Now that the dust has started to settle from Ohio State’s summer official visits, it’s become clearer who will and won’t be part of the Buckeyes’ 2027 recruiting class.
Five prospects who were uncommitted entering official visit season have committed to Ohio State over the last month, joining 13 prospects who were already committed to the Buckeyes.

Four other prospects who made official visits to Ohio State in May and June remain top targets for the Buckeyes (uncommitted running back David Gabriel Georges, uncommitted wide receiver Monshun Sales, uncommitted defensive tackle Karlos May and Texas Tech wide receiver commit Benny Easter Jr.) while four other summer visitors have since committed elsewhere (BYU wide receiver commit Blake Wong, Colorado linebacker commit Kaylon Bailey, Michigan cornerback commit Monsanna Torbert Jr. and Florida State running back commit Jayden Miles).
With the first wave of post-official visit commitments now complete, we’re taking a look at how Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting class is shaping up at every position. For each position, starting today with the five offensive positions, we’ll give an overall assessment of where things stand while taking a look at what Ohio State accomplished with its official visits this summer, where the Buckeyes came up short and where there are still dominoes to fall.
Quarterback: It’s Complicated
Commits: Brady Edmunds
Uncommitted official visitors: None
The good news is Edmunds remains committed to Ohio State more than two weeks after his official visit. The bad news is he hasn’t yet made a definitive statement that he will stay committed to Ohio State after also officially visiting UCLA in June.
Edmunds said all the right things after his official visit, telling 247Sports’ Blair Angulo that Ohio State “made it clear that they want me in this class,” but he also said he still had to make a final decision of staying with the Buckeyes or flipping to the Bruins.

Until a few months ago, Edmunds’ commitment to Ohio State never appeared to be in question. After Ohio State ramped up its efforts to recruit other quarterbacks in the class this spring, however, Edmunds began exploring his options as well. UCLA is the only team that’s emerged as a real threat to flip Edmunds, but the Bruins have given the four-star California quarterback plenty to think about over the last couple of months.
There’s no clear Plan B at quarterback for Ohio State if it loses Edmunds. While the Buckeyes have made attempts to flip Elite 11 MVP Trae Taylor, the five-star Nebraska commit has repeatedly reaffirmed his commitment to the Cornhuskers. That said, Ohio State will have to flip someone if Edmunds’ commitment doesn’t stick, as every single one of the top 100 quarterbacks in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2027 class is committed somewhere.
As such, keeping Edmunds in the class looks like the best option for Ohio State right now. He’s no longer rated as the five-star quarterback he was when he committed to the Buckeyes back in 2024, but he’s still a big, strong quarterback with the throwing ability to at least contend for OSU’s starting job in the future. It’s still unclear, though, whether last month’s official visit was enough to end Ohio State’s 2027 quarterback search or if Edmunds ultimately chooses to stay closer to home.
Running Back: Waiting for David
Commits: None
Still on the board: David Gabriel Georges
Official visitors committed elsewhere: Jayden Miles
David Gabriel Georges’ commitment on July 22 will be arguably the most consequential decision of the entire 2027 recruiting cycle for Ohio State, as it will determine whether or not it’s a successful recruiting cycle for Carlos Locklyn and the Buckeyes at the recruiting position.
Locklyn will automatically get an A grade for the cycle if Gabriel Georges commits to and signs with Ohio State. The five-star running back ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2027 class has all the makings of a future superstar, possessing an elite combination of size, speed and high school production (1,756 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2025).
That said, Ohio State is locked in a tight battle with Tennessee to land Gabriel Georges. While Locklyn and the Buckeyes remain confident in their position, a commitment to the Volunteers would mean Ohio State missing out on the player it’s recruited harder than anyone else in the class.
The Buckeyes would likely attempt to flip Miles, who committed to Florida State one day after his official visit to Ohio State but very well might be a Buckeye if Ohio State had been willing to take his commitment last month. But there’s no denying that any outcome other than landing Gabriel Georges would be a massive disappointment for the Buckeyes, who have made it clear for well over a year that DGG is their top running back target in the 2027 class.
Wide Receiver: Chasing One More
Commits: Jamier Brown, Jordan Donahoo
Still on the board: Monshun Sales, Benny Easter Jr.
Official visitors committed elsewhere: Blake Wong
While the future of Wide Receiver U is looking very bright after the recent commitments of 2028 five-star Jett Harrison and 2029 potential five-star Austin Miller, Cortez Hankton still needs to land another top receiver in the 2027 class to match the recruiting standard set by former Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.
Hankton could check that box in a big way by landing Sales or Easter. Indiana is viewed as the frontrunner for Sales, while Alabama, Texas and LSU are also still vying for the five-star Indiana wide receiver, but Ohio State won’t give up on landing him until he announces his commitment – which could be coming sooner than later based on his latest tweet.

