Saw something on 247sports that Taivon Jacobs was deciding tomorrow...on his 247 profile he has OSU as one of his top choices, does he have a commitable offer? Considering the # of spots left, I wouldn't think so, but surprises do happen.

Just seen on Twitter that we may be nabbing him as the next recruit in theis year's class. If true, I imagine we are not looking to good for Quick/Foster and now with Gibson's situation. Again, there is alot of time left to recruit in this year's class. Of course that can be countered with every high rated recruit committing early...we'll see.
FYI: His top 3 is OSU, WVU, and Maryland (home-state school).
I am also curious to see how this ends up and if he chooses OSU, like what said, is his offer commitable, and what it could mean for the other receiver targets.

His highlight tape.
It's good to be home.
He's fast, but I would think he definitely needs to bulk up to play at the D1 level.
i mean no offense to this kid, but he isn't exactly the ATH/WR I was hoping to add to the class, given the amount of room we have left in it...might just be me, but Im hoping he goes elsewhere
I think at this point we have to take the kid if he wants to commit. Looks like Gibson and Foster are probably going to end up somewhere else and Quick is Louisville unless they lay an egg this year. The only person we should hold a scholly for is Bell. If he wants to commit, I say let him come on. I'm not worried about his weight, I'm sure Mickey can put 20 on him next year.
staff saw him in person and liked him...I actually think he could be a great safety, but that's me....I haven't heard anything on where this might go so we'll see tomorrow
At first glance, he doesnt blow you away. But after watching more film he has that "makes it look easy" speed. He returns a couple INT for touchdowns where you really see him pull away. Could be a play making gem
Be a shame if we didn't get one of the Gibson/Foster/Quick group considering at one point most of us thought we get 2 maybe all 3 of them...ah o well, have to trust the staff, and I am really just hoping for Bell and Mitchell and the rest would be icing on the cake
^^^ that is the beauty of recruiting, never know what happens, but i agree 100%
@Girth.... keyword in your post, IMO: 'gem'
Wherever he ends up he needs to eat a few cheeseburgers and keep his speed where it is....160? I don't care how fast you are, you're gonna need to at least break some arm tackles at the next level. Could you imagine running full speed and finding your way into John Simons chest weighing only a buck sixty? I wouldnt want this to happen to me and I weigh 180!!!
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
this is the dude that ran a 4.35 so he can definitely fly. he does run away from people and does it with ease. i am just puzzled by the gibson/foster recruitment. this is like beating a dead horse but it seems difficult to get a read on either one of those guys right now, especially foster. this jacobs kid doesnt look to be playing against elite competition but speed is speed, cant be taught. i say we take him and see what happens with the other 2 or 3 guys we are after for wr.
I topped out at 180 this spring, and saw John Simon walking to a party. I didn't want him to tackle me at all, let alone at football speed.
Urban is really going after those small speedy wideouts
If I'm a top shelf offensive skill player recruit, I'm going to sit back and see how well the Ohio State offense meshes in the 2012 season. If Braxton can deliver the ball to his wideouts and the Buckeyes are putting up big yards/big scores, I can see at least a few of these skill players reassessing where Ohio State stands on their lists. I'm guessing Urban plans on impressing recruits with the product he puts on the field, and then he can use that to sell them/flip them to Ohio State in Dec 2012/Jan 2013.
A lot of people think Maryland is the team to beat. I'lll go with them.
Has a burst. Lock him up and move on to lineman.
vacuuming sucks
Another vote for the Terps.
He's a Meyer type player. His speed and wiggle will get utilized somewhere. Looks like a slot reciever/return specialist all the way. His track speed really translates well to the football field, looks like he's in cruise control. Would love to have this kid but there's not a lot of smoke on these boards for a commitment in our favor. Probably staying close to home and going to school with his brother.
He's pretty fast and with decent hands. He's a ballhawk but at 160lbs he will need 25-30lbs to get to a legit safety size and I didn't see him making any tackles in the video. I'm sure that Urban saw something in him because he seems to not rated very well on any recruiting websites. Looks like a project that could be a Punt or Kickoff guy at the very least.
I've been saying this dude is legit for some time. Keep in mind DeAnthony Thomas is about his size as well, and I doubt any one of you guys would turn him down ... I couldn't care less how much he weighs I'm more concerned w/how strong he is. I too think he goes to Maryland though ...
Maryland...take it to the bank

