These are strange times for Penn State football, at least as it has existed under the direction of James Franklin. Coming into the 2025 season, they'll be the probable favorites to win the Big Ten championship, which gives them pretty good odds to win the whole damn thing.
They replaced essentially their entire wide receiver room in the transfer portal, are returning almost everyone on defense (save for, uh, their best player), and have two excellent running backs that would start anywhere in the country. And Drew Allar is there too, I guess.
So what's funny to me and George is that the Nittany Lions played ball with ESPN and decided to lean into an offseason narrative that they just hired a catty diva for a defensive coordinator, who is being at least a little bit fast and loose with the details of his departure from Ohio State. It just seems like the kind of move of a program not accustomed to these kinds of expectations and the pressure that goes along with that, is what we're saying.
Plus! Michigan's a la carte self-punishment! Ross Bjork wants a better gameday experience, so, like... more drones, I guess! APR is up! And Lincoln Riley is a lover, not a fighter.
- Look, I'm not salty that the dude left. But Jim Knowles keeps acting like being offered the biggest contract in the history of coordinator contracts was a smack in the face, and it is very annoying.
- This June hearing coming up for Michigan is going to be fun as hell, in large part because no matter what happens, a very large contingent of college football fans will be furious (let's hope it isn't us).
- Ross, if you want to improve the gameday experience, start with taking care of attendee's basic bodily functions and then work your way up from there.
- Ask Us Anything, which you can do by sending us questions to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com, wants to know the people most influential in our lives. Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, while fictional, will always hold a place in my heart.
- APR is high! That's good, I think!
- Luke Fickell will flip ya!
