Ryan Day is a winner.

With Ohio State's 37-17 win over Maryland, Day became the seventh Ohio State head coach to reach 50 victories with the Buckeyes, following in the footsteps of John Wilce, Woody Hayes, Earle Bruce, John Cooper, Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer. Day is the second-fastest coach to reach the 50-win mark at Ohio State, as his 50-6 record made him a couple of victories slower than Meyer, who went 50-4 en route to the milestone.

After the Buckeyes defeated the Terrapins, FOX sideline reporter Jenny Taft asked Day what winning 50 games at Ohio State meant to him. The fifth-year program leader was quick to direct praise elsewhere, reflecting on the accomplishments of his coaching staff, players and the Ohio State fans who support the Buckeyes week in and week out.

"It means, you know, everybody here – it's the players, it's the coaches. This is a wonderful place, a great place to be," Day said. "One of my favorite things is getting a win at noon, going home and celebrating with the family, so we're gonna do that today."

Taft and Day also discussed Ohio State's offensive performance from start to finish versus Maryland. Day said he wasn't pleased with the unit's efforts in the first half but saw improvement in the second half.

“Just not very happy with how we played in the first half, especially on offense. So we’ll look at the reasons why. We certainly got ourselves off-schedule," Day said. "The way we played in the second half is how Buckeyes football is supposed to be played.”

On the other side of the ball, Day was impressed with how the defense performed.

“We know we can get even better. We’ll look at the film. We'll get better. But when we’re playing complimentary football like this, we have a chance to be as good as we want to be," Day said. "We’re not close to where we need to be, but it was good to play that way in the second half. A lot to grow upon, a lot to build on. I don’t know what it was. Coming off of the bye week. Whatever that was. But the guys played tough. I thought they played physical in the game, and it was a good win to get here, and now we’ve got to regroup and go beat Purdue.”
