J.T. Barrett set a school record for most rushing yards by a quarterback with 189 against Minnesota. It was all part of a 389-yard, four touchdown day against the Gophers in the cold.

If it seems like Barrett has turned this into his weekly pat-on-the-back, well, he basically has. This is Barrett's sixth freshman of the week award, which ties the 2010 record held by former Illinois QB Nathan Scheelhaase. With Indiana and Michigan remaining on Ohio State's docket... there's a good chance J.T. Barrett will end up breaking that record too

Other awards given:

  • Offensive Player of the Week: Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin (408 yards rushing/four touchdowns vs. Nebraska.)
  • Defensive Player of the Week:  Joe Schobert, Wisconsin. (11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, one pass breakup and one fumble recovered vs. Nebraska.)
  • Special Teams Player of the Week: Jack Mitchell, Northwestern. (4/4 against Notre Dame in field goal kicks, including the game-tying kick to send the game into overtime and the game-winning kick.)
