According to Cam Burrows twitter, Mike McCray has finally gotten his offer from Urban and Ohio State.
S/O to my dude @BIGPLAYMCCRAY_9 for just getting an offer from The Ohio State University #BuckeyeNation show him love
— Cam Burrows (@CB2ERA) May 25, 2012

Fixed the embedded tweet...
He's the one guy I think has a chance to flip. Dymonte is solid blue, but McCray committed to Michigan partly out of spite, hopefully that spite is gone and he comes over to the good guys
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Like some "you're our back-up plan because we haven't gotten who we really wanted" kind of love?
Sorry, still bitter McCray didn't get offered much much earlier, given his talent and his legacy status.
A part of me doesn't expect McCray to budge, but I guess we'll see.
I dont expect him too. But he has the best shot given his legacy and relationship with Cam Burrows
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I hear ya Triv, but I remain skeptical that he'll flip.
I think he really wanted to be a Buckeye but not having an offer and Michigan showing him love steered him to AA. This very well could be too little, too late.
I wonder too if his dad is a little bitter that OSU didn't go after him sooner.
Cant wait to see Shane Morris eating dirt againt our defense.
My question is....why now? Why wasn't he offered sooner?
Sounds like him and Morris are in a relationship so I doubt they would go to seperate schools...
Shane Morris is sounding more and more like a jag off (i.e.) Mike Hart. Can't wait until his first taste of the greatest rivalry in all sports next year. That taste will be a quarterback sandwich of Spence and Washington!!! Go Bucks!!
scUM - "Those who stay, will NOT be champions!"
@Jason,
He was a backup plan, probably could still get him. It's a long time to NSD. I assume OSU saw the writing on the wall with Jaylon.
That conversation between Morris and McCray is hysterical.
Their bromance is cute...Urban, knock it off. Clearly, as most of you have said, definitely the most likely of candidates to flip, but I feel good that he's staying put.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
Those two are so cute. When are they gonna make it facebook official?
I wonder if McCray will even visit.
I would say yes, but he'll play it off as casually there with Burrows. If he makes a "Visit," he's foregoing his commitment to Michigan. Hoke has a no tolerance, post-commitment visit policy.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
I think McCray's blatant misspelling of "wolverine" indicates that he's not happy with his decision
Urban has said in the past that he would ask the recruit if they were interested in OSU before offering. McCray must have shown some interest.
Yeah, because I believe everything Urban says...
The man is bursting with integrity. Maybe after being here 7 months, you guys do, but he seems like a sly wolf sneaking into the hen house.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
Now, now Hail. No sarcasm!
@Hail....man you've been so good lately, but there you go making inflammatory comments again that you know that any good tOSU fan is going to wish you weren't on here....doesn't make me angry but....not everyone on here is going to take those comments in stride....
And now Hail shows his true colors. I love how everyone defends the scUM fans on this site, but I will not be one of those people. They may feign tolerance and humility but it all creeps out eventually.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
I still don't get why anyone thinks that Urban is any more sly than anyone else. He has been incredibly straightforward with the media. I don't know why people think he is sneaky or lacks integrity.
And Brady Hoke is still fat.
Agreed, even though Hail can speak his mind as much as he wishes....Brady Hoke is still fat.
Yessir! I really don't care either way about McCray, I think he'll probably stick to UM but it's a long way to NSD.
Burrows better work him like its his job! That is the only way he ends up at OSU.
What's wrong with Hail's comment? 99% of what he posts is fair and objective...he's entitled to have different opinions from time to time. He's not the only one who has those feelings towards Urban and it's not just UM fans either. Fair or not, Urban has made a few enemies. I'm snot saying I agree with what he said, just take a deep breath before slamming his opinion.
@ Gray - you should prob be a little more understanding towards other fanbases seeing as we have a reputation(thanks to the vocal minority) for being what you claim to dislike.
