Miles has confirmed that Massilon (OH) ATH Gareon Conley has decommited from Michigan.
Conley the has ability to play WR and DB. Gareon also told Miles that he will be taking an official to Ohio State, but not Oregon.
At this point, you have to like Ohio State's chances a lot if the situation remains this way.

Don't know where I read this, but heard he was on back burner at Oregon, who is recruiting a safety higher on their board.
Colin Cowherd had on his morning show that he believes Chip Kelly leaving Oregon to go the NFL. May make some prospective recruits jump ship or not consider the Ducks.

He'd be a pretty tall corner, something I feel must be trending with bigger, more physical wide outs. Does he have a preference on where he'd like to play?
This is hearsay so take it with a grain of salt, but I've heard from a former Massillon player and teammate of Conley's that Coach Meyer told Gareon he could play any position he likes at Ohio State. The former teammate was under the impression Conley wants to play on the offensive side of the ball.
Makes sense if he's a big guy. Seems like we've been targeting a lot of smaller speedsters. Barring Quick and Gibson's commitment, it'll be nice to have a bigger wideout who can catch passes over the middle.
If I recall he got some serious postseason recognition on the offensive side of the ball, no?

I'm not up to speed about Gareon Conley as an athlete; I'm aware of him because of his lingering commitment/decommitment with TSUN. I recognize that high school recruits are young and may make premature decisions, but I don't like the prospects of a kid in the program who rocks the boat during recruitment. See Seantrel Henderson. I'm not saying this is anything like Henderson's national recruitment, but early probems breed later problems.
Conley doesn't strike me as someone who is trying to cause drama or just get his name out there. It seems like he is genuinely not sure if he made the right decision for himself, and just needs a little time to figure things out.

Supposedly he has been told he will get to play wherever he wants.
The word is that Conley wants to play WR. Urban's pitch is that he can play on either side of the ball, while Michigan prefers him at corner. Haven't heard if Michigan was giving him the same opportunity at WR.
His decommitment has been the expected outcome for a while, but how he has gotten here is quite strange. As the story goes, he visited The Game as a fan and did not speak to any tOSU coaches, players or recruits supposedly, left early, and then stated last night he was 100% committed to Michigan (this was a surprise). Coach Mattison supposedly visited his school today and post visit, Conley has now stated he is decommitted. Unfortunately coaches can't comment on recruits, but it would be highly interesting to know how that conversation went. Did Mattison tell Conley that Michigan considers him a decommit, but based on his honesty concerning visits will still recruit him?
Most recent word has Conley taking officials to Michigan, tOSU, and Cincinnati. If this is true, did Michigan's coaches encourage this direction? Inquiring minds would love to know. This has been a very strange recruitment indeed.

Normaly I might agree with you but Conley has purposely stayed away from the recruiting spotlight up to this point.
Conley definitely does have a difficult situation behind the scenes. His father is a lifelong Michigan fan and loves Michigan for him while his Mom (some say stepmom, so I'm not sure which) has been a big pusher for Oregon because she has family there. tOSU is obviously a player because being from Ohio, it has been one of his favorite teams growing up.
hmmm interesting. wasn't aware of his dad w/ the michigan thing. Isn't he from Canton McKinley? Isnt' that where Devin Smith went? they would have played together in high school if this is correct. I can see why this would be a VERY difficult decision for a young man under these circumstances...

Out of those 6: Still could be work left to do for Quick. A recruit so loyal to his city is hard to be considered a lock. Gibson has to qualify.
If Vonn Bell wants in, they take him. The class can probably get to 24 or 25 if they are the right ones. At 17 now I believe.

Do you guys think we could be seeing the rise and fall of Brady Hoke? Hoke has shown that he rather stand on the sideline watch the game instead of coach. I wouldn't be surprised if Shane Morris leaves to start somewhere else when he hears Gardner is going to be there a couple of years. Just like Dick Rod the recruits are leaving to go to schools who show that they can win championships. And so far Hoke has shown that he will settle for mediocre football and not winning a championship
I keep hearing people say Morris will most likely red-shirt next year, so really he'd only be sitting behind Gardner for a year. That is assuming Gardner gets his medical red-shirt and assuming Morris beats out Bellomy.

