Like Darron Lee, Baker will learn his final fate with OSU tomorrow. When asked if he'd commit on the spot if offered, Baker said, "we'll see". I really like this kid and hope he gets the call.

Awesome kid to talk to, and quite an athlete. I'm with Alex on this one.
Tomorrow could be an exciting day. Maybe better left for a mailbag section but Alex, I saw in the Baker Catching up story that you think theres around 8 spots left. Do you think thats around where the class will be or is that 8 wishful thinking?
I think around 20 total
Thanks Alex!
With Cam Burrows and Eli Woodward already in the fold, I'm not too worried about the secondary. But with that said, if Urbz n Staff like him enough to extend an offer tomorrow, I hope he commits. #NoFlyZone
Baker is being looked at on offense I believe. Miles confirmed when I tweet asked him.
Alex, on the same note, class size without attrition/early departure is now 19, with Bobek's transfer, correct?
Lets sign this kid up!!! Go Bucks!!!
Current number is 16 I believe. 20 sounds about right with the usual attrition.
Thanks Northbrook, between keeping track of our class and Michigan's, they got combined haha
Here's Baker's highlight video. He's fast...

"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
I just rewatched Baker's tape, and my god do I want this kid to commit
I'm not a coach, but from what I saw on the video, he looks more natural on offense To me, he doesn't come across as a physical hitter on defense. It looks like he covers a lot of ground, though.
Everything I've heard has been that they're looking at him as an offensive player, so the coaches probably have the same opinions
If he gets an offer, that may tell us a lot about Gibson's standing.
He reminds me of Teddy Ginn. Ginn was the nations #1 DB, but Tres never let him play a down on D. Adrian is a great offensive talent in that same mold.
JUGDISH, I thought the same thing when I saw his highlight video.
"Paralyze resistance with persistence." -Woody Hayes
Wow, this kid's speed does look impressive. I could see him being recruited for Offense assuming his hands are good enough.
It will be interesting to see if Darron and Adrian get offers soon.
Soooo... seeing as how it's 4 PM on the East coast, have we heard any official word yet today on whether or not Adrian received his offer?!?!
Scarlet - Alex said Baker is supposed to text him when he hears from OSU.
hasn't heard yet...will follow up soon
Missed that (not sure if it was a Tweet or what). Thanks for the info!
His stride reminds me of Teddy Ginn's stride, though obviously not as quick.
Baker is sending transcript to OSU and will know by Friday.
Sounds like OSU gave him an offer contingent on them being happy with his grades?
What does that even mean (I know it means he's sending his h.s. transcripts - i.e., grades - but my point is... why hasn't that been done already?)?
I thought all recruits needed to submit their transcripts before being recruited (or shall I say, before being this far along down the recruiting line)?
Agreed.
But to my earlier point, shouldn't they already know what his grades are / have a copy of his transcripts (especially if both parties are this far along in the recruiting process)?
They don't need to send in grades before being recruited---just need to be good by NCAA Clearinghouse before signing a letter of intent which isn't until 6 months from now so it probably wans't done yet...I think the staff just wants to make sure he's all good to go with the university (they may have seen his grades themselves) and be assured he's safe in that aspect
Right. That's what I thought.
Now, perhaps this is my misunderstanding here, but since they are cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse, can't Ohio State request a recruit's grades then from the clearinghouse, or no? (And after reading your comment, I realize that, perhaps, Adrian hasn't submitted his paperwork yet to the clearinghouse).
Thanks for the clarification!
Yes they can...not sure if grades or just whether they are cleared or not......but Baker may not have filed with the Clearinghouse yet is what I am saying....doesn't have to do that to be recruited--just to sign a LOI
Yes, when I went through this you had to submit to the clearing house and that is where the school got their official clearance. Seems like they just need confirmation so they don't have to wait for the clearing house as Alex said. Sounds like good news for Baker!
NOTE: I did not do th is for D1 football, rather for D1 track.
I think he has an offer contingent on what they see from that transcript. They wouldn't string a kid along like this and not offer if everything is as he says it is. This staff gets recruiting. He probably has not filed with clearinghouse and the only thing they are going off of is his word and they want to dot their "i"s and cross their "t"s" so to speak before making it official.
