Taking a look at this conference championship weekend and the CFP poll this week shows that for all all intents and purposes we already do have an 8 Team Playoff in 2019, at least as far as it concerns the Buckeyes.
The committee has seeded the tournament looks like this for us:
1. Ohio State
2. LSU
3. Clemson
4. Georgia
5. Utah
6. Oklahoma
7. Baylor
8. Wisconsin
#1 Ohio State faces #8 Wisconsin in the first round. If they win they move on to play the winner of #6 Oklahoma or #7 Baylor in the second round and then they'd move on to face the winner of #3 Clemson and either #2 LSU or #4 Georgia in the championship game.
This is as close to a true 8 team playoff as we've ever seen. There are some special rules like defending champion Clemson getting a first round bye, and maybe the seeding isn't exactly perfect but it's pretty darn close.
