Jarquez Carter is returning home and teaming up with the team that beat Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

On Monday, the rising sophomore defensive tackle committed to Miami from the transfer portal and will play his second year of college football with the Hurricanes.

A four-star prospect out of high school, Carter was the No. 198 prospect and No. 18 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2025. Ohio State won a battle against a bunch of schools from Florida, his home state, to land him out of high school. Carter got on the field in seven games for the Buckeyes as a freshman, recording one tackle across 51 defensive snaps.

The sting of Carter leaving for Miami, which defeated Ohio State 24-14 in the Cotton Bowl, is all but negated by a massive day in the transfer portal for the Buckeyes on Monday, especially on the defensive line. After landing a new starting safety in Terry Moore and depth pieces at tight end (Hunter Welcing) and quarterback (Justyn Martin), Ohio State added the No. 1 defensive tackle in the portal, James Smith, and another high-end talent rushing off the edge in Qua Russaw, both from Alabama.

Carter is one of three defensive tackles to transfer from the Buckeyes this offseason, joining redshirt sophomore Eric Mensah (Virginia Tech) and redshirt freshman Maxwell Roy (UCLA).
