Rumblings coming out now that the new Big Ten divisions could be split by time zone - central and east. In that case, EIGHT teams would be in the east, and six in the central. So, just move Indiana or Purdue over to the central, who cares?

But how can they break up the Hoosiers/Boilers rivlary??

What's the source of these rumblings?
Edit: he updated his original post with the link.
So much for competitive balance.
Yeah, the other division is basically Nebraska and the others.
No different than the BIG 12 North...lol.
The problem is that the rumors about expansion only include schools to the East (or south east). As soon as 2 more teams come in, the alignment will be shifted again.
Aside from that, it could be worse. I would like to see Michigan get Nebraska and Minnesota as a protected rival and just rotate amongst the rest of the West. OSU could do the same with Illinois and Wisconsin.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Anybody who can figure out Indiana's time zones is a genius IMO.

I believe they got rid of the craziness and now everyone does the daylight savings thing.
Not Arizona
Indiana has observed Daylight Savings Time since 2006. It's exactly the same as Ohio except for the Chicago (extreme northwest) and Evansville (extreme southwest) areas which are on Central Time.
Purdue is two counties away from Central Time, fwiw.

The best part of that article is the Iowa, Northwestern and Rutgers fans in the comments fighting about who has the best football team. That fight's a lot like two 3 year olds in bubblewrap having a good old-fashioned wrestle. Which is coincidentally how I think they'll determine the winner of the West division each year if this realignment goes through.
Lol

As a person who has admired OSU's program since the day I started watching college football, I am glad you guys and Michigan are back in the same divison....too much history and hate not to be.
For Nebraska, this works out well. Can't expect Wisconsin to be as good as they were the two seasons prior to last season (I am a native of this state so I know how that program goes). We should be able to make it to the conference title game on a regular basis.
If they expand and a team like Florida State enters I would like to see them join the "West."
PU goes west and IU stays east this is the perfect alignment.Rutgers,Mary Land, Ped. St.,TOSU, TSUN, TSUN St.and IU this is perfection. Then if BC and Pitt join , and I think they will, just kick TSUN St., and IU west.Viola, dune deal.GO BUCKS!
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
My vote goes towards MSU moving west, not that I have a huge say in how it ultimately works out. As it stands in the article, the eastern division would have two elite (OSU & UM) and two strong (PSU & MSU) CFB programs vs just three strong (Neb, UW, & Iowa) programs in the west.
PSU would balance it out if they west. With the sanctions PSU may not qualify as elite anymore, but they're still a solid program and could be great again after the sanctions are over. But they're too far east and it wouldn't make sense to move them west when the conference finally added some natural rivals for them.
Michigan and OSU NEED to be in the same division. I don't want a rematch in the same season in the CCG. Splitting them was one of the worst decisions the B1G made with the formation of the divisions. They need to rectify this by putting them back together like they deserve. So they're out.
MSU is the default option in this case. The B1G could make the MSU-UM rivalry a protected crossover game. Of the four schools who could balance the power of the divisions, they're actually the closest to the western teams.
Great points. At first glance it makes sense to split MSU and UM. The problem with that model would be that the two Michigan schools could consistently have harder schedules than their division counterparts. At least with MSU in the east, everyone in the east has to play MSU. God help us all if we ever get to a point where the two Indiana schools are at a disadvantage due to their yearly crossover.
As much as I hate to admit it, when I look at the proposed conferences I cannot help think how nice it would be to have ND round out that western conference. At the same time, I suspect if ND was to ever join they would want no part of being in the west.
Move Purdue, please.
please move purdue. I don't want Purdue Harbor every other year. But ya, the competitive balance is a little off-whack.
