One of Ohio State’s most legendary coaches will be its next Victory Bell ringer.

Ohio State announced Tuesday that Urban Meyer will serve as the pregame Victory Bell ringer for Saturday’s game against Penn State.

Meyer becomes the fifth Buckeye great to lead Ohio State’s newest gameday tradition at the Shoe. Two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin was Ohio State’s first-ever pregame Victory Bell ringer before the Texas game, while fellow former Ohio State coach John Cooper did the honors before the Grambling State. Ohio State basketball legends Clark Kellogg and Michael Redd were OSU’s Victory Bell ringers for its last two home games against Ohio (Kellogg) and Minnesota (Redd).

Meyer will be back at the Shoe on Saturday as part of FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, for which he is one of the analysts. It will be FOX’s second time broadcasting Big Noon Saturday from Ohio State this season along with the season opener vs. Texas.

It also comes as Meyer has been name-dropped as a speculative candidate for Penn State’s head coaching vacancy over the last couple of weeks. Meyer has said several times since his stint with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars that he has no plans to return to coaching, however, and ringing the bell at Ohio Stadium on Saturday shows his allegiance still lies with the scarlet and gray.

Meyer went 6-1 against Penn State in his seven years coaching the Buckeyes, suffering his only loss to the Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium in 2016. Ohio State has won eight straight games against Penn State since.
