Coaches were allowed to initiate contact with 2014 recruits starting September 1st.
Their recruiting Drew Barker pretty hard, as they were on him at midnight.
Barker said he got to talk to Coach Coombs and Herman after the game Saturday as well.

Derek, could we see a situation where both Barker and Henderson get offered at same time and who ever takes it first gets the spot? Im more thinking Barker would committ almost right away and Henderson would wait a bit and see other schools.

@Any11WStaff... What is the time frame for offering a QB? I know they want to see the QB's and review some game film. I'm hoping Barker is the guy... Already runs the spread in high school and has great leadership. Plus... He wants to be a recruiter for OSU... He has already built good relationships with McMillan, Snodgrass, Booker, etc... If we offer Barker and he commits, could the staff offer a lower QB in this class too or wouild they be set on 1 QB?
Is OSU trying to get 2 QB's in the 2014 class? I thought that's what was said? If so, it won't be a matter of who gets offered first and who commits first.
@Tenn, I think we initially thought they'd take 2, but staff has been telling qb's according to interviews that they are only taking 1 at this time, so thats what we have to go off of.

Can you imagine talking to Coombs especially after Roby had such a strong game? Yes, I know, other CBs may not have had as good of a game, but man, if he doesnt get you psyched no one would. I can understand why Roby loves him. Then to talk to Herman, Mr. 80's Movie Buff and Cool Customer? Crazy.

Does anyone know if either of these QB prospects can actually pass? I'm so tired of us having to try and teach these guys how to throw a football.

@ann arbor buckeye: you always have to teach the kids to pass. It's so rare that any high school kid comes to college with very solid mechanics. It takes a long time and most haven't worked with experts unless they get on the ESPN Elite 11 and they don't master anything after several days with them. Just like pitchers in baseball, you look for a kids with a lot of raw skills and have to believe you can work with them. Virtually all the big programs around offered Pryor and Miller and wanted the chance to work with them.

We need to only recruit kids who show allegiance to OSU and the staff and not because they have a pull on other kids. Personally I think listening to the logic above makes these kids look weaker. No doubt friendships develope but I am one to believe my OSU should not recruit like that. Lets observe Barker this year and see how he does. Was he Conners QB last year? If he was I can varify he was a stud.
Ha, I think this kid will get his offer and if what the rumors are are true then he will be a Buckeye. Let's see what Coach Meyer and the staff does, but I personall expect him to be a Buckeye.
Im kind of torn on this one. I really like Barker and Henderson and if I remember correctly, Henderson grew up a Buckeyes fan. Im not sure about Barker. I always root for the kids that grow up as fans of the Scarlet and Gray!
AA Buckeye? You're tired of having to teach high school kids how to play football at a higher level? Not to be too cynical, but it comes with the territory. Even the Andrew Luck's of the world need a lot of coaching. He's on record as saying his freshman year at Stanford was the most challenging of his career.
Barker was their QB last year. Barker can throw, and he and Henderson had best mechanics at FNL that I can remember.
You recruit the kids you think will be the best players. Period. The recruiting they can do for you is a bonus.
I personally want the best recruits...I tend to think either Barker or Henderson will be fine to go along with JT (not to mention Crest or Kizer are not out of the running...yet). Don't forget any of these aforementioned 2014 QBs won't even see the field till 2017 at best...unless there's an injury to JT. I still feel we're getting too far ahead of ourselves with these QB recruits and their importance. I personally don't want another Shane Morris type recruiting all other 2014 kids. I say Booker and McMillan are doing just fine with that whole side of twitter and what not. Let's leave the recruiting up to the coaches if you ask me...(I mean the recruiting of others btw...not what 11W provides for us) and once these others have committed (which Booker will be the first IMHO) then let the recruiting others by OSU recruits commence. Right now...it's just all a bunch of tweets and what not until they actually commit. Some 2013 kids I've heard are in touch with 2014 targets and so on. As I stated though...until someone from 2014 class commits...it's a bunch of rah rah...and chatting as far as I'm concerned.

Call me crazy, but I like Henderson more than Barker. But I'd be happy with either one. Happier with both.

I like Barkers running ability. I know they are the same size and Henderson is supposed to be heavier, but Barker looks a little thicker.
Barker was very good last year. I saw what he could do both running and passing against Franklin County. Timmons in that game had over 400 yds and 5 Tds and Barker passing and rushing probably approached 500. conners coach after that game mentioned Timmons as the best in the state per the Cin Enquirer.
I came away very impressed by Barker but for some reason I thought he was a senior. This is a Tebow like QB but better passer.
I'm all or Barker having an influence on recruits. These kids want to win and they know if they go to school with other elite athletes they're going to have a shot to win. Urban and his staff are doing a great job and I trust them, but I'm not oppose to Barker trying to talk other kids into coming to OSU... IMO I think the 2014 QB redshirts a year and then passes JT.
No problem with them recruiting others but my point was you do not add him because he will help recruit others. I think it does make him sound weak (which he is not and has a good chance on his own merits). JMO
I don't want him offered because he wants to recruit others. I want him offered because he's a stud, already runs the spread, and has great leadership skills. The staff has stated that Henderson is quicker and more athletic than they initially thought but he's a pro style QB, Barker is a dual guy that fits our offense.

I don't know. I live in TN, not KY. I just do a lot reading on these guys.
Probably the best offensive display was last years Barkleys Conner team vs Timmons Franklin County team and both did very well as Barker was 8-16-1 94yds passing. 22 carries for 217 yds. Timmons 7 rushes 3 receptions for 371 yds. conner took a 42-40 lead at half and went on to win after FC QB had his first bad game of season throwing 4 picks in 2nd half. Many expect a rematch this year and if it happens it will be one fun game to watch.
My guess is Barker is offered in late October or early November and commits after ttun game.
