I was watching a short while ago the last half of the 4th quarter of the 2005 edition of The Game. That comeback never gets old!
And, as I was watching, it was impossible not to notice the terrific contributions to that comeback by Santanio Holmes, Ted Ginn Jr., and Anthony Gonzalez. They were all great.
So...with each of these guys ultimately becoming 1st-round picks, and considering the totality of how they performed in the NFL, how does this trio compare against others in the history of college football? (Gonzalez’ career was cut short by injuries by I think he achieved at least a reasonable level of success before that happened.)
Is it possible that Ohio State’s comeback in 2005 was spearheaded by the greatest receiving corps in college football history? I would venture to say that, a couple of years before David Tyree’s legendary Super Bowl reception, Anthony Gonzalez had a pretty amazing catch himself in the late moments of a game-winning drive of a huge game.
In bringing up this topic, I am in no way intending to minimize what Troy Smith did in that 4th-quarter comeback.
