As I peruse the forum, trying to find some closure tonight, I'm seeing lots of vitriol as well as many level-headed comments. Seems that things snowball for each posting...one or two pissed off posters begat many others. And the same for "positive" posts.
I want to say before I (try to) go to sleep, I am very proud of our team, and proud that these young men are representing the university that means so much to me and my family. It is an honor for me to possess a silly little piece of paper that forever connects me to that school and in some small way to those fellas.
I've not seen many games like this with such intensity, such emotion. So many players (on both teams) getting hurt but getting back in the game. None of us can question the heart of anyone on that field tonight.
We had our chances, and we probably were the better team tonight. So many valid "excuses" and it was an absolute gut-punch ending where two great players just weren't on the same page that made it feel surreal that it was all over.
With all of that said, I hope that tomorrow many of you will regret the negative things you've said about the young men that put on that beautiful uniform. I know in the heat of the moment emotions can skyrocket (I'm a redheaded Irishman so I'm no angel in this regard haha). Tomorrow I hope we can all gain the perspective that might not be present at the moment.
I'm not going to say "remember, it's just a game" because I am absolutely one of those that was born and raised a Buckeye, and I am fully aware that I become an irrational human being for 3 hrs every fall Saturday. I understand as well as anyone that this is more than JUST a game for us.
I chose the title of this post because, according to legend, Carmen Ohio was written on the heels of a devastating loss to TUN way back when. Tonight hurts...A LOT (which is why I'm still up at 1:15 writing this lengthy post). But I am still DAMN PROUD to be a Buckeye, and I've got nothing but appreciation for all the players, coaches, etc who worked so hard to make this season a success.
It's unfortunate that years from now this season won't be as fondly remembered in my mind as 2002 or 2014, but them's the breaks. It was still one helluva fun ride.
Go Bucks.
