Who will be the next Mike Hart?

Oh Mike Hart.  We all remember you so fondly. Whether it was the "Little Brother" comments that led to what some called "The Curse of Mike Hart" (Sparty had lost six straight prior to their four game win streak), the comments against our Buckeyes, or any number of other ridiculous comments that led the normally mild mannered folks at BSD to say "Hey Mike Hart... SHUT UP!" - the diminutive UM tailback has certainly been missed for his inflammatory comments leading to win streaks unpresedented in recent times by M!ch!g@n rival schools.

Will it be Shane Morris?

Okay so I say that Michigan finds some scrub kids that want to go to Ohio and we offer them! So Ohio will offer them then they will commit.

Kyle Kalis for his "I'm going to make Ohio bleed like my backne" comments (quick side note Kyle, our jerseys are already "drenched" in red)? Erik "Whip that ass" Magnuson?

Dymonte perhaps?

My mom won Ohio State stuff at an auction at her work today. Im glad she did bc I didnt have anything else to wipe my butt with.

Side note, not sure we want to flip that kid at this point.

Maybe Ondre Pipkins?

"We're going to see them Nov. 24 at that shoe. In the next couple years, we'll see them at the Big House, but it's just going to be like it was last year."...."I gave a little bit to what's his name, (Ohio State offensive line recruit Kyle) Dodson," Pipkins said. "He ran away from me. That's what they do. They run their mouth, and then when they meet up with the belly of the beast -- I call myself that because I am -- then they want run away. When it comes to reality, they want to run away."

I find it somewhat interesting that after our loss at the post game presser, the players recruited by Rodriguez managed to keep their comments pretty kosher, with the exception of the rare annoying "Ohio" reference. Aaaaaand I spoke too soon. Mr. Molk, if you would.

It also pisses Molk off that another Big Ten center, Ohio State’s Mike Brewster, is ranked ahead of him in many draft rankings.

“He is nowhere near me as a player,” Molk said of Brewster.

If there’s an NFL team out there wanting a center who’s strong in the weight room and cocky off the field, Molk is your man.

For the record, most have him the fourth best center prospect, behind Brewster. Or fifth. Or sixth. But there's lots of stupid people out there, right David?

It's almost an embarrasment of riches at M!ch!g@n these days.

Where in the Carr years, they (and we!) were lucky to have one Mike Hart, and in the Rich Rod years, none I can think of at all, now its like the whole roster wants to claim a shot at the title. I guess it all starts at the top, with a coach who deplores the color red except well when the missus picks out a tie that day (or school picture day!) or hey it's under a windbreaker or something as it burns his skin no one wears red in my facilities OhiO AAaaaaHHhhhhhHH! Finally I realize why we lost to M!ch!g@n this year. Luke's game day attire is clearly a sign of his abject hatred for all that is Ohio State and a longing to coach at M!ch!g@n. But I digress.

I do not in any way claim to be a UM coaching expert. However, Lloyd Carr by most accounts seemed like a classy guy who would deal with knuckleheads. Even Rich Rod wasn't too bad, Practicegate aside and the sale of snake oils aside. Yes, Rich Rodriguez, that lover lover of Groban and Navy Seals, and who's players you know appreciated what the guy was doing, W/L records be damned. Hoke seems to have dropped the ball a bit on what I would assume a "Michigan Man" should be. Perhaps he is just playing up to a larger demographic of his fan base, but you would think he would police the bulletin board material a little better at least. Red meat to the fan base aside. MMmmm, meat

Of course, I'm perfectly fine with all of this and frankly look forwards to finding out who the next Hart. Who do you think it is going to be? Morris? One of the OLineman? Pipkins? Dymonte? A player to be named later? Or are we looking at a Hart by committee approach? Will any of them make it to the top of the trash talk ranks, or simply "Pull a Hart"? I personally can't wait to find out who our next Hart will be, if for no other reason than we might get a rehash of my favorite Mike Hart quote.

"We didn't think we were going to be this bad off."

Obviously Hart was at Michigan when he jawed, as for the rest, I don't think any were signed when they said those things (molk, Rimington award winner, has played his final game as a wolverine, of course). I read somewhere that Hoke is putting an end to the chatter on day 1 of being an official Wolverine. Who knows? I personally enjoy the bb material.