I could be wrong. That is what I see.
Thanks guys!
Last question... If POTENTIAL recruit does not go thru the clearinghouse, and does not sign (I believe there is some 'waiver' of sorts that says, "Yes... it is okay for coaches & schools to contact me"...) then is there any way a coach could contact a POTENTIAL recruit?
Let me try to provide an example... let's take the movie Blindside and Michael Orr for example. As we know, coaches feened over Michael Orr's raw size. Orr, however, had never played organized football and never knew he was a POTENTIAL recruit (until Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw got a hold of him).
So... if Michael Orr would have gone thru life without falling into these... 'privleges'... could a coach reach out to him and say, "Hey... you should fill out such-and-such paperwork because you could be a helluva ball-player and earn a full ride and do this and that with your life thanks to our full-ride, etc."
Anyone understand what I'm trying to say / get at?
Not 100% sure of that situation...probably can find in on the NCAA's website somewhere though
I'm pretty sure you can contact "any" recruit without any cleraing house work being done. You just can't sign until you've cleared. That was my understanding 11 years ago (dang, I'm getting old...) so it might not be true anymore.
Liking the chances more and more that Baker gets offered.
So sounds like its just down to the academics.
I mean, why would the coaches make him waste his time sending them his transcript if they didn't plan on offering?
Sweet
Arazi
I've got a feeling---that Friday night's gonna be a good night
Thanks for the heads up Will I. Am...or I mean Alex.
If Baker does indeed get the offer and committ, would we still have room/take Gibson, Foster and Quick if they all wanted to committ?
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
I really don't think we would take 5 WRs overall, probably maximum two of those last 3+Stringfellow. Possibly first come first serve.
I'm going to trust the words of our 11W experts. Should we get the dancing bananas ready?
Wow. I'm surprised he's only a 3-star. Looks to be one heck of an athlete and has a great offer list.
BJ- I think we would actually but I don't think that will happen anyway
Buck-I: where do you get 5? It would be four...those three + Jalin....Baker is being viewed as CB who potentially could play some WR too....never know once they get to campus though (Teddy Ginn Jr was #1 CB in nation)
Bass: I think so
AB42: I think he will be a 4 star once the final rankings are in as do many people who work for the recruiting services
I say no.
If we land Baker, I think that pretty much all but assures we will NOT be taking all 3 (i.e., Gibson, Foster, & Quick), and we MIGHT NOT be even taking 2 of the 3 either anymore.
Just my opinion/thoughts.
Alex- Baker, Gibson, Foster, Quick, Marshall = 5
The good news is that it appears like Foster and/or Quick will probably wait until the January all star games or signing day to commit. So at least we should have a better idea about attrition and what not.
I am saying Baker is not considered a WR by the staff...actually considered a CB first who can play WR if they decide to go that route....I think Marshall + 2 true WR is the hopes right now
Have you heard anything about Corn Elder?
I thought it was established that they were looking at Baker on offense..
He told me a week or two ago the OSU staff liked him at offense, and then recently they see him as a guy that could end up at either. He's really just a great athlete. Bring him in and figure it out later.
I love the possibility of Baker being able to play both CB and WR as those are two areas of need at the moment IMO. He'll find a place on the field, that's for sure.
this is seriously the only place on the interwebs where the majority of people have Baker on offense...
Cause I couldn't go for three
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the kid looks like Antonio Cromertie, probably not quite as tall, but the long legs/stride is there. He looks all CB to me, and KR too.
After watching that longer youtube highlight film I'm sold. I think Baker and Vonn Bell (if they both commit) gives OSU a strong defensive backfield and kick returners for sometime to come with 2012 and 2013 commits. I hope they land more WRs though. That's seems to be a position of need more than any other.

Sooo.... it's 4 PM on the East coast... I would have figured we would have heard some noise by now. Are we to assume this isn't good news now, since we haven't heard anything yet?
