Anyone have any thoughts on why we didn't target Cade Stover at all yesterday?
(1) They wanted him to focus on improving his blocking yesterday or (2) he was just extremely well covered (seems unlikely that he was never open all game though) or (3) Day is trying to switch-up our tendencies to keep future opponents like scUM off balance (he has generally been or #2 option in critical situations so maybe they will use him differently for the next few games before the scUM game and then cut him loose again for scUM) (4) he has some sort of small injury (seems unlikely since he played a lot yesterday).
Also, what are people's thoughts about trying to get more playing time for Thurman or Royer as a 2nd tight end? Gee Scott is solid but I don't think he's ever going to be a big receiving threat and as we have seen with Stover it's an aspect of the offense we need. I'm concerned that if Stover gets hurt we really don't have an experienced TE who can really be a real receiving threat. Also, next year we will lose our top 3 pass catchers so it would be good to accelerate the development of Stover's replacement for next year.
One of the issues with us not blowing teams out this year is we aren't getting enough game day playing time for the young guys.
Mod Edit: Added to the title for clarity.