For clarification: it's the richrod curse, not mike hart.

I think Shane Morris's comments seemed the most douchey. He's pretty much saying that kids rated just as highly nationally, if not higher, than him are "scrubs." And you have to feel bad for Kalis, since he's going to spend the next four years eating his words, wishing he hadn't been so short-sighted to decommit. You know he'll hear about that all the time, on Twitter/Facebook, etc.

I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.

@Hail, i'll say this. it will be interesting to see what your offense looks like once Denard is gone. if i recall correctly, Hoke wants a pro style, which you started to do beginning of the season, then in the Notre Dame game, when it was clear it wasnt working, it all went back to the Denard show.

now, i realize those are Richrod players, so "they arnt pro style players" but in my opinion, if you are good enough to be a D1 major program player, you should be able to adjust your play to fit any system...ignorant on my part, maybe. but its my opinion.

you have shane morris coming in who is a true passer, which will help, and looks like some big OL recruits coming, which are always critical for any offense. We arnt changing our system as much as many believe, in fact, it seems like Urbans offense will take advantage of the players we already have on the roster, and utilize them to their full potential.

I know this doesnt really have much to do with the michigan fans attitudes but i think its food for thought, and possibly a reality check

buckeyefan927's picture
buckeyefan927 on 1 Mar 2012 - 12:53am #

So why does Morris want to offer kids that want to go to Ohio University, so that they will end up offering them and then they'll commit? Why should they lower their standards to people the Bobcats would go after?

hail2victors9's picture
hail2victors9 on 1 Mar 2012 - 2:01am #

@dancarona

Your points are valid. Denard's skill set required Borges to tweak the offense. After starting the season trying to run a majority pro style, he gave it up and started to let denard be denard. The last 3 our 4 games it was evident that the offense was clicking and denard had a better understanding of the offense. Next season, I expect higher efficiency out of denard simply having a year to digest the new style.

It's not that the richrod players can't adjust, just built differently than what this offense calls for (5'10" receivers, 285 lb o linemen, etc). Guys that thrived in the spread (roundtree), saw their production drop, while others stepped up (hemingway).

Sugar Shane is going to be exciting, but don't count out devin gardner. He was the number 1 dual qb in his class and is a much better passer than denard. He reminds me of troy smith, but taller.

@Hail

I think what is most annoying about what these kids are saying, and the cause of the actual thread, is the depth of the trash that these "recruits" are talking. It's one thing to say "We're gonna beat OSU, go BLUE!" etc and vice versa from OSU guys, but when kids, who mind you haven't even stepped onto campus yet, go into depth about how "kids are scared", "they're gonna cause blood", blah blah blah, it's just a little over the top.

Step on campus and get yourself in the 2-deep before you get talking that much trash, otherwise you just look like an idiot. That goes for Ohio State players/recruits as well. Until any of these guys do something on the field, including against their own team, keep it to repping your school more than singling out players or imaginative stories of domination.

But in terms of who I want to cry and lose all 4 matchups the most, it definitely is Kalis or Pipkins because of said reasons.

Don't give up... Don't ever give up.

The amount of trash talk is kind of strange. Its over the top. Seems to be logical for someone to be fueling all of it. Whether it is a coach/recruiter or just flapping among themselves. It can hurt them in the long run. That stuff stays with you and after awhile it gets in your head. You feel you have to back up your statements even if they were years ago. Seems to be becoming typical scUM behavior. Never happened with Bo there. Arrogance at its finest. Let 'em keep talking. It can only help us.

I should know better than to write this - history does not really repeat itself - but . . .

The way this Michigan program is being (re)constructed, both physically and in terms of its locker room culture, reminds me a bit of the Michigan teams from the early 00s: big, burly guys who think they're the college version of the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, talk non-stop trash, but fall all over themselves when opposing offensives spread the field and attack their weaknesses - in other words, schoolyard bullies.

Wasn't the 2004 version of The Game, Troy Smith's coming out party, when one of Michigan's defenders said - after getting undressed all afternoon by Smith, Ginn, et al - that he wished Ohio State would line up and play football "like a man," or something to that effect?

