It was a good weekend for three homegrown Ohio State commits.
With seven Ohio state championships taking place at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton Thursday night through Saturday night, there was plenty of in-state talent shown off throughout the three days.
Specifically, three Ohio State commits – Glenville linebacker Cincere Johnson and defensive tackle Jamir Perez (both 2026 signees) and Liberty Center offensive lineman Kellen Wymer (a 2027 commit) – helped their teams win state titles again.
Johnson, Perez lead record-setting defensive game
For the third time in four years, Glenville won the Division IV state championship, this time in a very dominant, record-breaking performance.
Tied 7-7 with Shelby in the second quarter, the Tarblooders proved to be unstoppable on both sides of the ball the rest of the game, securing a 45-7 win in the final.
Led by the two Ohio State commits, Glenville's defense held Shelby to just 27 yards on Friday, setting a new record for the fewest yards allowed in an OHSAA championship game, regardless of division.
The 27 yards allowed by Glenville set a new state championship game record. The old mark of 30 yards was set in 1980 by Tiffin Calvert vs. Newark Catholic. https://t.co/YVcR2fpiV6

WIth Perez clogging the middle of the defensive line and Johnson in the middle of the defense, the Tarblooders finished with five sacks as Glenville was in the backfield all morning.

Johnson, who was a Mr. Ohio finalist, knew Glenville could dominate defensively, and they did just that.
“We always said, take them to somewhere they’ve never been before,” Johnson told cleveland.com's Matt Goul after the game. “That’s a great team, but they haven’t faced a Glenville defense with the speed, size and somebody in the middle like myself.”
Wymer leads dominant performance in trenches
A two-way lineman for Liberty Center, Wymer was a key part of the trenches during the Tigers' dominant 35-3 win over Wheelersburg to secure the Division V state title.
Liberty Center led 7-0 after the first quarter and 21-3 at halftime, as the game was never really in doubt after the opening quarter.

Jaxton Lawniczak and Kellen Wymer combine for a BIG 3rd down sack forcing a punt on 4th and 11. Tiger offense takes over on their own 21 yard line.
