I really think everyone else outside of Bosa is safe regarding the guru....I was only concerned about Joey because he was in the picture too....all the info I have has Joey in and I really think the Anzalones freaked out a bit and acted too soon....you can bet Meyer was on the phone with all commits and recruits today

You know who I feel sorry for Alex....you. Today. I'm sleepless & zipping around the site & I see all these questions people are asking you. Wow - Have fun!

On a serious note - I don't have much knowledge about recruiting as I don't pay much attention until after the football season is over - but I did see Joey Bosas highlight video & was glad to hear when he commited. Not only way talented but seems like a pretty solid, tough kid. I don't see this scaring him. From the little I've read on here - the kid wants to be a Buckeye...

In all reality, seems like a very very creepy guy stalked some people & got some photos with them. It's happened before it'll happen again. Could happen anywhere, anytime.

I don't even know if we know the whole story yet....but my comment to the Anzalones would be....when you are at any university there is potential of this to happen.....OSU had no knowledge of this and when they did, they did what they needed to do and that was to get the word out.  I saw a report on the news last night that OSU did everything right in this case.

tennbuckeye19's picture
tennbuckeye19 on 5 May 2012 - 9:27am #

Anzalone's dad said in the ESPN story that 'these kinds of people shouldn't be let around recruits' but then says 'this isn't the coaching staff's fault'. I can understand them being freaked out and upset and all about this. I know I would be if my son had been in a situation like this, but does anyone think for one second that if OSU knew about Twitter McCreepster that he 'would be let around recruits'. Of course not. I think Anzalone's dad is silly to think his son would be supervised 24/7 wherever he visits. But this is not a Sandusky like thing where people know a guy is a sexual predator yet are doing nothing about it.

This whole thing just sad, all the way around.

If the story is as simple as it currently appears, Anzalone might come back. And the good thing is that it is early in the recruiting year. The timing could have been worse and this guy could have caused much greater problems. So, unless it gets murkier, good thing it happened now rather than later.

Did the guy do anything illegal? Can they actually keep him off campus? Of course, he would be crazy to come back to OH. but just wondering what the legal situation is.

DMcDougal24's picture
DMcDougal24 on 5 May 2012 - 10:16am #

Sounds like he violated his parole. In Ohio at least, when you are sentenced to probation the judge will impose an actual jail sentence, but then "stay" or suspend the sentence pending completion of your probation terms. A violation of parole/probation will generally mean that you have to serve time on the initial crime (the possession of child pornography), plus any additional time caused by your violation (if you committed another crime).

Doesn't sound to me like he has committed a crime with this new story other than a violation of his parole/probation terms.

I heard he lived in KY. Hopefully he violated his probation by going to OH and they can lock him up. Otherwise, would he dare come back? Strange situation. Thanks for the info.

I would think that having personal contact with anyone under 18 would be a probation violation. Hopefully, the authorities are on this.

He violated probation by being on a social media website that individuals under the age of 18 can access. It was in a link from the icy-cold gray box last night...

This obviously can't be an ADVANTAGE...but I hope that Ohio State follows the legal proceedings that are about to happen and pressures the judge to sentence this guy to the maximum sentence.

I think people are going to unfairly jump on compliance and the staff for "letting this happen". The truth of it is, the sensed something wasn't right, found out who this creep was and protected our student athletes.

I applaud the department for working swiftly. I don't fault Anzalone, I would be creeped out too but his father's reaction was bogus and I think the relationship has been damaged. You don't make public comments about Ohio State with Urban (ask Bielema how that's going).  I wish AA the best wherever he lands.

I hope Bosa stays. I hope he realizes this can happen anywhere and we have a great family in place to protect our students and student athletes.

Finally, as much as I love the more open access to the team under Urban, I hope the coaching staff has realized that tOSU is a monster, and not every fan is a great person.  Tress had those wrought-iron fences put around the WHAC for a reason...For the betterment of the program, I'm OK if we lock it down for awhile

DMcDougal24's picture
DMcDougal24 on 5 May 2012 - 11:04am #

The article at LandGrant includes a statute providing that registered sex offenders cannot "knowingly or intentionally use a social networking Web site or an instant messaging or chat room program if that Web site or program allows a person who is less than eighteen (18) years of age to access or use the Web site or program" Clearly Waugh did this. Grade A misdemeanor.