No news isn't good or bad in this case, I'd think. Alex has probably stayed in contact and will talk to Baker when something happens
Yes, the staff sees him as the hybrid role. Not defense, not defense, not defense (at least that's what they've shown from camp and he's alluded to). The positions of need are OL/WR/LB, and they're look at him as a flex/hybrid.
I'm quite sure the staff is content with Eli/Cam as the 2013 corners, the only guy sthey would take with the scholarship limits right now would probably be Alexander/Hargreaves, but neither have shown much interest. Safety is still open for Bell (although Lee certainly changes things, since he'll likely be at STAR), OL is open namely at tackle (not sure if they're taking OG commitments right now, they said they would only reopen after a punter signed). I'd say right now the big concern is wide receiver. Gibson was a lock, but academics can be a serious roadblock. With Stringfellow off the board, watch for guys like Baker/that other really fast small WR from KY whom Alex recently posted about to get serious attention. I would still expect one or two of Foster/North/Allen/Quick to sign with the good guys.
Spoke to Baker whose high school coach told him that the OSU staff is on vacation so they don't have an answer yet. Classic stall tactic in my opinion so doesn't look like a commitment today. Trust me, despite it being technically true, if the staff wanted him to get the offer they'd find a way.
So, I'm guessing with the July 4th holiday Wednesday, the staff will be "on vacation" all next week?
Damn, might this have something to do with Vonn Bell? Maybe the staff is reconsidering the idea of getting Baker and Bell, and instead are gonna wait to see how Bell goes down.
My thoughts exactly. There's something fishy here.
First this kid was supposed to commit on Monday... then it was it looks like Wednesday... then it was we need him to send in his transcripts and we'll likely hear something by Friday... now, presuming Adrian sent in his transcripts, now it's "well the staff is on vacation so they don't have an answer."
B.S.
If the staff really wanted this kid... and the kid sent in his transcripts and everything cleared... REGARDLESS OF VACATION, they would have FOUND A WAY to get this kid his official offer.
Something stinks here...
I see it as...
There was a lot of anticipation for this kid's commitment, and to now still have not heard anything by late Friday and pull the "vacation" card is pretty b.s., IMO.
Something's going on here....
my own theory is that they might have accepted him had it not been for the MHill commitment. With MHill committing they're left with only two available scholarships (until more open up anyway) and may not want to burn one of them right now.
A Baker committment would leave them with one scholarship (again, until more open up) for the likes of VBell, all the WRs, Munger, even DGreen.
Until more open up? It's unlikely that they get a full picture of attrition before these players fall where they may. With recruits committing earlier and earlier, the best we can do is estimate the number of spots available and fill that number at whatever pace it may be, not wait until spots open up, when it will likely be too late.
Sarasota - It has been said many times that the 2013 class will more than likely have 20 or so members.
Tenn- no one doubts that there will be attrition and that more will be added to the class. There is also no doubt that at this moment there are only 2 available scholarships. I'm simply theorizing that the staff might be hesistant to make the class appear full right now, especially with so many big time recruits still on the radar.
relax, just a theory.
For the record I'm pretty sure we have 3 spots left. 81/82 on scholly to start the season (1), 15 seniors (16), plus Bobek transfer (17)
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Agreed with 1.8, until the season is over, it will be impossible to see who will be transferring or going to the NFL early or what have you. Impossible to tell right now, I'm pretty sure...just for the record;-) You can speculate all you want on Big Hank or others going early or coming back. As well as others who just may "possibly" transfer...so until season's end...no one can tell exactly what's going to happen. I'd say and always have...don't be surprised (Cough...cough...Triv) that there could be around 20-22 depending on what happens at seasons end. Be patient and UFM will make it happen Triv...trust in the force young skywalker;-)
Not to mention...the staff must be selective at this point due to what I and others have said about attrition and only 6 scholarships left, give or take a few. Few spots means only take the best will be taken and no offense to D.Lee (because his highlight tape is ridiculous and what I've heard he did at camp is inspiring) but he will likely be the last 3 star you see taken (and I'm not a big fan of the star rating btw, but don't be surprised if they only go for the big fish now). Just my opinion...i could be drastically wrong. We'll see I suppose...

