Ryan Turner is transferring to Boston College.

The former Ohio State defensive back announced his commitment on Friday to BC, where he’ll play for former Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.

A four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class, Turner considered Boston College as a high school recruit after the Eagles were one of the first schools to offer him. Instead, Turner signed with Ohio State, where he spent two years before entering the transfer portal earlier this month.

Turner played only sparingly in his two seasons with the Buckeyes, taking a redshirt as a true freshman before appearing in just two games as a backup nickel this season.

Hafley never coached Turner at Ohio State, as Hafley was only Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach for one year in 2019, but it isn’t the first time he’s brought in an Ohio State transfer since becoming Boston College’s head coach in 2020. Former Ohio State wide receiver Jaelen Gill transferred from Ohio State to Boston College in Hafley’s first year in Chestnut Hill, spending three years with the Eagles before transferring again to Fresno State for his final collegiate season this year.

Hafley’s staff at Boston College also includes several former Ohio State staffers, including Boston College assistant director of recruiting Kellyn Gerenstein, who was a recruiting intern for the Buckeyes in 2022, Turner’s first year at Ohio State.

Turner becomes the third Ohio State transfer to land at a new school since the portal opened. Chip Trayanum is transferring to Kentucky while fellow former Ohio State running back Evan Pryor committed to Cincinnati.

Former Buckeyes still in the portal include quarterback Kyle McCord, wide receiver Julian Fleming, centers Victor Cutler Jr. and Jakob James, defensive end Omari Abor, linebacker Reid Carrico, cornerback Jyaire Brown, safeties Cameron Martinez and Kye Stokes and kicker Parker Lewis.
