Let's just go ahead and set the mood right...

Word of the Day: Vanquish.

JUST LIKE FOOTBALL. I almost feel bad for Michigan. As if a(nother) crushing home loss to Ohio State on the football field wasn't soul-sucking enough, now they have to witness one on their own hardwood as well.

Sure, Michigan is a 2.5-point favorite. Yeah, Ohio State has been atrocious on the road this season. Yes, the Buckeyes will almost certainly be without DJ Carton again. And that's all going to make it even more hilarious when the Buckeyes slap Michigan around for 40 minutes in front of a nationally televised audience.

I know the game is in Ann Arbor, but any Ohio State student who makes the trek and performs the "Just Like Football!" chant as the Buckeyes dribble out the game deserves to be knighted.

NERVES OF STEEL... KIND OF. Drue Chrisman's been about as clutch as it's possible for a punter to be.

I mean, he was the no-doubt MVP of Ohio State's win at Michigan State in 2018 and threw an absolutely perfect pass on a fake punt in the Big Ten title game. The dude seems pretty much impossible to rattle.

Unless he's proposing to the love of his life in front of over 100,000 people.

"You get rejected in front of 100,000 people, national TV, you might be entering the transfer portal at that point."

I feel you, Drue. You'd like to think this wouldn't happen and that you know for sure she's going to say yes, but there's a reason there's an entire YouTube genre of rejected marriage proposals. And that one... That one would top the list for an eternity.

DID HIS PART. The 'Niners didn't get the win on Sunday night, but it certainly wasn't because Nick Bosa had an off day. Because even as a rookie on the biggest stage in the sport, he was the best pass rusher on the field.

The good news for "little" Bosa is that he's going to have PLENTY more chances to get a ring, and I don't recall many pass rushers getting worse following their rookie season. So realistically, this season is probably the easiest he's ever going to be to block. That's fairly terrifying.

STAMP'S NICKNAMES. There might not be a person in the football facilities who knows these players better than Ryan Stamper, and he's making sure he shares a bit of that with us common folks, letting us in on some of his nicknames for a few of the players.

Everything about "Give Him The Ball McCall" is glorious, but Brother Craig from Friday had me absolutely rolling.

Also, are we sure we can just liken 6-foot-4, 310 pound Wyatt Davis to 5-foot-6, 160 pound Tupac Shakur just because he's got a nose ring? That's like calling me "Manu" because I'm balding.

DYLAN THOMPSON, STILL STRONG. If you're wondering what Dylan Thompson's up to these days, the former Buckeye appears to have gotten extremely good at picking up very heavy things and putting them down again – a skill my fiancée tells me I should develop in the very near future.

I don't mean to slander someone who could quite clearly snap me in half like a Ticonderoga pencil – so bear with me here – but I had no idea how Dylan Thompson remained on Ohio State's roster for as long as he did.

I mean, Urban Meyer actually told the media that he needed to "Do something. And underline that. Do something" four months before he was ruled academically ineligible. At the time, I assumed that would be all she wrote, but he stuck around for more than a year after that.

Maybe this is why, because I'd have no problem keeping him around just to teach my team how to lift by example. As long as he shows up every day and does that to set the tone, we're all good.

NOT STICKING TO SPORTS. Prison officials confiscate alcohol from inmates who were going big for Super Bowl... A paramedic’s notes from inside the ambulance... The wild world of the underwater torpedo league... A second man with ties to Mexico’s largest monarch butterfly reserve is found dead...