He also could not live within 1,000 yards of a school. I tried to look up the conditions of his probation but could not locate his case within the Boyd Circuit Court records. Like RBuck said, intentional personal contact with a known minor (not family) is almost sure to be a probation violation, but perhaps even the misdemeanor is as well. Rest assured he will not be pestering OSU recruits any longer, regardless of what happens in KY.

What I am hoping is that Urban pursuades the Anzalone family to visit (Dad, Mom, whoever else).  I think after a few days to cool down and then come realize that Urban's building a family program.  He may still be creeped out, but I think that would give us a fighting chance for him to remember why he fell in love with OSU in the first place and help his dad realize that this has nothing to do with the program.

PharmBuck's picture

It's really pretty simple.

Daddy didn't agree with Alex's choice of Ohio State. Something happened that gave Daddy an excuse to take charge and force a decommitment while at the same time using that excuse to make sure Alex doesn't look flakey. Will be the irony of all ironies if he ends up going to PSU, however.

"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."

Alex's dad would have been better off just keeping his mouth shut and responding with a "no comment at this time". To make a statement about Ohio State and actually believe they had some control on how this idiot had contact with his son is ridiculous. And now his son has Porn State in his top choices? Talk about a school (PSU) that knew about a scandal, continued to let the sick bastard Sandusky hang around the school and have contact with student athletes??? Really Mr Anzalone, you went there with your comments? I agree with a few above that daddy didn't like the OSU commitment and this is the out! Hopefully OSU is in full damage control mode and this situation doesn't get twisted.

Question: Will Bosa still stay committed to OSU?

Answer: Yes.

Reason: Because he has sane parents who don't freak out & overreact...and he's just a little tougher than some other young men. Or...he really wanted to be a Buckeye all along.

No reason to overreact because a pervo..they are everywhere, use your judgment and don't be drawn in to a pervo wanting to take pics with you out a club when you are 17 years old. @ Nick

I agree he'll probably end up at Florida, but not for that reason -- he'll end up at Florida because that's where Daddy's gonna tell him to go. We've learned quite convincingly over the past 48 hours that Daddy's running the show over there. This isn't Alex's choice. It's Daddy's.

I think once Daddy  came  in and made this decision and make no mistake, this was daddy's decision.  No where did i read at the time of the decommit that Alex said he was decommiting. Daddy said it. There really is no way to put whatever realtionship that OSU and the Anzalone family had back together other than working at it which daddy isnt going to let happen

The best thing is for Anzalone to forgo college and be homeschooled. Go on Megans Law (is that he correct site?) and check out all rgeistered sx offenders in a 10 mile radius of each school he is planning on attending... THEY ARE EVERYWHERE! at least at home daddy can have full control of his sons life....

Oh well, if this crap with this perverted @@@hole was the icing on the cake, then I am real pissed, but its this kids choice. I probably won't like him as a player, but I respect his choice because it is, afterall his education (or his dad's, judging by how everything is going down.) Daddy needs to let go.

Hope this kid finds what he is looking for wherever he goes. Hopefully its with tOSU, if not, i wish him personal success, but I will be rooting for a loss everytime he steps on the field if its not in S&G.

As a father, I might not have reacted exactly as Sal Anzalone, but I certainly understand his reaction and respect it.  I think people who are not parents might try to consider all the responsibilities and anxieties that go into raising a child and caring for a teenager before they start criticizing Alex or his father.  Good luck to Alex wherever he winds up.

I understand what you are saying and as a newer father I get it. But that said, I would've gotten the facts before disparaging an entire academic institution on the news. Had he done that, he wouldn't have had to offer a retraction or backpedel the next day.

In anycase, good luck to Alex.

Big tough football dudes haven't always been the most rational cool headed group in the world.  Like Ahh said, I totally understand the initial response and it seems as if he has a little more time to calm down and hear Meyer's side of it as well.  Just need to get the family back on campus and help them realize that Meyer is build a family at OSU and will have all of his players' backs as much or more than other coaches.