Future invitation from Kalis: "Why don't you step into this phone booth with me 'cause I'll kick yer ass until you bleed." Spence/Washington/et al: "No thanks, we'd rather make your QB bleed."

Future invitation from the Belly of the Beast: "Run the ball up my gut, you chumps!" Urbz: "You need to channel that frustration and anger more constructively, son."

I think all this is blown out of proportion.....how many of these kids are a part of our team right now?

Trust me Hoke will get all these guys in check real soon, been to a lot of football practices at UofM and the first thing you notice with hoke is the discipline of the players compared to the RR regime.

About Pipkins, Hoke has talked to him already because because he was off twitter for a while and has hinted at the fact that he has got into some trouble in regards to twitter and needs to change his tone on there....not an issue in my opinion, I would be worried if they were on campus and talked crap ala David Boston or Terry Glenn or even Mike Hart.

I'm fine with them running their traps on Twitter or in interviews or wherever else they want to.  Notice there's been mostly silence and class from the Ohio State kids?  They have a coach who has heard all the non sense and shit talking.  He's seen Hoke in interviews spouting off about Ohio while he's spitting chunks of sausage at the repoter as he speaks and sweats some mix of butter and crisco.  He's taking it all in, but his response won't come until a Saturday in November.  The ass whooping on the field will be the only statement he and his players need to make.  I love it Michigan fans, I hope your kids keep talking and your coach takes little and stupid jabs at Ohio State.  The more they keep doing it, the less mercy Urban will show.  I can't wait to hear the press conference so we can here him say, It's not my job to stop my offense, once again.

lol ok lets be honest Urban is not the king of discipline and that is evident with his time at Florida. All those arrests just disappeared when he came to Columbus? Kids make mistakes and it is bound to happen at every program, but 30 over 5 years.

I do like how UM banned twitter with his team. I guess that avoids a lot of problems but at the same time Michigan I know for a fact monitors it once the kid is on campus. The stuff Frank Clark tweeted last year before he got to ann arbor was terrible and I thought wow this kid is coming to Michigan? But, ever since he has been on campus you can tell his tone on there has changed.

UM has taken shots at Michigan, he tried with the whole majors thing at the Woody Hayes Center and releasing a statement to tell people he will refer to us as TTUN. Which is fine with me, I want the hate and passion back, that is what the rivalry has been lacking. I dont care what anyone says unless it is the week of the game. That is when it is magnified the most IMO.

Also, in regard to Kalis. It was people in Ohio who spurrned his reaction to say what he said. The guy is pissed, he had fans from all over Ohio calling him and his family out for his college decision and even fans hoping he would tear his ACL. Any man is going to be pissed about that and I had no problem with his comments. It is not like it just came out of nowhere the way Pipkins did.

Hoke has done the right thing in every case that needed to be attended to so far. Do not forget he just kicked off our best wide receiver a month ago. Something a lot of coaches will not do, including Urban Meyer (evident to Florida ONLY). Brian Kelly, Dantonio etc.

Set your avi

Twitter wasn't banned by UM. Who knows who put up the majors board? All say Urbz, ordered it, did it, but I say the sky is green, any proof? It seems funny how scUM seems to be an in-house sort of place. Kind of like PSU. I read that a certain player was definitely paid while there but never heard about it in the news. If there is one there is many more. And I think legal issues are "taken care of" in a PSU sort of way. I read somewhere that Joke considers a verballed recruit "gone" if he takes a visit to another school after he has verballed to scUM. This all will surely be vehemently denied by rational scUM fans.

lol it is not rational when there is no proof of a player getting paid. Brionte Dunn should be pissed as well. But it is a little different, in reading this board and other  ones I have never heard or read a good thing about Kyle Kalis. The most classy post I have read about the kids is that, "he will eat his words for four years." That is because he is from Ohio and people in Ohio are nautrally pissed that he spurrned the home state school. Brionte Dunn is from Ohio and is around Buckeye fans every day. If he lived in Michigan then the reaction would of been much worse for him. Brionte dealt with the backlash on twitter and social networks, Kalis dealt with it everyday face to face.

