Ready

Recruiting is said to be the lifeblood of college football. This series will countdown the top 100 high schools in Ohio that have provided the Buckeyes with football players. The rankings are based on how many times a player from each high school has been listed on Ohio State's roster between 1970 and 2018.

No. 79, Ready

Qualification

Five players from Bishop Ready have been listed on 12 Ohio State rosters. The first Knight to be on the Buckeyes' roster during this time frame was receiver Eric Starks. His 1993 player profile hinted that Starks played running back in high school and was trying to learn the ropes of being a receiver. He rushed for over 2,500 yards and scored 31 touchdowns at Ready and earned High School All-American and All-State honors. Starks was only on one Ohio State roster.

Defensive end Rick Huntzinger was the next player from Ready to be a Buckeye. He was a walk-on in 1992 and was a reserve player behind Matt Finkes. Huntzinger was an All-Ohio linebacker for the Knights and was a captain and team MVP his senior season. Center, Kevin Hyme, was also on the 1995 roster. It was the only time his name was listed.

Guy Ferrelli walked on to the team in 2014 and made the roster as a tight end in 2016. He earned two varsity letters at Ready.

Fifth year senior, Brady Taylor made three appearances last season. He played against Oregon State, Rutgers and Washington for a total of 26 snaps. In all, Taylor played in 32 games including 13 of the 14 games in 2017. Against UNLV, he had a career high 55 snaps at center. Taylor earned three varsity letters at Ohio State. At Ready, he was an All-Ohioan and guided the Knights to three playoff wins in 2013.

Back To School

Ready is located in Franklin County and is a member of the Central Catholic League. The team currently competes in Division V, Region 19. The Knights' last playoff appearance was 2017. Ready traveled to Wheelersburg and lost, 34-0, in the first round. The football program won a state title in 1983.

Notable

Ready has six state championships. Wrestling has two (1990, 1982), boys' basketball (1973, 1972), girls softball (1995) and the football title mentioned above.

Famous Alumni

Some famous names you may know: wrestler Tommy Rowlands (thanks Ludwig Yards) and the Buckeyes mentioned above.

Explanation of the Rankings
School "A" had 14 players appear 16 times on Ohio State's roster. School "B" had 11 players appear 20 times on Ohio State's roster. School "B" will have the higher ranking. Why? Even though school "B" has less players, those players played for more years.

If two or more schools have the same number of appearances, the tie will be broken by the school with the highest average of roster appearances per player. If there is a tie in the average, the tie breaker will be the school with the most prominent Ohio State player.
