Three-star 2027 defensive back Angelo Smith, brother of Jeremiah Smith, commits to Ohio State.
Angelo Smith will continue his family’s legacy at Ohio State.
The younger brother of current Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, Angelo Smith – a three-star defensive back in the 2027 recruiting class – announced his commitment to the Buckeyes on Sunday night.

Smith received an offer from Ohio State in June after participating in one of the Buckeyes’ high school football camps. He told Eleven Warriors after receiving that offer that the opportunity to play for Ohio State would be hard to pass up.
“Just seeing how the program is run and things like that, I would definitely say when it's all said and done, Ohio State will be one of my top schools to pick from,” Smith said. “It's just a great program. Any kid in the country would want to go there.”

- Composite Rank: #400 (#38 Safety)
Ohio State made Smith earn his offer, as he previously camped at OSU as a wide receiver in 2024 before receiving his offer this summer after camping as a defensive back, and he appreciated that the offer wasn’t handed to him just because of who his brother is.
“Getting an offer like that, it felt wonderful. I don't even know how to explain it, but I feel like I really put a lot of work into it and it wasn't just given to me,” Smith told Eleven Warriors. “Knowing I'm his brother and stuff, people just think stuff’s supposed to be given to me … So knowing that I had to work for it to get it, it was a good feeling at the end of the day. It was a great feeling.”

Smith, who is ranked as the No. 38 safety and No. 400 overall prospect in the 2027 class, chose Ohio State over offers from Miami, Oklahoma State, Akron, Georgia State and Toledo.
He becomes the third member of Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting class, joining quarterback Brady Edmunds and wide receiver Jamier Brown.

Smith is currently in his junior season at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School, the same high school his older brother attended. He’s recorded 18 tackles with an interception, two pass deflections and a half-sack in three games this season.
While Smith is smaller than his older brother, measuring in at just 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, he plays with the same competitive drive as Jeremiah and believes that will enable him to have similar success at the next level.
“He's a hard worker, but knowing my size and knowing that me and him don't got the same measurables of right now, I would say my hard work and the way I push myself every day,” Angelo said when asked what makes him different from his brother. “I'm not the biggest person in the world. It might be other guys that's bigger than me. So I feel like I just work at 10 times harder for everything, and that’s really what pushes me to be different.”
He likely won’t play alongside his brother, as Jeremiah will probably enter the 2027 NFL draft after his junior season as a projected top-five overall pick, but Angelo has been inspired by his brother’s success in becoming one of college football’s biggest stars at Ohio State. He’ll look to follow in Jeremiah’s footsteps when he starts his own career in Columbus in two years.
“It inspired me a lot and I know it inspired a lot of other kids,” Angelo said. “Seeing he came in as a freshman, it probably inspired so much kids to want to come in and start as well.”