I'm going to agree with Cincy on the second point.
jugdish, i remember reading an article about kalish last year a month or two before NSD. from what I read and remember, urban doesn't ask kids if they're interested BEFORE he offers, because frequently a recruit's interest picks up after he receives an offer. what he does do is ask them of their interest level when he speaks to them. if they ask him to stop contacting them because they're not interested, he does. last year, when he flipped schutt and secured spence, along with a few others, he didn't harrass those not interested, but went after those who were as hard as he could. the results spoke for themselves
that having been said, i still don't think mccray flips. michigan's class has come together so quickly and so early that a lot of these guys have had A LOT of time to develop relationships at camps, unofficial visits, and over facebook/twitter. they seem like a pretty tight knit group, as does our class
If Urban wants to go after McCray he has every right to. Who cares if he (McCray) showed interest or not? McCray isnt the property of Michigan athletics so he is fair game. Just about every big time coach in the country has or will do something that can be conveyed as sneaky in some form or another. People from other schools dislike Urban for plenty of reasons, but in my opinion the biggest reason is the fact that he is coaching at OSU and not said fans school. The guy has won everywhere he has been. I graduated from BG and that is obviously where his career started. He has not just won, but dominated at every program he has run. Michigan fan can come off as very confident in Hoke and his ability to coach and run a successful program, but they would be flat out lying if they wouldnt take him (Urban) over The Hut in a second. Oh and Michigan still sucks.
Just to clear up any doubts, I respect urban, but I dont like him. Which is more than I can say for those who call him fat. I think urban is a "whatever it takes" kind of business man. I don't believe everything ANY coach says to the media, and that goes for hoke, too (but some more than others). Urban is great at what he does. I'm just saying I take it with a grain of salt.
My true Colors will always be maize and blue and my loyalty for michigan will never cease.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
I think he knows he's not getting Anzalone or Smith. I bet McCray ends up in this class.
I can respect that Hail, as I will be rocking the scarlet and gray, which is a better color combo IMO.
I think you mean your true colors are Sun and Blue
Definitely Sun and Blue, thanks for clarifying Hail!
@Hail... don't you mean Sun and Blue?
-The Aristocrats!
The more I hear I don't see Big Play Mccray being a Buckeye. What gets me frustrated is that if we just offered him earlier we would have gotten him no problem. Urban recruiting mistake #1 of many I'm sure. What ever happen to Kimbrough? I like this kid and don't see why he couldn't play in this style defense.
I was one of the first people on here who said that if you guys were to offer Mccray, I would not be surprised if he was to flip. I still believe that, but not as much.
With that said, Mccray has built quite the relationship with a lot of the Michigan commits. This is the tightest knit group of commits that I can remember. Mainly, because of the ring leader; Shane Morris. In March, when he committed if you guys offered him, I would say there was seventy percent chance he would flip. Now, I would say it is about 30 or 35 percent. Again, I will not be surprised if it happens, definitely will not happen now if it does though. This is something that would transpire late in the game. (January or so)
About Meyer, I never believed that he or any coach would ever stop recruiting a kid if he told them not too. Especially, when it is a kid that is committed to Michigan. He called Kalis multiple times last year, when Kalis told him he was going to Michigan multiple times. That is all just coach speak and to make it seem like you have some form of integrity. No such thing in this business, recruiting is a cut-throat deal and you are going after whatever you need to win. Unfortunately, for you guys I think low balling Mccray MIGHT of cost you.
I don't understand this offer. Where is McCray gonna play? He will outgrow LB and not good enough for d-line. Even with Anzalone & Smith heading elsewhere, I don't understand the need to offer McCray when we're in on some BIG time guys in '14. The only reason I can think of is to keep the Trotwood people happy (Burrows/Douglas).
This one is a massive head-scratcher. Kalis I could see because we were in desperate need of o-linemen. IMO, I just hope McCray doesn't waste a spot in our class.
(BTW, sorry for being so blunt, but that's how I feel about this offer and always felt this way since day 1.)
i'm not so sure about that. you definitely make some good points, but i'm sure urban isn't just throwing out offers, especially with osu being in on some bigtime 2014 recruits. he will have time to work on them instead of playing catch-up as far as relationship building goes. i trust that urban knows exactly what he wants, and even though mccray is a back up plan, he has potential to be a good lb. at least that's what a lot of college coaches and scouts think.
he is a bigger lb right now, but you don't know that he'll necessarily outgrow the lb position. there are some of 6'3"-6'4" 250lbers out there. maybe not a lot, but definitely some. dont'a hightower comes to mind. obviously not exactly what urban wants, but probably very effective defensively in the B1G, where people like to line up and run right at you a lot. and while he might not be good enough right now to play DE, potentially being 6'4" 260 lbs in the future he might be good enough.