I think if anything we'd take the kid at WR especially with Vonn Bell still on the board and us sitting pretty well with him
There is smoke that he may be a Buckeye (coming from "insiders" from a program that was after him but not in the top 3)...
Would be a bit of a surprise, but Taivon has said that tOSU is a "dream school" and had a past realtionship with Coach Zach Smith. Would fit damn well perfectly in Meyer's offense.
I think if he comes to the good guys then say goodbye to Gibson/Whitfield... the staff will go to Foster/Allen/Quick and say, one spot, who wants it
Cause I couldn't go for three
Thanks @buckinbama i was laughing at the "he'll get hurt" cause of his size posts and Deanthony Thomas (who's small) was one of the first guys I thought about. Closer to home in the Big 10 Shane Wynn (from glenville) played for Indiana as a freshman (and made plays) at around maybe 170/180 range and survived because of?? lets say it together, Speed!! With a College training program of weights and nutrition, Jacobs will be fine wherever he goes..Hopefully a Buck commit.
Looks good to me. Not worried about his size too much but I would think he'll need to put on a few pounds. Kids fast though - damn fast.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
maybe with him joining Diggs they can get to 4 wins/year
It's not like he won't gain weight before he plays, you don't like put undersized kids on the field before they can handle themselves.
I'm with Buck-I.8, not worried about currtent weight, it's not like he lacks any frame. I expect him to play at like 210 or so in the end. It's amazing what D1 weight and conditionign programs can do.
Speaking of Diggs, can you imagine Diggs and Jacobs in a Mike Leach offense?!?! Maryland really sparty'd that one up
Cause I couldn't go for three
How many times do you guys have to be reminded these kids arent even seniors in highschool. I grew 2 inches and gained 30lbs my senior year of highschool and I didnt even play D1 football
I doubt this guy ever gets up to 210lbs ...
Maryland lock. No worries here.
terp...wake me up for fnl or mike mitchell commiting..nothin 2 c here..
agree with southern
Hardly home but always reppin
2014 QB prospect Kyle Allen said Jacobs was the most impressive player to him at a recent camp according to Miles recent blogpost. FWIW
@BuckinBama I weighed ~160 as a Sophmore and graduated college at around 200 (and no beer belly). That is without any sort of weight training. He'll play at 210.
Cause I couldn't go for three
^ How tall we're you? 210 is pretty damn big for a college receiver...don't see him getting there but wherever he ends up I'm sure he'll be ready to play.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
About 6 foot... he may be closer to 200... my main point is that we shouldnt worry about his siize
Cause I couldn't go for three
I'm no doctor, but just judging by the broadness of his shoulders it looks like he doesn't have much room to grow. I could see him putting on another 10-15 pounds, but I could not imagine much more than that. However, a guy like DeSean Jackson (5'10", 175lbs) is not big and I think he's doing alright.
In other news, from what I have read many believe this kid is headed to Maryland, but a couple of quotes I found have me thinking the Bucks have a chance here.
After watching his highlight tape, I would be pretty happy with us using a space for him. Kid is a burner, you can't teach that.
One solid hit and this kid's career is over...I think using a spot for a player that might not survive the first tackling drill is what concerns me...I find myself hoping he goes to Maryland
People who think he can't be good because of his size are just plain ignorant
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
BTW, I was the first to mention in this thread that Taivon would need to bulk up, but I did not mean to imply that he couldn't bulk up. That's Coach Mick's job!
So my friend who is a friend of wr coach smith just said jacobs is a buckeye FWITW. i think he's a big fat liar.
(EDIT, he isn't and you heard it there first!)
Bucknuts front page reporting done deal to buckeyes
Nicholas l Ernst
Somebody at Buckeye Planet just said Bucknuts is saying he's a Buckeye, but we'll find out with 100% certainty soon...
Excellent pickup. I am optimistic about this kid.
Yeah, I've now heard it's official. Welcome, Taivon! His speed is undeniable, and he can be track buddies with Devin Smith (and possibly Devon Allen)! Speaking of track, is Zeke planning to run track at tOSU as well?
alex, mike farrell, brandon castel all saying buckeye..
He's listed as a Buckeye commit on 247.
Size is overrated; Emmitt Smith, Deshawn Jackson, Trent Richardson, Wes Welker, and Barry Sanders have done well in spite of their size.

