It seems like every year there's some of these guys who it's really hard to understand how they are ranked so high...

Derek Green and Thomas Tyner ranked as the top backs in the nation the year Zeke was a senior...Urban, OSU and everyone in the nation besides scUM and the recruiting sites knew Green was over-rated but somehow the ratings didn't reflect it.

I guess projections are always subjective and it's very hard to project the development of 17-18 year old kids who are playing against vastly different competition.

Bret B should be their choice IMO.

I don't like the guy but he reportedly wants to go there and he has had some previous success in the B1G.

Great start for Coach Day with that first class.

Ultimately we will need to get some blue chip talent out of the southeast.  Having Coombs back will certainly add to our recruiting strength.  I wonder where his regional focus will be?  I assume they carried that over from the Meyer days where a coach has both national position responsibility plus a specific geographic area to support for all recruits?

Cali / West coast is definitely a hotbed of opportunity the past couple of years due to the weak PAC and weak USC/UCLA.

Fast times at Ridgemont high.

After that I thought our family needed to move to Cali.  Phoebe Cates, are you kidding me?..  I didn't see that level of talent anywhere in N.E. Ohio.

Alright, Hamilton!!

..never said, EVERY scUM fan.  However, there are lot's of them with the mentality that every school that is better then them at football is because they have no academic standards and / or they are cheating.  If you act like you haven't seen numerous threads and lots of posters on S&M and MGo making those claims we all know you are lying.

Plus there were only 2 schools who had fans during the segment I caught complaining that they had superior academic standards for their athletes and one of them was a fan of your program of choice.  The hosts (McElroy and Luganville) both shot them down instantly saying if a top player applies to scUM all they need is to meet the NCAA minimum standards.

No one should ever argue that scUM isn't a fine academic institution it's just that the player's entrance standards are no higher than ours or any other P5 program.

This was the hosts at ESPNU's First Take's list of "smart kids" schools not my list.

They said, the schools they listed all had higher admissions standards for their players than the standard NCAA minimum's.  They even used Cal as an example of an excellent and very difficult academic institution but they were eliminated from being a "smart kid" school since their players only have to clear the standard NCAA minimums to get accepted.

They said the military academies didn't qualify since they aren't P5 but they said they had unbelievably high standards in academics, service and athletics.

Sorry, I didn't think that part through.  Between that and my typo's in the original post it shows why I didn't attend one of the smart kid schools!

That said, I rather enjoy pissing-off the scUM fans.  It's all in god fun and they seem to easily fall victim to it.

Once again, it's just us and a bunch of south/southeastern teams in the top group.

I think the only 2 northern teams to have won a college championship playoff game are us and Oregon.

We have really bucked the trend in recent years.

Hope Martinez knows that Coach Coombs is in the business of planting flags, getting signatures on dotted-lines, kicking assses and sending D-backs to the NFL.

Notre Dame and Northwestern aren't even in the same universe as Coach and the sooner Martinez figures it out the better it is for everyone.

I don't think it said in the article when the longevity bonus was put into his deal but it was probably put in there 4 or 5 years ago as a pay-to-stay incentive and they had some good teams back then.

If you show his average comp over the past 5 years including that 1 time bonus I think he still looks like a decent deal vs many other P5 coaches -- Bret B down in Arky, Muschamp at USCe, Jimmy at scUM,  Jerremy Pruit at Tenn, Helton at USCw, etc..

Yes, he's taken some questionable characters onto his teams but recruiting E.Lansing isn't easy so he's going to have to take some risks vs blue-chip programs like us, Bama, Texas, USCw, etc who can be more selective.

That's a lot of coin and the team seems to be on the decline in the recent couple of years but Dantonio has won 67% of his games there which is very tough to do at Michigan State.

When Saban was there he only won 58.5% of his games

I think it would be very tough to find another coach who's going to go up there, stay for a long time like Dantonio has, win a the rate he has and win some B1G titles like he has.

There have been less than 10 universities that have qualified and played in the new college playoff and under Dantonio MSU is one of those schools.

I think those MSU fans have probably gotten their money's worth out of Dantonio.  He's been a much better bargain then Jimmy up at scUM.

How does the saying go?   “The NCAA is going to be so mad about this that they’re going to give Rutgers the death penalty”?

Comment 14 Jan 2020

Let's not jump the gun and presume guilt until all the facts come out.  We should all know better.

If this fuked up stuff was really going on there will be plenty of time and justification to rip their program later.

I haven't seen the kid play but he sounds like a wrecking ball.

If someone would have seen Jerome Bettis' height/weight and 40 time I guess they would have written him off but look at what he did.

I don't know if the 19 y.o. "Bus" is a good comp for 19 y.o. Miyan but it sounds like they have a similar running style and build.

I (Clark Griswald) came in tied for 51st....

You might not have heard about it (/s) but I got totally jobbed in this one game -- OSU v Klempsun where the refs were crooked and cost me about 25 points (50 point swing).  If you didn't see it you should watch that game and then write a letter to your congressman.

Then f'ing Indiana had to lose by a point costing me 35 points (70 point swing).

To all of you in the #1 to 50 slots, good job!!  I'm coming for you next year though!

I think Herbie handles this the way my dad did when he was the coach of my baseball teams when I was a kid.  He was always the hardest on me and he told me as long as he was coaching the team that's the way it was going to be.  The bias if there was any was always going to go the other way.

I think that is Herbie's approach.  He should just come out and say it that his intention is to be objective and if there is any bias in his calls and commentary he is going to err on the side of the other team to avoid looking like a homer.

Where are the top HS RB's in the nation located?  Day should give Coombs area responsibility for those locations and let that crazy sombitch go plant his OSU flags in all those places.

Even though he was the DB coach I am pretty sure Coombs had area responsibility for Detroit and went up there and pulled Weber out of the scUM Cass Tech pipeline.

Coombs can recruit anyone anywhere.   Really hope he's back.

that ball movement was blatantly intentional...let's run up move the ball forward a half yard so we already have the 1st down when we snap it.  No way that was unintentional.