I wasn't implying that's all we would have. Just stating what we have right now. My guess is 19-20 by NSD
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
@BHOP i think you're wrong about the stars, a lot of our targets are 3 stars, and coaches likely dont even pay attention. in fact, i'd like to see us take kyle meadows.
but yeah, there will be transfers. guys will dislike urban's attitudes about things, or they wont like the system, or marotti makes them work too hard.. it's inherent.
Right...right. It's all good Triv...I'm still a bit hungover and just felt like messing with you. Go Bucks!

I'd like to see them take Kyle M. Just wonder if there's a scholly left at this point for another Olineman. I hope they do take him 1.8. I don't like the system as I mentioned (look at what JT did with those 2 and 3* guys;-). IMO they need WRs and good ones...that's my point to the * thing. Not to mention another RB...Not sure D Williams or D Green will be in but I hope one of them is (personally D. Green is my fav but think staff like D. Williams more). We'll see...I just pray we get WRs...we need them. Vonn Bell 4 or 5*...those were more of who I'm talking about. We'll see...it's only late June. Who know's what will happen...

Woody Hayes 1913 - 1987
I think they take Bell if he wants in, and two recievers for sure. That makes 17, and I don't think the class stops there. Likely 2 or 3 more spots, so definitely an OT, and other ATH types.
Anybody have info on Baker since Friday?
At square one with recruiting. Idk where I'm going -- Adrian Baker (@PrimeTimeBake). Didn't sound positive to me.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
Sounds like no offer.
Without the 3 deducted schollies, he'd already be a Buckeye IMO.
I don't know if he is BSing or not, but I figured I would post it now and figure out the rest later.
Never mind, here's confirmation.
lol, and now there's question as to whether his offer to FSU was commitable. This seems to be happening a lot lately.
Well, that's interesting....
Tough times never last, tough people do
I just spoke with him and seemed convinced he was a Seminole.
I'll try to get more.
Not saying it's the tell all-be all but.....
I texted Adrian asking if he was sure they had accepted his commitment.
He responded "yes they did"
So much for stall tactics.
Urban came a calling...and the word wasnt good
No room for Baker after the Hill commitment, sadly. With 3 more schollies to give we already have McCray and Baker in this class.
Turns out it wasn't a committable offer. He tweeted 5mins ago "I guess I had a non-committable offer but hey that's life nothing i can do about it. But to the people who doubted me I still got 30 schools"
"Do not pray for an easy life. Rather, pray for the the strength to endure a difficult one" - Bruce Lee
Yeah I just read on ESPN that FSU isn't accepting his commitment and how FSU was his top and dream school... but not now. He said he wants to visit Clemson and Oklahoma now.
I've never really liked the committable vs. non-commitable offers thing; these kids should have no doubt whether or not they have an offer. Semantically speaking, what exactly is a non-committable offer, offering?
Embarrassing for Baker, and embarrassing for the FSU coaches.
"Paralyze resistance with persistence." -Woody Hayes
Him trying to commit to FSU and being told his offer wasn't commitable is unfortunate, but this kid will land on his feet and should be fine. He does have a lot of offers from good schools. I wish him the best.
Newberg of 247 now says that FSU has accepted the commitment, this is a new development.
IS this an attempt on FSU's part to save face? They got bashed pretty good for the non-commitable offer stuff.
They mightve been waiting for grades also. I don't see a reason why a team shouldn't offer this kid
So I'm wondering why we didn't offer this kid, was it completely based on the grades? I'm kinda thinking/hoping it was because they have a good/great chance to land a higher rated player on the recruiting board. I really hope this is indeed the case. You know what they say a bird in hand is worth more then 2 in the bush.
@BAMA, likely. We don't need another CB and we still have a number of WR offers out that haven't resolved yet. I don't think coaches saw enough from him to justify filling a spot yet
@Buck I.8 .... What your saying makes plenty of sense, but it seemed like they were ready to offer him, then it changed all of a sudden like something new came up ... Ahh well though .... Go Bucks!
