Back in the day, after group play, the eight group winners and eight runners-up were drawn into four new groups for pool play.  The four group winners went directly to the semi-finals.

  Do you like this or the existing format more, and why?

   The old format eliminates quite a few knockout matches with their attendant extra time, kicks from the penalty mark, etc.  at the same time, we would have seen more of Cabo Verde.  In a very real sense, each group play match in the second group play would feel much like a knockout match.  The second group play would be the same format as the first group play: match is over after ninety minutes; no extra time, ties are ties.