But can you just imagine what he'll be like after Marotti gets ahold of him? Refer to Michael Thomas.
*edit: Misspelled 'Him'
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Does this mean Gibson is out??? Thoughts ????
Hardly home but always reppin
I don't think Gibson is out per se. But I think there's only one firm WR spot left. After that I would imagine it we will take the best available players - i.e. the players you just don't say no to. If we make the assumption that Lewis and Mitchell are both in, then we sit at 17. 3 spots left. If we assume Munger is 18, 2 spots left. We still have two spots for some real superstars.
Optimistic I like your point, am I wrong for hoping Robert Foster Fills that other WR spot?
Hardly home but always reppin
I love it when somebody says so-and-so is a lock to wherever and they are dead wrong.
One of those spots BETTER be held for Vonn Bell.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
The other thing to consider is that Jacobs is being recruited as an athlete. While it's likely he'll start at WR, he could also support the DB, where he already has experience. So if we miss on Bell, perhaps he's an option at S. I can easily see another 2 WRs in the class, and they will be studs. We have 6 months to be uber-selective.
That's what I was saying looking at his body type he isn't going to get to 210. Now I can see Jalin getting to 210 within 2 years, but this guy is built just like D.Jackson I'm going to have to say those overly concerned w/his size as an 11th grader probably never played football before. To the guy that said he won't survive the 1st tackling drive, that's just a foolish statement!
Nice!
My sources are saying he has a 65% chance of being a Buckeye and whatever is left (35%??) chance of going to Maryland. Watch this one closely, he seems like a good player.
F--- Michigan!
Drew: Taivon has been a Buckeye for over a half hour now. No longer a "65% chance."
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
DeSean Jackson is 5'10', 175. Yeah, he's the exception but I'm optimistic. All reports said that Taivon was awesome at camp. Not worried about this kid's size.
Drew's sources are very conservative
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
There's a 30 percent chance that it's already raining
This kid is your classic camp type player, didn't really flash great numbers in his highschool and doesnt have a great frame on him but when you put him in a camp setting he shows his true potential. I would imagine he walks in to tOSU at around 6'0 170-180 lbs and is considered a legit 4* (not saying that matters) by then
Looks to me like a Jeff Demps/Chris Rainey type player in Urban's offense, and can be used similarly on special teams (for returns or as a specific heat-seeking, punt-blocking missile).
Good pickup and the type of player that has been extremely under-utilized in OSU's recent past.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
He has that long Ted Ginn-type stride to him, and he's also pretty shifty. Watching him run, it looks like he has great vision and directs his blockers. It wasn't like he was a nobody. He had offers from Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, WVU, Michigan State, etc. He looks like he can add some bulk to his frame, as well.
Also, for those worrying about his size - Tedd Ginn came to Columbus at 6'1", 165.
Seems like a solid pickup. I am sure UFM saw something in him, and it sounds like he is doing really well on the camp circuit.
Surprised on this one as I hadn't heard a lot about him. We do need a few WR's so if the staff liked him I am happy. Need a couple more WR's and a LB'er and OT. Solid all around class so far.
I trust Coach Meyer and his staff.
Because I couldn't go for three. -Woody-

Interview he did on why he picked OSU
This should mean a lot, considering the staff didn't give committables to quite a few higher ranked players
BUCK-I.8 which players are you referring to?
My sources were right! I just got news that he is a BUCKEYE!
F--- Michigan!
Drew: You're a pretty lame troll.

@MJB Adrian Baker and the like
I don't remember Teddy Ginn being an awful college player, and he looked like he hadn't eaten for about six years.
Welcome to the Buckeyes Taivon.
The kid is a burner that can take it to the house anytime he touches the ball in any context. He reads the play well as a safety, but honestly if all he does is return punts and kicks he's worth the schollie. We have a lot of talent, but we haven't found a true game-break-at-any-moment player since Ted Ginn. Hopefully this guy can be it.
I am not a troll 703BUCKEYE.
On another note, if you guys do not want info from my very reliable sources then fine.
F--- Michigan!
Drew, want me to stop calling you a troll? Report something BEFORE it happens.
