This NIl & portal business as it's currently run (as well as the playoffs and timing of the portal) is absolute insanity and will ruin the sport if not checked with some governing rules.
I am NOT against players earning money for their NIL or getting paid more than an the value of an education. In.a sense, football is an on-campus college job.
I'm against this wild-west yearly roster change insanity.
COLLEGE football should first and foremost be about COLLEGE degrees. To regulate this sport, start here. This is what makes this product/business unique. (Amateurism on the other hand, was always a joke). At the end of the day, universities are providing a future for these young men through education. Most won't play professional ball. Others will play briefly. Even those who play into their 30s will still have to have a career afterwards.
You should be able to transfer 2x. After 2 years on campus (where you've earned an Associate's Degree). And after you graduate (Bachelor's degree). If a player stays for a 5th year, they need to start GRAD SCHOOL.
This leads, effectively, to a two year contract for players coming out of high school, which should be binding. This contract will be re-negotiated after the first contract is complete. It could be re-negotiated a 3rd time IF we want to keep a player for their 5th year.
START HERE. And then work out the calendar accordingly. It is College Football, afterall.
