I have trouble seeing why Marcus is being recruited so hard. Im not a great evaluator of talent but from his videos I like Perkins, Williams, and even Perry better than him. I think with only having a few more scholarships and some more pressing needs that Marcus wouldn't be a priority. I may be way off, but that's my thinking right now.
Marcus looks extremely impressive on film. Although he played DE in high school, he looks like an excellent fit at OLB. He'll have to make the transfer, just as Shazier had to, from DE to OLB.
I thought that we were in good shape at DE and also at LB with Perkins and Williams. I am not too thrilled about this with limited schollies. I would like either a DB or an offensive weapon. I guess I will trust our staff on this one.
I'm guessing that the coaching staff sees LB as such a critical area of need that they're willing to go above & beyond in numbers this class, with the idea that maybe half of them will pan out.
No question, we need OLmen, especially OTs, and for the last 4+ years the OL unit has been a weaker unit than LBs, but right now the LBs might be an even bigger concern?
No reason we can't still get Dodson. That gives us 3 high level OL in this class, and we also have Elflein and Boren. As we've seen recently with Bell, McVey, Sabino, you can't have enough LBs because they don't all pan out. Kid seems like a good character, and he has a lot of talent.
Somebody retweeted one of Jamal's tweets saying Urban told him his tape was in the top 10 he's ever seen. If that's true, then you know Urban wants him...
So what recruits do u as of today see committing before signing day with the exception of DaVante Neal? Which ones to you believe will more than likely commit this week? Thanks again Alex for all you do man. You run a pretty fantastic site.
I read in ESPN recruiting chat that Diamond plans on announcing February 3 and Neal is taking a visit to Arizona on February 12th and should announce sometime after that. I know they expect Reeves to announce either after UFM's visit tomorrow or after the Penn State visit next weekend (if he takes it)
Absolutely love that Urban is making the trenches his #1 priority, building the front 7 on D and the running game on O. We were awfully thin in both areas, esp LB, by the end of the season.
One reason Meyer may be trying to load up on LB's is that they are usually a big part of kick coverage teams. With how poor our kick coverage has been over the past few years, we can definitely use as much depth and talent upgrade on our coverage teams.
Gotta disagree with DGRUBBS--I don't think I could have been more impressed with Marcus' film. Thought Williams was the most polished of all of them at this point, but had Marcus as the #1 prospect out of Perkins & Williams.
Jamal Marcus may take on official to UNC this weekend on mom's wishes.....I think mom wants him to stay close to home, but I know someone who spoke to Jamal after his visit said he thought he would be a Buckeye....I still have him IN this class, but a little more cautious if the visits to Carolina schools happen
I have a lot of respect for what his mother wants for her son & where he should play his collegiate ball. However, with all due respect; he's becoming a grown man & should be allowed to make his own decision after sitting down & discussing all options with his mother. The next 4 years of his life are going to be a great experience for him & he should have a pretty valid say in where he wants to attend college & play college football. Hope to see ya in Scarlet & Gray Marcus, come to OSU & become a part of Buckeye Nation.
Slight detour here but on the topic of Linebackers, how does Crowell look to be recovering from his surgery? I was really excited to see this kid come to our school. How quickly we focus on the new recruits coming in and the ones signed last year become an after thought. I ain't given up on this one unless he signs a medical hardship. Hope that isn't his path.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Marcus is being pulled to stay close to home for family reasons? Ok, I get that. I the big picture though, deciding between tOSU and ECU, you definitely need to look at all of the LBs that tOSU has put in the league. That gives you the ability to take care of your family long term. If I was his mom, I'd be a lot like the mom on this video, although substitute "Hercules" for "Ohio State" and you get what I"m saying.

Great work yet again, Alex.

I'm willing to trust Urban's eye for talent. If he wants Marcus enough to offer, host, and recruit him, that's good enough for me.
According to 247, Jamal should make his decision by the end of the week.
I guess him mom wants him to stay closer to home.

Thanks again Alex for the time that you put into this site. You have us spoiled.

I'd love to feel as good as others do about Marcus. His visit sounds the same as Joel Caleb's. Hoping for the best.
Alex, if you say so I'm confident. Great addition. This kid will be a major contributor with some coaching.

DGRUBBS is the first person I have heard say that they aren't impressed with Marcus's highlights.
Yeah, I loved his video. I even though it was better than Williams"s and Perkins's videos.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog
his senior highlights are very impressive..in the backfield making plays a lot it seems

Hope your right Alex, I am just afriad mom is going to end up winning out against Meyer on this one.
yeah Mom could be tough to beat here...we will see...I know if it is up to Jamal alone he is a Buckeye, but it rarely is up to the player alone

I still think he is a Buckeye
I hope so Alex. We really need him to finish out the LB position. This would be a huge get.

Was Marcus supposed to announce today?
He's supposed to announce on Feb. 1st.
