Ahead of the Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, it is interesting to look at how unbiased computer programs think about the teams this year. Computer algorithms have no agenda. They don't care if your name is Alabama or Ohio State. They tend to rank teams based on wins, losses, strength of schedule, and statistical categories. There is no single formula that is best and statistics do not tell the whole story. To minimize the influence of outlier algorithms, it is best to average All the available polls (including the major human ones as well) to get a consensus. Every year, Massey compiles an extensive list of polls to determine a ranking that represents a consensus. This year, I counted 67 polls in their composite average. Here are the current results:
1) Ohio State (37 first place rankings)
2) The Stalions (24)
3) FSU (2)
4) Texas
5) Washington
6) Oregon
7) Alabama
8) Georgia (4)
9) Penn St.
10) Oklahoma
