The big news yesterday was D'Angelo Russell's transcripts getting sprung from the NCAA clearinghouse. The five-star recruit is now enrolled, on campus and ready to give the B1G some big buckets this year.

LET IT RAIN, YOUNG MAN, LET IT RAIN.

URBAN RANKED BEHIND CHRIS PETERSEN. We begin our day with OUTRAGE. Bryan Fischer of NFL.com continued his 14 for '14 series yesterday by ranking college football coaches. Nick Saban checked in at No. 1, which is as expected as it is "whatever, man."

No. 2, though, GOT ME REAL INTERNET FIRED UP!!!11

Chris Petersen, Washington
Career record: 92-12
NFL draft picks the last five years: 14

Some people will continue to rail against Petersen for the conference he played in, but it doesn't matter where you coach, an 88 percent winning percentage in FBS college football is good. He is one of the best at identifying mismatches to exploit on offense, and has a great reputation for finding talent and developing it. He'll face a step up in competition at Washington, but make no mistake -- he's a talented coach who runs a top-notch program.

Oh, hell no.

First of all, an 88% winning percentage is a lot better than "good," but it was still racked up in the Mountain West. Pretty sure Urban Meyer conquering the SEC and winning two national titles, plus winning at places like Utah and Bowling Green should put him above Chris Petersen.

Washington fans wouldn't even take Petersen over Meyer. (Well, the ones that are honest, anyway.)

WHY PSU WILL BEAT OSU. Over at Black Shoe Diaries, they apparently run a "I'M AFRAID I HAVE BAD NEWS" series, where they breakdown why Penn State will beat certain teams from their upcoming schedule.

Yesterday, Ohio State came up on the chopping block.

To be fair to Dan Vecellio, he's not exactly dripping with unironic confidence:

Some tidbits: OSU has not lost a regular season game in two years. It is 24-0 in its last 24 regular season games. That's better than The Undertaker, for god's sake. It lit Penn State on fire, waited for it to burn down, and pissed on its ashes last year in a 63-14 rout. Its recruiting class is loaded. It returns a ton of talent, including Braxton Miller, who's nearly impossible to stop. THOSE ASSHOLES STOLE LARRY JOHNSON.

A six pack of Zima, however, can make any man feel good about his dance with Lady Fortune. Here are his top two reasons why Penn State is laying the lumber to our beloved Buckeyes this fall:

1. With a new head coach, especially one as creative as James Franklin, Penn State will bust out plays and formations and various things that nobody has ever seen before. I would be shocked if Franklin didn't already have some idea of what his gameplan is going to be when the Nittany Lions host the Buckeyes, and that we're not going to see any of the interesting things Franklin has hidden up his sleeve in the season's first six games.

2. Conversely, we're in year three of Urban Meyer in Columbus. We know everything that he's going to do by this point. There likely won't be any silly wrinkles or tricks that Penn State has never seen before, and with a bye week leading up to the game, Franklin will probably sleep in a filing cabinet in his office pouring over every ounce of game film that he can get his hands on dating back to Urbz's time as the defensive backs coach at St. Xavier High School in 1985.

I'm not worried about anybody this side of Nick Saban outworking Urban Meyer in pregame preparation. I also don't think Urban and OSU will need tricks or wrinkles to handle a depleted PSU roster.

GET DUMPED THEN, ANDY MURRAY. Former Buckeye tennis player and native of Ptuj, Slovenia, Blaz Rola, will face defending champ Andy Murray in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships at 8 AM on ESPN.

Although, I'm not sure if ol' Blaz is as confident in himself as I am in him. Here's a 100% real headline from Indepdent.ie:

Blaz Rola hoping not to "poop his pants" against Andy Murray

Unfortunately, I now have to rescind my support of Blaz Rola because there is no word in the English language I detest more than "poop."

CARLOS HYDE IS HIGH ON THE BUCKS. I like the way you think, Carlos:

"49ers RB Carlos Hyde" is a string of bitter-sweet words. >:'^(.

THIS IS NUTS. The last time I was truly befuddled by technology was a few years back when my friend showed me his Slingbox. This story, however, IS DOWNRIGHT WITCHCRAFT.

Ian Burkhart was a 19-year-old lacrosse player before suffering a "freak accident" while swimming on vacation. Since then, he's been paralyzed from the chest down.

From CBS News:

When he arrived last week at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, he had the highest hopes that a new medical experiment might change his fate, and the fate of others.

Burkhart had brain surgery two and a half months ago -- the first patient in an unprecedented medical trial involving surgeons from Ohio State and engineers from Battelle, a non-profit research center, who have created a technology called Neurobridge.

[...]

Nobody was sure if the signal from Burkhart's brain would be strong and clear enough to reach his hand and make it move. They only had to wait a tenth of a second for their answer.

While it looks like such a small thing -- extending your fingers or clasping a spoon -- no human in Burkhart's condition had ever done it the way he did.

*In my Kyle Rowland voice* Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

This story puts into perspective how much routine, everyday stuff I take for granted.