Unfortunately this offer reeks of desperation. We missed on Anzalone, Love & Smith so we're finally extending an offer to a very talented legacy. This was a mistake right from the start - not offering this kid way back when. Can't speak for others but I know I'm not happy feeling like sloppy seconds & I doubt he signs out of sheer spite...too bad. Good news is we're pretty damn loaded at LB after last years class.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
There are 3 LBs in the early top 100 for 2014 from Ohio, Clifton Garrett is an OSU fan, and Raekwon McMillan clearly loves OSU. We'll porbably take three LBs next year, and we have a talented crop to choose from. With Shazier and Curtis Grant still young, and Perkins and Jamal Marcus up and coming, I don't even want McCray in this class, as an afterthought offer
@Poison ... I do agree. This offer really seems like desperation. We've missed on A.Anzalone, J.Smith, and L.Neal. So now we throw this offer out there. When watching tape of M.Mccray he isn't a smooth, nor explosive athlete like the other LBs we're bringing in, or have been going after. I don't really think its possible to "outgrow" the LB position, but it is possible to become too slow for it. C.Upshaw, and D.Hightower for Bama were both huge, as well is R.McClain before them, but he doesn't have the explosiveness of any of those players. A guy I would love to see offered is Devaris Brunson out of South Carolina, but I think his grades are the problem. C.Garrett is actually my favorite LB prospect of '14 he just EXPLODES into the ball carrier.
I wonder if Morris and Mcray are going to pinky swear on their commitments right before they blow each other.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
^Really not appropriate.
@crusher:
That is a great way to lure a kid in that you just offered. Hope I see more comments like that.
Seriously though, this is obviously a last resort kind of thing. Interesting thing is, do you possibly see some wrong in focusing on some national prospects first?
Personally and I know a lot of darn good coaches believe this too, I would want to lock down my elite talent in the state before recruiting nationally. Tressel followed that recipe and won a national championship.
@Rational- Tressel never won a national championship with his recruiting method in place. He inherited most of the players that won in 2002.
I for one am more than fine with Meyer aiming his sights nationally. I don't care where the kids come from. As long as they have the right players in place to compete for a title, I'm A-ok. This offer definitely seems like a "we struck out on plan A, B and C" deal. I was never upset that this kid went elsewhere and don't execpt him to come running back.
"Love my State, hate the football"
You are right he never won a national championship with that recruiting method, but he had a great amount of success following it. I do not care what any of you say, going to two national championships despite the losses is pretty good. (FWIW if the LSU game was played somewhere else I think its a little closer)
What I don't get is; Ohio is a hot bed for high school football and Meyer seems to place it on the back burner to go into places like North Carolina, Arizona, Virginia etc, Which do not compare to Ohio with overall talent. Sure Florida, California are good places to go get talent from, but you are gonna strike out more times than often when you are trying to recruit a kid to the North.
@crusher - WEAK.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
Not sure why people say that Meyer puts Ohio on the back burner. Half of this recruiting class is from Ohio as of now.
On another note, I talked to my friend that works at a local TV station in Dayton last night. He is a pretty avid follower of buckeye football and recruiting. This is what he said to me:
"You hear about that Trotwood LB that might be coming over to the good guys? I talked to the Trotwood head coach earlier today, and he said 'things are about to get interesting...' You know his dad played ball at OSU, right?"
It's only May. Over 8 months to 2013 signing day. McCray has the offer to stay home, play with teammate Cam Burrows, and play where his Dad played. Ohio State is where dreams come true.
So make the dream come true.
Urban screwed this one up. McCray is going to Michigan a late willl just piss him off more.
I just don't get this offer. A great LB class last year with the potential for an unreal one next year. Meyer says that he's very concerned about playmakers and the O-line, so why not extend an offer to one of those types of players? I think McCray would've been a great fit if Tress was still coaching, but he doesn't seem like the type of player meyer usually goes after (he doesn't seem that fast). Obviously Meyer knows better than I do, but it's just a confusing one to me.
