointment, we could go 0-11 and beat scUM and I would be happy at 1-11 and I think many on this board agree. I could stomach going 11-1 this year (losing to Wisky, even though I despise Bret Bellyma)...
At this point, I would say a 10-2 season would be a disappointment. The team has proven they can win games, and to lose the last two games of the season would be quite a blow. Plus, I doubt that would provide the recruiting momentum Coach wants.
I think overall if we look at the past year and go 10-2 with loses to Wisc and TTUN the year will be considered a success with big asterisk in our collective Buckeye brain. Yes, 10-2 is an awesome season that any program would love to have accomplished. But losing those last two will be tough to swallow.
We may say we would be ok with 1-11 and beating the Sun and Blue, but we all know that would not be ok following the coach being fired and campus having already burned down.
Without any chance of going to a bowl game or winning the Big Ten, I went into the season thinking "As long as we beat Michigan". I would be disappointed with the season if we lost to them. But optimistic for next year because we were 10-2 or 11-1.
No way a 10-win season is a disappointment as a whole. Sure losing 2 of 3 will be less than ideal, but you have to look at the big picture. 10 wins is always an accomplishment in my book.
They have made it this far so yes I think losing even one game would be a dissapointment. I wouldn't be on a ledge or spouting crazyness on here the next day if they did lose. At the same time though, having made it this far in the season to let one slip past us now would be tough to stomach.
If you asked me two weeks before the season started if 10-2 would be a dissapointment I would have laughed and said "Are you serious?" Sitting at 9-0 now though with a crappy ILLINI team next and two winnable games after that, 10-2 doesn't have the same ring to it.
my $.02
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Yes and no. Needless to say, 10-2 was about what I expected coming in to the season anyway. But it would suck if we started 10-0 and ended up 10-2. The big goal, other than maybe going 12-0, is beating TSUN. If we lose to them and go 10-2 or even 11-1, that will hurt. That doesn't mean that we haven't made progress and this isn't a good season, but it's a good season where we are left thinking about what could've been. Kind of like 2006/07.
Yes, but first off, OSU will not lose a game this year. I believe this team has bought in to going undefeated after that come back win in the Purdue game. I won't lie, I thought that was it and then they came back to win it. I can't even see why people would even be concerned with a lose in any of these last three games to be honest (besides 7-11 at home against Illinois). They were the toughest games to start the season if you looked at OSU's schedule. Now, it's not that hard to see OSU beating Wisky and TTUN... It will be a tough environment in Camp Randall but they're not the same team as last year without Russell Wilson. TTUN...common man (Nerdwestern and even Minnesota could beat them). Both TTUN or Wisky will be at best 8-3 or 7-3 when we play...that's if they don't lose another game. I'm saying OSU may have played the best team last week and that's not really saying much...but it's not what we thought at the start of the season.
I say no to this season being a disappointment...they've already surpassed many expectations most fans had. If they did have a loss to Wisky then fine...however...they will NOT lose to tTUN...that you can take to the bank.

