MICHIGAN FOOTBALL ON TRIAL

Could the hammer finally be dropping on the Michigan football program?

Michigan football endured a two-day hearing on June 6 and 7 before the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions regarding potential punishments for the program’s involvement in sign stealing and impermissible scouting during the Wolverines' resurgence from 2021 until 2023.

The Wolverines face 11 violations, including six Level I infractions, most of which stem from the program’s wide-ranging sign-stealing operation, led by former Michigan analyst Connor Stalions, who was in attendance at the hearing.

Michigan has already self-imposed penalties for head coach Sherrone Moore, as the program is expected to suspend Moore for Weeks 3 and 4 of the 2025 season, in which the Wolverines play Central Michigan at home and Nebraska in Lincoln. Moore deleted a thread of texts with Stalions once the scandal became public knowledge, and could still face additional penalties from the NCAA.

Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, now with the Los Angeles Chargers, has already faced punishment from the NCAA. Harbaugh has received a four-year show-cause penalty and a one-year suspension for violations stemming from a separate investigation regarding illegal recruiting during the COVID-19 dead period. Harbaugh could receive additional penalties for his role in the sign-stealing operation.

TEXAS CLAIMS FIRST WOMEN’S WORLD SERIES TITLE

After losing in the Women’s World Series Championship Series in two of the last three seasons, Texas softball has finally reached the mountaintop.

The Longhorns dominated Texas Tech 10-4 in Game 3 of the championship series on Friday to claim the program’s first Women’s World Series title

Texas jumped on its in-state foe early, cruising to a 10-0 lead by the fourth inning, sparked by a grand slam from senior utility player Mia Scott. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Teagan Kavan was outstanding, yet again, pitching all seven innings and allowing no earned runs in the win.

Kavan earned Most Outstanding Player honors after going 4-0 while pitching 31.2 innings and allowing no earned runs during Texas’ College World Series run.

OREGON’S EVAN STEWART REPORTEDLY SUSTAINS SIGNIFICANT KNEE INJURY

Oregon’s receiving corps took a massive hit on Friday.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, top wideout Evan Stewart reportedly sustained a significant knee injury that could potentially hold him out for the 2025 season. Stewart will undergo further evaluation regarding the injury.

The senior wide receiver was expected to make a leap for the Ducks in 2025, coming off a sophomore campaign in which he caught 48 passes for 613 yards and five touchdowns. Stewart transferred to Oregon prior to last season after two seasons at Texas A&M, where he snagged 91 catches for 1,163 yards and six touchdowns.

With Stewart potentially out of the equation for the Ducks, Oregon will turn to returning receivers Justius Lowe and Gary Bryant Jr. for first-year starting quarterback Dante Moore. Oregon also landed former Florida State wide receiver Malik Benson via the transfer portal this offseason.
