Five-star 2027 quarterback Brady Edmunds commits to Ohio State.
Another Buckeye is headed to Cincinnati.
Three days after former Ohio State running back Evan Pryor announced his commitment to the Bearcats, former OSU safety Kye Stokes announced Saturday that he will transfer to Cincinnati.
By transferring to Cincinnati, Stokes joins a secondary led by former Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs, who helped recruit Stokes to become a Buckeye before his departure from the staff after the 2021 season.
Stokes, who brings three years of eligibility to Cincinnati, showed big promise during his first spring as a Buckeye in 2022 when he was the first member of his recruiting class to lose his black stripe and had a standout spring game performance. Stokes proved unable to build on that performance, however, as he played just 83 defensive snaps as a true freshman before playing only 10 snaps this year. His role going forward with the Buckeyes was unclear after he was surpassed on the depth chart this season by true freshman Malik Hartford.
He becomes the fourth Buckeye in the portal to transfer to a new school, joining Pryor, Chip Trayanum (Kentucky) and Ryan Turner (Boston College).
Former Buckeyes still in the portal include quarterback Kyle McCord, wide receiver Julian Fleming, tight end Joe Royer, centers Victor Cutler Jr. and Jakob James, defensive end Omari Abor, linebacker Reid Carrico, cornerback Jyaire Brown, safety Cameron Martinez and kicker Parker Lewis.