I personnally think there is a lot riding on these final three games. One great thing about Tressel was we were usually playing our best ball in November. That is important to see out of Meyer as well. There is going to be alot of pressure on Meyer to set the tone in "The Game" as well. If he were to lose this game at home it sets the wrong tone for future Buckeyes and his staff. (ie Cooper) Win that first game and the Monkey is off your back so to speak and it can snowball in your favor (ie Tressel) So dropping our last two games would be very devastating. I hope we dont have to visit this question! Not sure what's the answer.
"I'll fire when I'm god damn good and ready! You got that?" - Pete "Maverick" Mitchel
YES - I think many of us would have said 10-2 would be acceptable on September 1st, but Now.......Not so much! Sitting at 9-0, with a home game against the Illini and an the expected 10-0 losing the last two wouldn't sit well at all. Especially when you look at the seasons those two have had to date. I expect both games to be very competitive, but we should be able to outscore Wiscy at Camp Randall and the team has been pointed toward The Game from day one, and I expect nothing less than VICTORY!
I'm a deeply pessimistic person, I know, but I'm actually more worried about Illinois. So far the team has shown up to play the stronger programs in the conference so I think they have decent chances against Wisky and Michigan, barring (more) injury. Michigan is always a toss-up, and that game will define whether I'm happy or sad all winter, but since it's such a surprisingly good rebuilding year, even if we lose to Michigan this year I wouldn't consider the year a complete disappointment. If we don't show up to play or don't care in any of the remaining games, that would be disappointing. I don't think that's going to happen.
10-2 is not going to happen. 11-1 is more likely than 10-2. With the loss being at Wisky. That game is going to be a blood bath. Wisky, and their fans, will be super pumped for that tilt. I don't see us losing to AACC. I really don't. Even with a perfectly health Detard I don't see it. Urban understands this rivalry, just like Tress did. He has been pointing this team toward November 24th since he took over. This is our bowl game, this is our season. We will be so pumped and jacked for this game it won't matter what. Plus the fact I think Urban will out coach Flounder.
The loss isn't going to come to Illinois or Wisconsin... Illinois is absolutely terrible and Wisconsin just lost their starting QB due to a broken collarbone... The only chance we have of losing it to scUM and I only think we could lose because we don't handle spread offenses well. I think we will win because A) we are more talented B) we are better coached and C) we are at home!
Cmon now dont tell me you would be okay finishing 11-1 or going 1-11 and beating Michigan. Every time I come on this site after a close win the site is going crazy that we suck and fire fickle and what was meyer thinking. Lets be honest now. Are you really okay with losing to Wisconsin?
Not to sound like one of those proverbial "fans who are never satisfied," but 10-2 would mean no wins that qualified as upsets, and two losses that qualified as upsets for the other team--mild ones perhaps, but upsets all the same.
Losing to AACC is not an option : we will have some of the biggest name recruits visiting for this game and the shoe has to resemble the Super Bowl to these kids. Also, we will have the 2002 Championship team there and the hype will be palpable in the stadium that day....wish i could be there for that !!!!
Yes this would be a huge disappointment. I can't stomach losing to Wisconsin and I'll be depressed after the Michigan game. I enjoy watching people driving their convertables in my neighborhood, with the passenger waving the Ohio State flag as they drive down the street and the cops do nothing about it after beating Michigan. Being 12-0 and seeing the fans show their pride in Northeast Ohio will make it all the better.
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
I see people saying things like "people can stomach losing to Wisconsin but not Michigan". I do not expect us to go undefeated, as long as that loss is not to Michigan I will be thrilled. I expected an 8-4 to 9-3 season so we have to beat Michigan still.
Back to back losses to end the year, to two of my most hated teams in the Big Ten, certainly cannot be considered a success. For other teams to go 10-2 but lose to your biggest conference rivals might be alright, but not at tOSU. Meyer knows that and hopefully can get the message across to the players.
TSUN is the 2012 bowl game, they have to win that.
Illini suck bad, they have to win that.
For some reason I dont care for Wisky, they have to win that one for me
If the Buckeyes were to lose any one of those games it would be a disappointment at first but then I would still remember all the great wins this season and look forward to the next season....
Yes, 10-2 would be a disappointment, based on what we know now/where we are now. In the pre-season talk, 10-2 sounded pretty sweet, and almost overly confident. But now that we are on the doorstep of 10-0, 10-2 loses some luster, at least in the short term.
That being said, I would rather lose to Illinois this Saturday than to those shitbags from up north on 11/24.
Yes. With the way the Buckeyes are pulling off scrappy wins and playing as a team and as bad (yes bad) as Wisconsin and Michigan are doing this year, I would consider this season a disappointment if we dropped one of those games. However, my expectations have risen with every win this year and I see no reason that we should lose any of our remaining games.
I would not have been disappointed with 10-2 or 11-1 if looking at it at the beginning of the season, but still would have hated to lose to either of those teams.
You can kill a fly with your slipper or a cannon. Either way, the fly dies. -Ramzy
Based on what this team had at the beginning and the way it has played in too many games 10-2 is fine. But I'm with those who would take 1-11 as long as the 1 is against AACC. No year is good enough if it includes a loss to scum. Whiskey are just punks, I could envision a coach for them I would not mind. But nothing can make TSUN enything other than pure poison.
To be terribly honest, I was coming into the season secretly hoping for a loss or two. I, of course, always want the Buckeyes to win (obviously). But part of me also made peace with at least a loss or two, only because the thought of going undefeated and being shut out of a chance at a BCS bowl made me ill. But the way the season has been, I say to hell with it, let's go 12-0 and just keep the streak alive next year.
It would be very bad cause I would lose a lot of money. I have bet more than a few friends $100 each that OSU goes undefeated in the regular season every year under Meyer.
While this season has certainly gone far better thus far than I think most of us had initially thought and especially due to early defensive, shall we say deficiencies that are finally getting better. ANY year with a loss to Scum is dissappointing, it is our nature as Buckeyes to hate them that much. that and should the apocalyptic happen and we lose to them, I will be socially unapproachable for at least a week. so we could lose to whisky and we could really choke and lose to illini but to scum..... just hell no. so here's to the Seniors who have soldiered on this season and led by example to our younger players, we say thank you.
All the games of the season are just practices for that glorious saturday in November when we get to jack Shoelace's invisible cereal bowl and drink our fill of delicious skunkweasel tears ...Michigan Still Sucks!!
I don't think anyone will be happy if we lose to Michigan. I think a lot of people can stomach going 11-1 with a loss to Wisconsin.

At the beginning of the season I made peace with myself. I said: We can go 1-11 so long as the "1" is a "W" against Scum.
Any season in which we lose to SCUM is a sub-par year to me.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
I consider any year we lose to scUM a disappointment, we could go 0-11 and beat scUM and I would be happy at 1-11 and I think many on this board agree. I could stomach going 11-1 this year (losing to Wisky, even though I despise Bret Bellyma)...

Yes a loss to tTUN no matter what the record is, is a disappointment.