I am not making excuses, these kids are young and immature and are not even on campus yet. If this was happening while they were on campus I would be concerned. As of right now I am not. Funny how you mention, "18 and idiot" like they are not supposed to coincide with each other. Especially now a days. World has changed a lot in seven years(last time i was 18) and maturity is not so common at the age. Jamal Berry is 20 or 21, he still made idiotic decisions. Daryl Stonum is 22, yep idiotic decisions is the common theme. Once your 18 does not automatically mean you start making the right decisions. Everyone is wired different and comes from different experiences.

@big swede:

Kyle Kalis, great recruit, will probably start at scUM his freshman year, from the tape I've watched he finishes off blocks like the best of them and will probably be a All Big Ten performer in the coming years.  I think most of us would agree that we wish he hadn't been short sighted in commiting, de-commiting, committing again, and than de-committing once againt to tOSU, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.  So there's something "nice" about Kyle on this board.

Do you know for a fact that Kalis dealt with it every day face to face?  I mean do you really think school kids or his friends parents, or people in his community on a daily basis would just walk up to him and start talking shit to him or about him?  You always get internet tough guys who wills spout off on comment sections and Twitter.  Do you really get that many tough guys who will walk up to a man that large and run their traps?  Doubtful.  So he would get on 11 W and read people saying they didn't want him here anymore anyway.  Even if he did,  have to deal with it every day, I'd much rather have a player who handles it like a man and just keeps his mouth shut, than someone who actually asks for it by making stupid comments the whole time.

No doubt many of those who think he's a punk or say they didn't want him anymore would love it if the kid would've changed his committment back to Ohio State.  We need that kind of O-lineman.

I'm just wondering how much of face to face, was Twitter and internet stuff, or hearing people comment on local sports talk radio, or reading comment sections in papers and stuff like that.  That kind of stuff could be construed as dealing with it every day, in which case his situation probably isn't much different than Brionte Dunn, who by the way people in comment sections of this site were questioning too simply because he was maybe considering Michigan.

The guy was one of the top recruits in the country, I do not think he lacked attention. If anything he seemed like he was a kid who did not like the attention. He always kept it quiet when he visited Michigan and even kept quiet during the whole winter in Columbus last year. I read that he was often very difficult to get in contact with to talk about visits and things of that sort.

It is very different from Brionte Dunn? How many of Brionte's neighbors are Michigan Fans. Classmates? Friends? Teammates? Shit, even teachers or coaches for the most part. Brionte Did not deal with all that.

The fact remains, these kids did well in high school, yet they are talking sh*t about college football. They are still in high school (for the most part unless someone enrolled early). Its just stupid. i hate meatchicken college.

and also, kind of interesting to see Kalis go from a tOSU commit to saying he is going to make the team bleed, again, before he plays a college game...... But thats cool I guess. One win over several years does that to a person. Oh wait, these recruits have yet to win against tOSU, so thats out.

I saw that one meatchicken college fan said "what do you expect after losing 8-9 seasons, etc etc," or something like that based on the trash talking. I expect someone who was unable to beat tOSU actually take the game solely as a building block, not as an opportunity to assert dominance in an area where they have been a complete 180 from dominance the past decade.

Dodson was talking about Kalis and said he didn't think Kalis made those remarks or intended them to sound as they did. Dodson said he and Kalis were friends. The rivalry will always be there, but I don't think we will see a return to the 10 years war. Social media plays a part in this by people seeing that we all are the same. Both sides have idiots as well as good sports. Plus, these guys are going to the same camps and all star games and generate friendships. In basketball, Sully and Trey were childhood friends and HS team mates, but the rivalry is still just as great. How could rational people ever have hatred toward these young men. I can't wait for football season to see how Meyer's offense will be changed and to see if the defense is going to be as dominating as I think it will. Go Bucks.

@rational    lol I could tell when you first started commenting on here that you were just dying to come out of the closet with your comments... and yes you were right my name fits me and for some reason I can accept this kind of talk from you rather than the sneaking an insult in with some kind words.

