Four-Star Ohio State Quarterback Commit Brady Edmunds Active in Peer Recruiting, Getting Involved in Columbus Community

When Brady Edmunds landed his Ohio State offer at the Buckeyes’ recruiting camps last June, he was certain he’d commit to the program. Even if he didn’t officially pledge his services until December.

“It was June 10th or 11th when I got the offer and that's probably when I knew,” Edmunds said.

Edmunds returned to Ohio State for a week-long visit this week, but also retook the field for the same recruiting camp where he earned his deal-sealing offer in 2024. And the four-star quarterback is already trying to bring others with him in the class of 2027.

“Whenever someone gets offered or something like that, I kind of connect,” Edmunds said. “Or sometimes Coach will text me or call me and I'll get someone to go after. (Five-star tight end) Brock Williams is a big guy that we're going after this weekend. I talk to him basically, like, almost every single day and he'll be here for, I think, Friday, Saturday, Sunday or something like that, so that'll be pretty big for us.”

Edmunds is currently the No. 67 overall prospect and No. 6 quarterback in the 247Sports composite rankings after completing 62% of his passes for 3,222 yards and 36 touchdowns as a sophomore at Huntington Beach High School in California. He said there was nothing new about being back on campus as a commit rather than a prospect trying to earn an offer, but that it was nice to work one-on-one with Ryan Day and Ohio State quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler.

“It felt really good,” Edmunds said. “Just competing with the guys and more so, I think like coaching-wise, Coach Day and Coach Fessler, every single rep, talking me through things. I was getting pulled aside for some one-on-one coaching with Coach Day, so that was awesome.”

Being that he’s not from the area like 2025 quarterback signee and five-star Ohioan Tavien St. Clair, weeks like these are also important for Edmunds to ingratiate himself in the culture of the city, he said. He wants to be active in the community.

“We're going to the Children's Hospital on Tuesday, and I got a big donation there and getting a tour of the hospital and stuff like that,” Edmunds said. “So little things, you know, because Tavien, it's kind of easy for him to be part of the community. For me, trying to install myself in the community of Columbus is gonna a big advantage by the time I get here.”

When it comes to attracting other top 2027 talents to Columbus, Edmunds feels he can just let the product sell itself. The proof is in the pudding given what Ohio State accomplished in 2024, after all.

“I mean, I don't really think there is a big pitch,” Edmunds said. “You just won the national championship. It's kind of self-explanatory. It's year in and year out, you're playing at the highest level every single (season), it’s not like they have a downswing. Obviously the wide receivers are really good, but then every single other position is high tier. So it's kind of self-explanatory."

Ohio State is considering taking a second quarterback in Edmunds’ class, but it’s not something that will deter him from his commitment.

“For me, it's just another opportunity to compete,” Edmunds said. “Obviously now coming in, if it was one quarterback, I'd be working for Tavien (and) whoever the ‘26 (commit) is. Now, you've got a dude right on your tail working you even more. So, I mean, it's just an opportunity to get better.”

Much like he’s recruiting other players, the Buckeyes are still recruiting Edmunds, too. It’s a level of effort he appreciates as he remains almost two years away from actually starting his Ohio State journey.

“It's just more of a family aspect,” Edmunds said. “I feel like everybody knows who you are now. The good thing about here is I feel like I'm still being recruited, too. It's not just be like, ‘OK, we got him. I think I'm still being recruited. So, there's that aspect and then the family aspect, like I mentioned previously, I was here for the Elite 11. I was in a room with Coach Fessler’s wife and Coach Fessler's kid and he’s got another one all the way. So, just the family aspect, just the homey vibe.”

Edmunds is establishing himself as the centerpiece of Ohio State’s 2027 class and peer recruiting efforts. Between he and St. Clair, there’s a lot of talent and maturity for the Buckeyes’ future at quarterback.
