Columbian

Recruiting is said to be the lifeblood of college football. This series will countdown the top 100 high schools in Ohio that have provided the Buckeyes with football players. The rankings are based on how many times a player from each high school has been listed on Ohio State's roster between 1970 and 2018.

No. 96, Tiffin Columbian

Qualification

Two players from Columbian have been listed on 10 Ohio State rosters.  Alan Kline earned All-Big Ten honors in 1991, but an ankle sprain in the second game of the 1992 season hampered him. Even with the injury, he entered his senior season as the Buckeyes' most experienced offensive lineman with 25 starts and had playing time in 33 games. At Columbian, Kline was an All-Ohioan and made several prep All-American teams. He also earned the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award.

Tony Eisenhard played his first four seasons in Columbus as a defensive end. Before the start of his senior year, he switched to tight end. The coaching staff considered him a "terrific athlete" and his 6-7 frame and 36 inch vertical leap made for a big target. How much of an athlete was Eisenhard? He was good enough to play basketball for the Buckeyes during the Big Ten schedule during of the 1997 season. Eisenhard played in seven of Ohio State's last eight basketball games of the '97 season.

At Columbian, Eiesenhard earned All-Ohio honors in both football and basketball. Several schools recruited him for both sports.

Back To School

Columbian is located in Seneca County and is a member of the Sandusky Bay Conference. The team currently competes in Division III, Region 10. The Tornadoes went 8–2 in the 2018 regular season. They hosted Lexington in the first round of the playoffs and lost to Lexington 31-21.

Notable

In October of 2014, Columbian played at Shelby and defeated the Whippets 83-82. Columbian running back Cliff Miller set an OHSAA record with 10 touchdowns that night. The game was tied at 75 with 1:06 remaining in the fourth quarter and Columbian won on a 2-point conversion in the first over time.

Columbian shares it stadium, Frost-Kalnow, with teams from Calvert High School and Tiffin University. Students at Columbian are able to take classes at Heidelberg and Tiffin University through the College Credit Plus program.

Famous Alumni

Famous names you may know: NFL players Bob Hunt and Chuck Heater.

Explanation of the Rankings
School "A" had 14 players appear 16 times on Ohio State's roster. School "B" had 11 players appear 20 times on Ohio State's roster. School "B" will have the higher ranking. Why? Even though school "B" has less players, those players played for more years.

If two or more schools have the same number of appearances, the tie will be broken by the school with the highest average of roster appearances per player. If there is a tie in the average, the tie breaker will be the school with the most prominent Ohio State player.