I have to admit that beatting you guys almost every year was fun but there was something missing and i think this chatter back n forth is it. like DUBJAY said... i enjoy it

We'll see how hoke put a stop to the trash talk when Nov comes around... :)

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but has anyone else noticed we haven't heard much from "M Man" since Rational started posting here...hmmmmm.....just a thought!

Like I said just putting it out there (as a joke)!  I just haven't seen M Man posting much like he used to, usually he brings his points of view to subjects like this.

Mman just had a B-day and had that sickening cake. His head is probably still around the john.

Lol i am not M Man.....i actually think he is too much of an asskisser on this site. Nothing against the guy just my opinion.

@xtreme:No I try not to hide my feelings but at the same time not going to throw myself at the wolves. One thing about me though, and it comes naturally, when I feel something is right I will fight it till the end and when I am wrong I am the first person to admit it.

In regards to you guys, I hate you, but I love you. We need you guys for this rivalry to be where it was and vice versa.

@Rational MFAN This article from Maize N Brew puts it best.

"Once again the two sides meet on even footing, staring across no-man's-land at a worthy adversary, eyes filled with hate. We realize that as much as we hate Urban Meyer and Ohio State we need them, and they need us... The right moment is finally back. The rivalry is renewed."

Go Bucks.

I think what's funny is rational once again brought up the series of arrests when meyer was at florida again. And mentions that hoke kicked stonum off the team, yet conveniently leaves out that meyer has done the same since taking over. Gambrell and clarke were both dismissed due to legal troubles not long after he became the head coach. And jamaal berry was another casualty of extracurricular trangressions. Pretty sure the message has been sent to the players that you're either on board with the direction of the program, or you won't be a part of the program.

Either way, I love the back and forth. I have a lot of friends who are scUM fans, and we get after each other about it. Its the best rivalry in college football. Some kids want to run their mouths....so be it.

@rational.  I didn't mean to imply you said anything about OSU players.  I was referring to Kalis hating on OSU players because of what a few stupid fans said.  If he is that thin skinned, I would be concerned how he will react if OSU players started calling his mama names during the game.  I'm thinkin a few unsportsman like penalties.  :)

Did Irrational just call M Man a bad name or did I mis-read that?  Moderator, wouldn't that be attacking another member???? (joking of course with a thick amount of sarcasm)

Even with Meyer gone the U of F is still dealing with a good number of arrests and discipline problems.

I'm sure I will get hammered for this, but why is it that over the last decade when we won 2 games against OSU and if we mentioned how we dominated the Cooper era, Buckeye fans said stop living in the past and the present is all that matters, but now if we reference our win (present) and we are optimistic about years to come, it's labeled as a fluke win bc you had a down year?

I don't know about you guys, but all of my friends that are Buckeye fans were down right cocky each and every year, regardless of the previous year/decade going into the game. So while I don't expect any of you to predict a buckeye loss going forward, it's comical to think that another extended win streak is happening any time soon.

Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

And too that Hail, I would say its one win by 7 at home against a team that was in total flux. If Tress had been coaching and you beat us, I don't think many of us would feel the way we do. I just wish you scUM fans were able to see things from both sides. I can however see your view point as a win is a win regardless of who was coaching but the joy of despising scUM is I don't have to agree with you and obviously you won't agree with me.

Ya Hail2 it is just crazy how die hard Ohio State fan's only argue the positive aspects of their team or the positive parts of our history with Michigan.  It is just baffling to me, golly gee I just don't get it.  It's actually even more comical to me that you think people on an Ohio State message board wouldn't be actively communicating that OSU is not going to keep beating Michigan like we have been for the last 10 years.

Here, let me know if this is better for you.

Although I will be rooting for Ohio State in the upcoming seasons I truly do see the positive momentum that Brady Hoke currently has at Michigan.  But don't discount Urban Meyer either, he is a fantastic coach who will be challening for wins year in and year out.  With the loss last year to the Wolverines, I now understand that it is irrational to think we can beat them every year.  Also when I look back in the history books, I gain some perspective on the rivalry and now see that Michigan has had the same type of dominance against our football team during the Cooper era.  I am looking forward to a fun season and need to keep in mind that you can't win them all.  Good luck to each squad in the upcoming  years, Cheers!