As a side note, I don't think decommits are as worrisome as they used to be. It is becoming quite common practice for recruits to decommit these days. Probably because decisions are being made earlier and earlier. So far Michigan has had 2 this cycle, but so has tOSU. In fact most of the powerhouse programs have had decommits, including Alabama, USC, etc. It is just a sign of the times.

Hoke is in his second year. His first full recruiting class are freshman, and he won a BCS bowl with Rich Rod's recruits. I'd say it's a little premature to say he's falling.
This would be good trivia... who were the Rich Rod QB commits/de-commits during that magical season (I'm thinking it was the season of Nick Sheridan).

Yeah Bluebayou informed me a bit better. I made an ASSumption and as you can tell by my score on that one...FAIL! haha. I knew he had a family connection to Oregon through his mom(?) but i wasn't aware his dad was/is a big michigan fan. All disclosure, that's a tough decision to make for a young man.
I am surprised (and here i go making ASSumptions again) that Oregon seems to be going a little cold on this one. That's a tough program to go against. Example, last year i thought we'd get Adolphus and his friend/teammate, can't remember name, but he chose Oregon over tOSU.

Players commit to early these days. Scum had most of there class filled by summer. Next year they are limited for recruits. Fat boy took 50 players last 2 years.

I believe the brief visit was designed so it didnt seem like he was there to cheer on tOSU while technically still committed to scUM which is a tough situation. The bigger question I will want to see is who has the better career Dymonte or Gareon? Will def follow that closely for the next few years should be fun.

The good news is that we are taking a Michigan Commit, however we have great corners in this class already, as well as great athletes on the offensive side therefore I am not sure that Conley is a huge need at this time, however in Urbs we trust. I hope this kid comes to TOSU and tears it up.

Roby leaves & We dont land Conley or go after another CB for '13 class our current CB's will be:
Doran Grant, Armani Reeves, Cameron Burrows, Eli Woodard, Najee Murray.
Tyvis Powell has stated that he wants and can play corner. The other Corey Brown could play corner also I guess, but still dosnt leave enough depth. Other than Grant, Id say we dont have any other proven CBs, even though I see Burrows & Woodard coming right in & getting solid PT, but they still dont have any experience or anything. Dont forget Burrows could move to Safety leaving us even thinner than what we would be if Roby left & we didnt land COnley or another CB for '13.
Cornerback IS a position of need as far as Im concerned.

There is a need at CB. Roby will be gone now or after next year, and Howard graduates this year. Other than that, who is there? Doran Grant. Armani Reeves. No other big names on roster. And Cam Burrows could be a safety.

You are right not a lot of big names currently on the roster, I guess I was thinking within this class we already had Eli woodard and Cam but if Cam moves to safet,y corner would be a need for the class, not to mention the need for depth in general... thanks for kicking my arss on that one :-)

To my knowledge Najee Murray hasn't claimed a full game's reps yet of big time college football.
To my knowledge Eli Woodard hasn't even stepped on campus to start his career at OSU.
After next season Roby and Howard will both be gone and only guy that has shown even a little bit of worth at the position is Doran Grant. Depth at CB isn't exactly strong at the moment.
And Grant didn't exactly dazzle in the PT that he did get. Made some great plays in the start he got in Roby's absence, but to be sure, it's the plays that you don't make that mean more than the ones you do.
I totally agree with you, Derek. We need depth at CB. I mentioned Najee and Woodard since you had mentioned Reeves and Burrows (possibly moving to S).
We seem to be in same position at CB for next year as we found ourselves in this past year at LB. Young talent, but thin, thin, thin in depth. Really need Roby to stay (think it would be good for him, too) for stability as well as dynamic play. If he stays, we have he and Grant starting. I like that combo with Murray, Reeves, and frosh battling for PT.
Have Urban Meyer and Mike Vrabel visited Colnely. There suppose to be 2 visits today.
