Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye? Maybe not for Jameson Williams.
The former Ohio State wide receiver, who finished his college career at Alabama, is picking the Buckeyes' archrival Michigan to beat UConn in Monday’s men’s basketball national championship game.
Now a standout pass catcher for the Detroit Lions, Williams appeared in a team social media post Saturday in which players shared their picks for the Final Four. Former Ohio State defensive tackle Tyleik Williams answered "not up north." However, Jameson Williams, who spent two seasons at Ohio State before transferring, picked the Wolverines.
Williams began his college career in Columbus in 2019, recording six catches for 112 yards and a touchdown as a freshman. He followed that with nine receptions for 154 yards and two scores in 2020.
With Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba returning in 2021 — along with future stars Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka entering the program — Williams transferred to Alabama, where he quickly emerged as one of the Crimson Tide’s top playmakers. He finished his lone season in Tuscaloosa with 79 receptions for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns, leading the SEC in the latter two categories.
The Lions selected Williams with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He has since totaled 148 receptions for 2,513 yards and 17 touchdowns in 50 career games.
Michigan is a 6.5-point favorite over UConn in Monday’s national championship game. The good news for Ohio State fans? Two-time national champion head coach Dan Hurley is 18-1 against the spread in his last 19 NCAA Tournament games, giving UConn a legitimate shot to take down the 36-3 Wolverines in Indianapolis.