@rational: Meyer goes after national players instead of relying almost solely on Ohio kids because he knows what Tressel found out after the debacle against Florida...which is that you can't compete with the national powers with only Ohio kids. Look at Tressel's classes after that Florida game versus before it. You will see that he went from about 80% Ohio kids before to about 55% after that game. Ohio has a lot of high school talent, but only has a couple nationally elite players each year. That is not enough to compete with the Alabamas (which you will find out in a couple months) and LSU's, who are signing multiple elite prospects every year. Also, I highly doubt a recruit is going to base any part of his college choice on stupid comments on recruiting message boards. If you believe it is a factor, you are probably friends with the losers who are texting/tweeting/stalking these kids.
As far as McCray is concerned, Michigan is the best place for him in my opinion. He is a better fit for their system than OSU's and he will have an easier time getting on the field. With the 2012 LB class and the potential 2014 class, I just don't see the point in going after a 2nd tier guy just to fill a spot in this class. I would prefer that they go for a home run in Smith or Anzalone, and if you miss, so be it because the only way a recruit in this class will ever crack the starting lineup in their time here is if they are an elite talent, which I don't see McCray as being.
Why is everyone saying we missed out on Anzalone? Alex (from here) said that he's talked to Anzalone and thinks that we're still in the lead.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
@Badowl - I'd like Alex to weigh in on this but if would but all indications from my little bit of reading are that AA is at the very least exploring every option other than tOSU. Unfortunately after the whole situation went down - it looks like that ship may have sailed...
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
@Ausmos, you hit on a very good point - McCray is a better fit for Michigan's system. Look at the success Jake Ryan has had as a bigger guy off the edge. It's sort of a DE/LB hybrid spot - and it's perfect for McCray
Agreed, but I'm not sure I agree that McCray will see playing time earlier at Michigan... let's not forget they had probably the top LB class in the country in 2012... 4 top 25 LBs. And do we have ablind spot on the LBs we've missed out on this year... don't forget Gedeon.
Seriously, why not Tim Kimbrough?

Honestly, who cares what Tillman does. Let it go.
If they offered earlier on...this flip BS wouldn't be a factor. IMO he stays ttun unless Cam can pull some strings. Urban's kinda late now...legacy or not. We'll see I suppose

I hope McCray doesn't flip, but I do like that he got the OSU offer.
Also, I do think UM's "maize" has morphed into a brighter shade of yellow. So why not call it sun? Remindes me of TSUN. Kinda funny if you think about it.
Now what about OSU? Hasn't your "gray" become silver?
The difference is Nike doesn't own our heritage. Sun and Blue it is.
yep but no shades of yellow
O H I O is the Buckeye State
I wouldnt mind McCray coming on board, he reminds me of a Brian Rolle who I love but when Jaylon Smith commits to the good guys all these comments will become irrelevent. Urban Meyer will surprise us, this class will be mind-blowing. Theres still that mystical vibe with UFM, im not just saying this cuz Im a buckeye fan but I think we will only lose 1 game this year, possibly none. Our schedule is a cake-walk. Nobody on our schedule scares me.
Really weird that Urban has offered McCray as some posters on here have said with the limited number of scholarships Urban can only offer "the best of the best".
When you miss on "the best of the best", it's time to offer "the best of the rest"
I still don't understand the offer. I think Mccray is behind all the LB's we were after this year, and I'd say he is also behind the LB's we are after for '14. I know UFM knows what he is doing so I'm going with it. If he wants him then so do I.
Buck 1.8 I wouldn't so hard on yourselves. I doubt they even missed, I mean did they even really have committable offers?
If you're gonna try to troll this site about committable offers, at least understand what you are saying. The 2 LB we missed on were Lewis Neal and Anzalone. Given that both of them committed at one point, your comment is invalid. Go troll somewhere else. We don't mind rational or hail but you provide nothing to this site
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
^^^Was thinking the same thing after I read his last reply^^^
I was being sarcastic, I know that they were committable offers. If you've read any of my other posts I've never trolled. Today, just having a little fun with Buck1.8 reply. I'm done now.
Guys, he wasn't talking about committable offers, read the post again. He referred to "comity able" offers, whatever those are.
