I think one adjustment that is a must to adapt to the current churn in CFB is to end the outdated premise of extending eligibility for an athlete (for the top 40 programs at least) with the exception of season long injuries.

Coaches need to be able to evaluate in real game time and of course have some allowance for growth and learning curve. They need to do this in order to better determine year 2 valuation.

I would have said maybe an exception for offensive linemen (typically the latest to develop), but even here you have 1 year people like McFadden leaving for the portal.

First off, it's no longer worth the investment and secondly if the are trying to renegotiate their NIL you'll have more game film time to consider.

Any player with a glimmer of promise will need more game reps. Of course do these in the 6-7 or so games where we have it well in hand. It also involves more practice reps, but I understand time is a finite resource, so leaving that to smarter folks to figure out the right balance.