— Monshun “Showtime” Sales (@__1problem) July 5, 2026
Easter has been committed to Texas Tech since November, and the fact that he remains committed to Texas Tech more than a month after his visit to Ohio State suggests the Buckeyes face an uphill battle to flip him. As with Sales, though, the Buckeyes are likely to continue pushing for Easter – the No. 64 overall prospect in the 2027 class – as long as they think they have a fighting chance.
Missing out on Sales and Easter wouldn’t be the end of the world. Ohio State already has one five-star receiver in the class in Brown, and the Buckeyes believe in Donahoo’s long-term upside despite his three-star rating. With an excellent current freshman class led by Chris Henry Jr., Jerquaden Guilford and Brock Boyd, and Harrison and Miller already in the pipeline for future classes, the Buckeyes have bigger needs than wide receiver in the 2027 class.
Ohio State ideally wants to sign three receivers in the 2027 class, though, and landing only two of this summer’s five official visitors at the position would be a disappointment. So Hankton still needs another big win in the class for his first recruiting cycle at Ohio State to grade out with top marks.
Tight End: Playing It Slow
Official visitors: None
Ohio State has no commits and didn’t even host a single official visitor at tight end this summer, leaving no clear plan for how the Buckeyes will address that position in the 2027 class.
Brock Williams was Ohio State’s top target at the position dating back to last fall, but Texas ultimately landed his commitment after the Buckeyes chose not to meet Williams’ NIL demands. Sean Currie was supposed to be in Columbus for Ohio State’s first weekend of official visits at the end of May, but he ended up committing to Penn State before that visit, and Ohio State never scheduled an OV with anyone else at the position.
As things currently stand, three-star Tennessee prospect Colton Johnson is the only uncommitted tight end with an Ohio State offer. That said, it’s likely additional targets will emerge late in the cycle this fall. That’s exactly what happened last year, when Ohio State immediately flipped in-state tight end Nick Lautar from Louisville after offering him in November.
It’s certainly not ideal that the Buckeyes don’t even have an obvious target at the tight end position with less than six months to go until signing day, but Keenan Bailey is hoping a patient approach will lead to landing a quality developmental prospect in the end.
Offensive Line: Mission Accomplished
Commits: Caden Moss, Kellen Wymer, Brody McNeel, Jimmy Kalis, Mason Wilt, Davis Seaman
Other official visitors: None
Here’s a sentence Buckeye fans haven’t read often in recent years: The offensive line is the strongest and most complete position in Ohio State’s recruiting class on the offensive side of the ball.
By landing the commitment of top-75 overall prospect Caden Moss, their only uncommitted official visitor along the offensive line this summer, Tyler Bowen and the Buckeyes secured one of the nation’s best offensive line classes in the 2027 cycle before the end of June.
Moss, Ohio State’s highest-ranked out-of-state offensive line commit since Donovan Jackson in 2021, pairs with Wymer to give Ohio State two top-100 prospects along the OL. McNeel and Kalis were significant out-of-state recruiting wins, too, as the Buckeyes believe they’re much better than their composite rankings just outside the top 300. In-state developmental prospects are always needed along the offensive line, and Wilt and Seaman both fit that bill well as they are also graded as four-star recruits.
All that’s left for Bowen and Ohio State to do now is make sure all six of those commits sign with Ohio State in December, allowing the Buckeyes to begin shifting their offensive line recruiting focus forward to the 2028 class.
